RIP Lorenzo Charles

Very sad news out of Raleigh tonight as one of the most remembered college basketball players of all-time, Lorenzo Charles from NC State, was killed in a bus accident today.  Charles will forever be linked with Jim Valvano and the greatest Cinderella tournament story, the 1983 NCAA champions.  And Charles’ play is one that will forever be played in March.

That was the first NCAA championship game I remember watching. RIP Lorenzo Charles. Hard to believe the two most memorable people from that game, Charles and Jimmy V, are no longer with us.

Off subject but games STILL available from this years tournament.

The vid was edited. Jimmy V ran around for some one to hug after the final shot.

The famous win against Houston is also memorable because of personable coach Jim Valvano’s emotional burst onto the court afterward, running around almost in disbelief at his team’s improbable run to the championship.

Charles finished his college career two years later with 1,535 total points — 15th on the school’s scoring list — and his .575 shooting percentage in 1985 remains a school record for seniors. He played one season in the NBA, averaging 3.4 points in 36 games with the Atlanta Hawks in 1985-86, and played internationally and in the Continental Basketball Association until 1999.

Defined “One shining moment” with that shot. RIP both of you.

I hope my post above at 5 was NOT considered Neg. I would think that Charles has many “Shining moments” besides that moment that NO One ever saw.
