Rod Strickland Will Not Be Going To DePaul

Earlier this month is seemed a done deal that Rod Strickland would be heading back to his alma mater to be a head coach. Well now according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports that is no longer the case:

No reason has been given yet why Rod will not be joining the Blue Demon staff. I’m sure the Big Blue Nation will be glad to welcome The Point God back as the Director of Basketball Operations.

Got to wonder why this keeps happening to Rod. I know some troll will come on here and say, “hurrrr, DUIs,” but there has to be more to it than that.

Thought this was a slam dunk being his alma mater. Better luck next time big guy.

Interesting. I’m very happy for us that we got Rod Strickland back, but at the same time, I do wish the best for him and want nothing more than for him to further his career as an Assistant Coach. I’m kind of torn by the news in a way.

Maybe he realized it was just a lateral move and Chicago

Glad Rod isn’t leaving us. I say he just wants to be part of something historical.

Glad he’s back on board for what could be an epic season. KSR, you say he’s not moving, but you don’t say he’s staying, either. Please reassure BBN he is still on staff.

Yeah!!! So happy to hear he’s staying. Maybe his family had something to do with it #7. It was NEVER a “done deal”.

There are a lot of reasons why these deals fall through, salary negotiation, retention offers, changes of heart. He has a pretty good position so if the conditions of new job and the offerings didn’t please him he can easily say no…which in all likelihood he did.

He is not the director of basketball operations at UK. His title is “Special Assistant to the Head Coach”.

If you where headcoach at Depaul….would you want Rod Strickland waiting for your job on the bench….no!

Hey #7, he’s applying for a coaching position, not a spot on a road crew…cast your aspersions elsewhere.

I don’t anywhere that it says he will be coming back to UK. Anyone have anything definite on that?

#17 – It took you 17 comments to prove #1 right. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

YOO! Be glad he’s not going. I believe he helps develop our Point Guards. Come on give a break! If Cal wants him there; what’s your problem? Throw a rock: Christian!
