Randall Cobb Showcases Another Way in Which He is Awesome

We all knew that Randall Cobb was the greatest. It was never in dispute in the beautiful Commonwealth of Kentucky. But the rest of the world needed some time to understand. This season has been that time. Not only has the NFL seen this year that Cobb is a master at returning kicks, catching passes and scoring touchdowns, but they now know that he is also a master of knowing the NFL rulebook. In the play above, a kickoff landed at the four yard line and went dead. Cobb, realizing an obscure rule that few know, put one foot out of bounds and then recovered the kick while standing partially out of bounds. By rule, that is the same as a kickoff landing out of bounds, meaning the receiving team gets the ball at the 40 yard line. By understanding this rule, Cobb probably netted between 20-25 yards for his Packers.

Great football player, eyes of green and now a football IQ off the charts. Sometimes life is not fair.

Saw a pay link on twitter about a big time db from Florida who is taking a look at the Cats now. 4* guy with offers from all the big names. Not sure if we can sway many of these guys this year with the late start but the interest this staff is sparking is really encouraging. Let’s go!

Hey matt, why did you claim sources told you that hood has mono? You
stole that from cutler. Also, you don’t need to say, “sources say.” We
all know that mike pratt is your basketball info and mitch is your
    football sunshine pumper.

Most people who know football well know this rule. It is not an obscure rule at all; rather, it is simply underutilized. As a former players and avid football fan, I see this same play 3-4 times per year; however, I watch 15-20 players screw up their opportunity to use this rule each season. If there is a kick returner in the league that does not know this rule, his ST coach should be fired.

#9 Quick question for you. Do Mike Pratt and Mitch Barnhart regularly relay the information Matt posts on here to you? Oh they don’t? Imagine my surprise.

Another quick question, do you enjoy having more information on UK athletics than you would normally get from ESPN and local media outlets? Oh, you do? Imagine my surprise again.

i quit football after the 8th grade, so i don’t understand the finer points of the game. i don’t get why packers got to advance to the 40 instead of taking the ball where it went out of bounds where RC touched it? serious answer please? thanks.

  25. Rixter

    # 17 the rule is, if the kickoff goes out of bounds, the ball is spotted on the 40. Since Cobb was standing out of bounds when he touched it, he was part of the sideline…he was out of bounds. Now, if he had touched the ball inbounds and stepped out, GB would have the ball where he went out

I wouldn’t say that is an obscure rule at all, but it is still awesome that Cobb had the presence of mind to take advantage. Truly a great “football player” and not like Tim Tebow is a great “football player”. Cobb actually has talent.

Never ceases to amaze…a positive post about a UK great having success, and some d’bag (#9) insists on attempting to turn it into something contentious. Congratulations, “legendary,” your name is truly appropriate, if it’s meant to describe the douchebag skill level you’ve achieved.

  31. BleedingBlue79

30 – It’s a comment section, that’s what people do…they comment. So some troll thinks he’s a genius because he gets people to comment, in a comment section? I guess some people just need that kind of personal validation, that’s cool, whatever floats your boat. Funny part is that #9, #28, & #30 are probably all the same douchebag…the miserable & bitter type who comes to a site just to talk sh** about it. So as long as we’re talking about people getting trolled, if you’re coming to this site just to talk sh** about it, but yet you still keep coming back, it’s pretty obvious that Matt Jones is quite successfully trolling the holy hell out of you, and without even doing a thing. So actually, you’re really just trolling yourself. But hey, if that’s your thing, more power to you.

And to think, 63 players were drafted before my boy Cobb! I still have no idea how the NFL scouts missed that. I’m a cowboys fan by birth and all I can do is shake my head while watching the GB highlights. Randall “MotherF’ing” Cobb… Only way he could be more perfect is if he was born in Kentucky… Guess that’s his only fault! Go Blue and Green Bay
