Coach took to the mic today, as he does every Monday, and talked a little with the media about last week’s game and this week’s showdown with the Gamecocks. Here are a few short notes:
– The Kentucky-Auburn game will be at 7:30 and will air on ESPNU
– Obviously, there were some concerns over the quarterback position. He said he thought the offense showed balance although Hartline wasn’t at his best. Brooks said that there has been no discussion of a change at quarterback and when asked point blank about Morgan Newton playing, he was very non-chalant in saying that he “wouldn’t rule it out, but it’s unlikely”.
– South Carolina will bring the best pass rush that the Cats have seen all year. In order to combat the pass rush, Brooks said the Cats must run the ball well and also avoid being in third and long situations. If UK gets into these situations, then South Carolina will be able to use multiple looks.
– The situation at cornerback is not looking good: Trevard Lindley is “very doubtful” and Brooks is “not optimistic” about Paul Warford’s chances to play. Coach talked about what a loss it was to not have Lindley and said that “the other guys who will get time are good”, but none of them have the ball speed that Lindley does and that could hurt them.
