Look at him. He loves press conferences.
Nothing too awesome or ground-breaking, but Billy Gillispie talked into microphones, and here’s pretty much what he said.
–Liggins and Galloway: Meh. He expects them to play, as he’s never signed a player who then became ineligible, but had no new insight to share. Awesome! The saga continues! Wu-Tang! Wu-Tang! (I threw that last part in on my own. Sorry.) Although no real news, it is nice to know that he expects them to be on the flo’.
–He may soon have a contract, so the national media can finally, and respectfully, shut the hell up about it. Gillispie doesn’t see it as a big deal, and the three (Gillispie, Todd, and Barnhart) have met and no one sees future issues. He didn’t go into much, but said that the changes would be “stuff that’s probably real technical stuff to attorneys, and probably not nearly as technical to Dr. Todd, Mitch and myself.” So take that, Jones.
-As he said yesterday, Meeks is doing well and Patterson is ahead of schedule. He may be doing basketball stuff in 3 or 4 weeks. Also added that Patterson should try and make himself the top overall draft pick. (I tried that when I was younger…didn’t take.) Not to say he wants Patterson out after next year, but just to be the best player—ever. I’m with that.
-The schedule is about done, but there are still some dates that have yet to be determined.
–Expects the squad to be longer and more athletic than a year ago, but may have to do things sans point guard. That could be interesting. Obviously this could change if everyone is eligible, but he recognized the option of entering the offense unconventionally. If you want my guess, it’s that we will inbound the ball like a corner kick and hope someone (Stevenson) can head the ball in.
-Coury still looking for a scholarship elsewhere.
–Misses Keightley every day. Looking for a way to honor him this season, but didn’t speak much towards that since nothing is set in stone.
