Potentially devastating news for blogosphere dorks

Blogosphere dorks? That’s me!

Will Leitch, editor of the best and most comprehensive sports blog on the Internet, has announced that he will be quitting Deadspin, effective June 27th. How does this affect you? It doesn’t. Well, not directly. Well, not indirectly, either. OK, it probably doesn’t affect you at all.

Anyway, I’m not really sure what an editor of a blog does, but I’m fairly certain that Leitch was pretty damn good at it. Furthermore, the posts that he wrote were always well-written, insightful, witty, and intriguing. He has said that he will continue contributing, but that weakens the relevance of this post, so I’m not going to get into that.

Leitch entered the mainstream after his tiff on HBO’s Costas Now with Buzz Bissinger, when, essentially, he sat in silence and allowed Bissinger to flail about like a crazy person and drive himself into the ground. Leitch became a leading voice for blogs, and his message remains clear: blogs are relevant. Maybe not completely credible, but they have a unique place.

I assume that Deadspin will remain the edgy, post-heavy blog that it has always been, but without Leitch a dip in quality is to be expected.

*sad face emoticon*
