We all knew that Randall Cobb was the greatest. It was never in dispute in the beautiful Commonwealth of Kentucky. But the rest of the world needed some time to understand. This season has been that time. Not only has the NFL seen this year that Cobb is a master at returning kicks, catching passes and scoring touchdowns, but they now know that he is also a master of knowing the NFL rulebook. In the play above, a kickoff landed at the four yard line and went dead. Cobb, realizing an obscure rule that few know, put one foot out of bounds and then recovered the kick while standing partially out of bounds. By rule, that is the same as a kickoff landing out of bounds, meaning the receiving team gets the ball at the 40 yard line. By understanding this rule, Cobb probably netted between 20-25 yards for his Packers.
Great football player, eyes of green and now a football IQ off the charts. Sometimes life is not fair.
