Mourn with the post-game show

telephone

Kentucky fell at the buzzer 73-72 on a Christian Watford three. The Cats had every opportunity to seal it late, but missed decisive free throws to keep IU in the game.

The post-game show begins in five minutes on WHAS 840 (Louisville) and 630 WLAP (Lexington). Listen here if you’re sitting at your computer.

Don’t forget to sound off on the loss, call (502) 571-8484. Tell us how bad Terrence Jones was, how incredible Indiana shot, or how streaky Marquis Teague can be.

Calipari said in the post-game press conference he told everyone in the timeout huddle to foul as soon as the ball crossed half court. It appears that message didn’t come across clearly.

HORRBILE…perhaps now everyone will see TJ for the kind of player he is; he disrupts the flow of offense…his defense and hustle are pathetic….; about the only thing he does with efficiency is stick his chest out. If he’d look to play hard and team ball as much as he does another chest to bump, perhaps he could redeem himself (at least in my eyes). Next week!

Why does everyone hide behind an alias? officiating may get in the way of a big win, but in the end it comes down to the players. FREE throws are called FREE throws for a reason. They are non-contested shots for the offense. Free throws are Coach Cal’s teams achilles heel.

GREAT game for UK, not joking. Got down ON THE ROAD, made a great run, took the lead and had a chance to win a game we had NO BUSINESS winning.

Anthony Davis – learned he CAN’T get stupid fouls slapping at the balls or lunging at guys shooting threes.
TJ – learned he HAS to rebound
    Gilchrist – Man child
Lamb – Knows he HAS to hit FT’s
Miller – Has to bring it off the bench sooner

TEAM – Learned they have to STOP CHARGING, REBOUND, GUARD THE THREE !!

We will fix ALL of these.

I am more disappointed that Jones did not even cheer when we made our run to get in it and take the lead. The entire bench was clapping and jumping up but Mr. Pout just sat there. If you don’t want to play at least cheer for the guys that are giving effort. Cal needs to do something about this as I am sure his teammates took notice. A word to Jones..this is a special team capable of having a special season, if you don’t want to be a part of it leave now. I hate to say it but we needed the L in this one. We played the first half like a deer in head lights. Cal will make a huge positive out of this and we will be a better team. As for TJ, one bad game does not kill him. He did not show up, period. Now, sad to say for him, he has a whole week of practice to deal with it. The jorts bike is going to go into melt down. Cal will spin it in the media saying TJ will be better but he will be killing him in practice. He may set a career high in everything on saturday. Really impressed with MKG, Lamb, Miller, and Teague at the end. They kept us from a 20 pt blowout. Dont forget about Davis. There is more to defending the post than blocking shots. Like keeping your man from catching it under the basket. Hard not to foul there. Zeller won that battle. This was needed. Let IU have their moment, rushing the floor like they just won a national title. That act alone by the fan base tells us how far the program is behind UK.

Today game is just the classic example why we WON’T win the National Championship, when push comes to shove, our kids won’t step up & Cal will just like always in crunch time will make the wrong decisions. I honestly have no idea why they aren’t running pick & roll’s.

They don’t need to run drills for shooting free throws; every kid on that team should have to shoot 1000 free throws a week, shooting free throws should be automatic.

Then they need to learn how to guard the 3.

As bad as our offense looks & our 3 point shooting defense is along with missing free throws; what exactly are they doing in practice?

What the players and Cal need to do now:
    1. Work on free throws!!!! (how long have we been saying this? You don’t get 2nd chances I March, fix it now while it’s still early.)
    2. Better decision making. (They’re freshman, but they gotta make better decisions in late game situations. For example, not passing the ball to Davis when your expecting a foul)
    3. Perimeter Defense. (there are nights when your opponent is going to absolutely light you up, but with a good, strong perimeter defensive strategy and good execution, this can be countered)
    4. Don’t let others(fans) rattle you. First road game, it’s excusable, but when sec play starts, they gotta be ready, plus when march madness rolls around, they have to be prepared for very hostile crowds. There were a total of 100 uk fans there , not much support, but that’s IU’s fault.
    5. Shot selection and perimeter shooting needs to be worked on a little.
    6. Solve whatever the heck is wrong with Terrence Jones. There’s something bad wrong there.
    7. Bounce Back!! The players have to come back with fire in there eyes and a chip on there shoulder, and they need to play like they have something to prove to the world for the rest of the season. Knowing Cal’s record, all I have to say is, look out Chatanooga!

If we can address these issues, we will be a much better team and one that opponents will fear. The pieces are there, we just need to put them together and we will have a well rounded, cohesive ball team. Go Cats!

First off those ppl talkin trash to Matt Jones needs to stop all he did in this build up to the game was show his pasion for uk basketball. If TJ would have showed half that passion tonight we win by 10. Coach C. needs to reevaluate his current starters and make some changes Teague needs to hit the bench till he can figure out how not to turn the ball over, take 3 of his turnovers away and give us 3 two point baskets and we go into half up 5 instead of down 1. Changes the whole second half gameplan. Also Put your (loan) senior in there for leadership. He cant get into the flow of the game with his limited minutes. Miller needs to be in there 25-30 min every game.

Countless balls came off the rim on his side and he was out hustled for the rebound. He had one rebound and six turnovers. Missing shots is one thing, but just being out hustled and having a bad attitude is another. He’s supposed to be our all american leader, yes he’s to blame.

The problem with being a very talented player is that they tend slack on effort. And because we have a roster full of these players, this will not be the last disappointing loss. Also, it is well documented that Cal has some issues as a in-game coach and this will only make that arguement stronger. Why wait until they get to half court to foul?????

Come on fellas. We lost, it happens. Title level teams have bad games. IU, a 7 seed in the dance this year,, got hot from three… A handful of which came off offensive rebounds passed back out and our defense was out of position…If we improve on defending the three, find another perimeter scorer or two, and learn to make crunch time fts… Then we can win it all… Think big picture, not one game… And all you guys who say there is no such thing as a good loss, then I wonder if you forget about MissSt in the SEC in 1996 or Ole Miss at home in 1998! Players learn from losses, not as much from close wins… Sometimes winning games like these make players think we will always pull it out without doing little things! Last years teams suffered numerous close losses and grew to be a final 4 team…

Guys, we have no idea what was wrong with Jones, he may have sustained a bad injury or something outside of the game may’ve happened so don’t go ripping him up about heart. He wants to win just as bad as anyone else. Some players don’t respond to negativity well.

UK was overrated! Indiana is much better. No wonder you all don’t want our rivalry to continue. We have better fans, more tradition and more pride than UK. We are clearly the better team! We are unranked and beat your tails! Just wait til you all start conference play. You all will lose ten games and won’t see the sweet sixteen!

Hunt went on to break his hand in a bar fight, a crime that got him kicked off the team until two Memphis players left for the NBA and Calipari brought him back on the team out of desperation.

A lot of people posting here demonstrating why “fan” stems from fanatic. This team is young and few teams would not have simply folded up their tent and been blown off the floor in that extraordinary atmosphere. They showed incredible “fight” (not the Xavier/Cincy kind) by clawing back from ten points down—twice. Combine that with the fact it was their first true road game and there is much to be pleased with. Am I disappointed that we lost to IU, yes, and even more so that their vulgar, juvenile fans will now gloat. So be it. Let’s compare notes at the end of the season and see where each program is. Whatever Terrence Jones’ problem was today, hopefully he’ll learn from it and grow up. Coach Cal will use this loss as a powerful teaching tool and it will pay dividends come SEC and tournament time. There was no way we were going undefeated but that doesn’t make it much easier to get past. It’s still disappointing but losing always is. UK has played in two incredibly exciting games in the past 7 days that the nation is talking about. We’re back on top. Enjoy that. Need I remind people how it was with “Ten Loss Tubby” or worse Billy Clyde? Whining and moaning about a 1-point loss, all things considered, is borderline ridiculous. Support the team. We have nothing to hang our heads about. We are UK.
