Poythress had a 4.0 GPA; Cauley-Stein not a fan of school, at first

“Hey, man, school’s really not all that bad.”

Like every other college student in the United States of America, Willie Cauley-Stein wasn’t a big fan of the college aspect of college when he arrived on campus. It just wasn’t his thing.

“I hate school,” he told Coach Cal last fall.

Cal, though very appreciative of his honesty, knew he needed to step in and get further involved in Willie’s education. It wasn’t long after their little chat that Willie found himself in Coach Cal’s “book club”, which you may remember him talking about following the first exhibition game last November. He said he gave Willie a book every two weeks and the two of them would sit down and discuss what he read.

“You’re going to learn to love reading because you are going to read,” Calipari told him.

The mandatory reading trick worked because, today, Coach Cal bragged about how Willie’s mindset toward classwork changed from beginning to end. He said Willie was enjoying school by the end of the year. “I’m kind of loving it this; I’m good now,” he told him.

Alex Poythress, on the other hand, had his nose in the books from the start. Kentucky fans got a small glimpse of that on the ESPN All-Access special when the cameras caught Alex celebrating a high test score.

It turns out that wasn’t Alex’s only high test score, because Coach Cal let it slip in today’s press conference that Poythress finished his freshman year with a 4.0 GPA.

What do the haters have to say about that???

No they don’t go to class after the first semester! UK is paying players, giving false grades, ruining college basketball!

Seriously opposing fans get some new material. It’s really getting old.

Congrats to Poythress, that is a great accomplishment. This will undoubtedly go unmentioned by the press and Cal will continue to be profiled as a scumbag.

Congrats to Alex and the entire team, but I would rather Alex earn a 3.0 in class and a 4.0 on the court. Somebody needs to get this kid off the books and teach him to be a hell raiser!

We all know none of Louisville’s championship team ever attended a class. See? I can make up rumors about rival school’s players as well.

Keep the good work up Alex you can’t do any better than a 4.0. This is a great reflection on the student athlete and were lucky to have a player of his caliber at UK. I also like the way Cal is trying to help Willie. It’s all just a great story.

Poythress should have spent less time studying last year and more time practicing basketball.

To those people saying Poythress should study less, need to get a grip on life. Poythress is a smart kid that has a knack for the classroom. Poythress’ problem is not actually practice as much as it is his mental block and assertiveness.

He just needs to go out and be aggressive!

Let’s all be proud of Alex. Way to make us proud. Remember when basketball is over for these kids, and it will be at some point, they need to have a good head on their shoulders.

Poy’s grades are what he has always earned. One of his former teachers now teaches in my district and told me Alex and his sister were straight A kids who took multiple advanced and AP classes. And this teacher is a UT fan who hates UK.

Not at all surprised to hear about Alex. My best friend of 20 years works with a guy that is part of the support staff and is in the locker room with the guys. He told me that he was talking to the guy and his opinion as to why Alex wasn’t the beast on the floor sometimes was that he was a really smart guy that was just as happy in study hall as he was playing basketball.

#2 – Feesh – Eric Bledsoe is better than you.

He is healthier than you. He is faster than you. He is stronger than you.
Eric Bledsoe is more famous than you.
He has a nicer car than you. He has a bigger house than you.
Eric Bledsoe has an indoor basketball court. You will never have one of those.
He will travel more than you. He will meet more famous people than you ever will.
Eric Bledsoe gets paid millions to do what he loves. You don’t. You never will.

Thousands of people cheer for Eric Bledsoe. No one ever cheers for you. Not even your family.

Eric Bledsoe will never hide behind anonymity on a random Internet message blog and post anything about you. He’s never even heard of you. He’s a better person for it.

In fact, I would wager that pound for pound Eric is a smarter and more rounded person than you will ever be.

But you just go right ahead and pat yourself on the back there, Mr. Random anonymous Internet smart guy – we are all real impressed. Well, all of us except Eric.

15 – not quite true but he certainly kills it. The big difference is that the money I make goes to my children’s private education, home ownership, retirement savings and investments, etc. Bledsoes goes to gold chains, maybachs, 4 baby mamas, and makin it rain at da club. Just like the rest of the NBA youth that was profiled on “Broke”, he’ll be destitute at 35. But hey, he’ll always have that top notch Alabama High School edumacshun to fall back on. Oh, and his 12 credits from UK.

27- sounds like a pretty uninformed generalization to me. Sure, lots of young athletes do those things, but unless you’re his CPA and know for sure that Bledsoe spends his money on that stuff (and it’s fine if he does – it’s his money), then zip it.

Dear Mr. Feesh, your comments stereotype and border on racism. You base EB’s future on the very little you know about him. So, let me do the same with you…First I am sure your kids love you. You send them to private schools. Get them what they want. All the while when they say Daddy look at me, you are too busy checking your email or stocks. They are learning the phone and iPad are what is important and are gonna be rich spoiled kids and entitled just like poppa. You will lose them by the time they are teenagers. You will be the bank. That’s it. As for your wife, well, you already lost her. She tried to give you subtle hints but you didn’t pay attention. However, her trainer, some guy at work, or the gardener has. They make her feel wanted. Your marriage is suffering and you can tell it deep down. She is angry and now no matter what you do she is distant. S3x is just a chore for her and maintenance just to keep you off her trail…when you get it at all. Meanwhile she is letting her side guy do things you only dream of. It’s only a matter of time before even your money gets old. So, continue being pathetic and taking out the anger from your miserable life on this successful young man who’s story hasn’t been written. I mean I am just making assumptions based on what little I know, but then again, so are you.
