When you think of the Houston Rockets of the past few years, you tend to think of a couple things. As far as success goes, you most likely consider them a solid team that tends to under perform (often due to injuries,) in the playoffs. As far as personal connections go, you think of two of the most beloved recent Wildcats in Chuck Hayes and recent addition Patrick Patterson. As far as star power is concerned, you would likely think of Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming. Only now Tracy McGrady is gone, while Yao Ming is recovering from a seemingly permanently injured foot.
Bad news for Houston though, as Yao Ming let it slip to the media that if he can’t shake the injury this year, Ming will consider walking (or hobbling) away from the sport all together. This would leave the Rockets depleted, as their biggest stars would be Shane Battier and Trevor Ariza. But, purely from a selfish point of view, this would open up the front court for the two Wildcats to make Houston their team. They would certainly have the work ethic to replace Ming, but the Rockets would be left without much else.
What do you think? Could the Patterson/Hayes duo be the building blocks for a new Rockets run if Ming has to step away?
