I do enjoy soccer. I will be taking my sons to see at least one UK Soccer game this year. Watching the replay of the USA shocking Spain in the Confederations Cup — the Preseason NIT of the World Cup — was quite exciting and enjoyable for me. (Doubt we’ll have much chance against Brazil, though.) I will gladly sit down and watch MLS games, knowing that they lack the talent found often in La Liga or even in the Premier League.
However when Rivers Cuomo writes and performs a song about USA Soccer, you can’t help but be completely embarrassed.
Look, if Sam’s Army can’t figure out that chanting “Stars and Stripes Forever!” at international matches is more effective and more potent than “America, F–k yeah!”, then you’re going to have terrible things (like Rivers Cuomo making a song) happen.
