Pitino accidentally snubs Unforgettables, Sure to Make UK fans Insane

Courtesy of the Courier-Journal

You will want to fast-forward to the 6:40 mark of this video, when Rick Pitino describes his current UL team as being 1 of the 2 teams that most played for the name on the front of the jersey more than the back.  The other has to be the 1992 Unforgettables, right?  Nope.  1987 Providence, his first Final Four team.

Now, this is a complete NON-ISSUE to me, but I know some of you will love to hate on Pitino and this will just add fuel to the fire.  It was obviously just an oversight, and I am sure that 1992 team would be at least 3rd on his list.  And everybody is clearly in a grouchy mood, so lets just keep it going.

It’s Pitino. What do you expect? That Providence team, the 92 team, even the 96 team with all the guys that went to the nba outside of Antoine Walker seemed to play all for the front of the jersey.

Unforgettables…oh you mean that team of basically in-state kids that finally got a chance when all the 5 stars left? ricky couldnt have put a team on the floor that first year without Hansen, farmer, Pelphry, feldhaus and woods staying with the team. Then he quit recruiting in-state kids.

There’s a university that’s winning games against TOP 20 teams with a not one NBA player. They’re ranked higher than UK. No High School Superstars. They’re led by a SENIOR Winchester, KENTUCKY player and a LEAPING CAUCASION from southern Indiana who just dropped in 51 points in back to back game against ranked BE teams. No ONE’N’Doners… No “LOOK AT ME NBA” players. They have 2010 Mr. KENTUCKY Basketball playing for them, they have 2011 Mr.KENTUCKY Basketball signed for next year. No-Names playing for the name on the FRONT OF THE JERSEY. Does this ring a bell with ANYONE???? (hint…this university isn’t UK…but used to be).

We historians all agree that if the 92 team had been a little less selfish, they would have easily beaten Duke.

UL has really only beaten one good team, UConn. IMO Syracuse isn’t that good and they never are. Yeah they had a great record and high ranking going into big east play, but the fact is they played 14 games at home against really bad teams lol. they do that EVERY year. There’s a reason Boeheim has been coaching 35 years and only has ONE championship!! He’s an awful coach!!!

I guess everyone forgets that UL got thrashed by ND just last week, lol. We beat UL and Notre Dame like a drum!! UConn took it to us, but we didn’t have FOUR months to prepare for them as Pitino did.

    12) – I do not see anything in post 7 that states the Cards won on new years eve – the Cats put a beat down on the Cards and Harrellson looked like a lottery pick that day. In any event, I am not sure what your point is – Bottomline is that post 7 is accurate and you cannot refute it. Oh yea – GO CARDS!

BTI still sweats Pitino, like most Cayut fans. You have a used car salesman coaching (cough cough)coaching your team now. Enjoy him before he bolts and leaves your program in shambles.

7.) That hurt but it’s true… This ONE’n’DONE stuff is for the birds. Why would a player have the HEART (which coach says we lack)want to play for the front of a jersey when it’s only a stopping point for his NBA. I miss the days of Pitino and Kentucky born players… You think Hood is having fun??? You think Kentucky born players are going to UK? Why? The ONE’N’DONES. What’s it been, 13 going on 14 years since UK’s last final four? As a state of Kentucky fan, I like Louisville’s team! Go CARDS! Represent the state!!!

And who can for get the most unforgetable….Yeah that’s what I’m talking about. All spread out on a table while little Ricky had his 15 seconds of fame…down his leg!
    17. 18, Had ANY COACH at UK done something like what your coach did, The UK admin would’ve thrown his ass out on the street so quick it would’ve looked like a Ricky 3Stacks bagged lunch to go. Your bottom feeding university is what’s wrong with kids today. They screw up, and both your coaches and your AD looks the other way. My guess if they were so valuable unlike those two shlubs that were on your football team that beat the hell out of one of their OWN teammates they might’ve gotten some type of penality. But Three Stacks don’t roll that way. Keep your ghetto school and all that make it up, for it’s rather sad that in a state that has 3 or more D1 schools, the UofLoserville ranks in at #0.
Go pencil in your line beard, Iron that bill on your hat…for the “L” that in front it stands for the LOSERS that you are. Now hurry and do your homework, and don’t color outside the lines…Quick Rick will be extremely disappointed in you. Run along!

UL fans will deny this to the very end, but when Pitino signed his first extension with UL there was a clause that he can not refer to coaching at UK anymore. This clause was a result of the “leaving UK was the worst coaching mistake Ive ever made” comment.

If you listen to Pitino after that extension his UL teams are alwys the best team he’s EVER had at doing _______!! The real reason he forgot the “unforgetables” is because his contract wont allow him to talk about them.

    20. Go away TROLL! “the unfortunate truth….” and “tell it like it is…..” is the same person. We dont need youre sorry excuse on this site. Syracuse has lost 6 of its last 8, and is in a tailspin, while UL wins by 3 points at home, suddenly UL fans think they are going to the Final four.

UL beat UConn (also in a losing funk) on the road, but other than that all their big wins have come at home. Sorry boys but thats the same thing UK fans are dealing with.

  27. We’ll be fine……After all all we have to do is look north and KNOW Lousyville fold like the deck of cards they are…..

    26) Wrong. I don’t think any UofL fan thinks this is a final four team. We like like the chemistry and the unselfish play, thats all. You see, unrealistic expectations and dreaming about “glory days” is for Cats fans who have nothing else to do.

    25) Got a copy of that contract?

    22) Between UofL and the school in Lexington, which one has the most recent final Four appearance?

    29. So you really think Pitino remembers a 1987 Providence team, but forgets the team that actually defined him as a coach and put Pitino in the “Elite” status. That UK team defied all odds and took the mighty Duke to the wire, and Pitino himself called that team the greatest bunch of guys ever put together, and Pitino DEMANDED they be called the “Unforgetables” and a banner be hing in Rupp.

Then today he cant remember them, and thinks this UL team plays for the jersey more than any team he’s ever coached? After Pitino came out and said “leaving UK was a mistake”, Jurich included a “youre the UL coach now” clause in his first extension in 2003

    35) I will be 49 later this year, and I have seen UofL win two NCAA Championships, and I have seen UK win three in that same time span. Wow. UK truly is overpowering, huh? And I don’t care what anyone says, NCAA Championships were easier to come by in the 40’s and 50’s. Not as many teams played in the post season and the NIT and NAIB had legit post season tourneys.

There was a big up roar because that ‘other’ coach did not mention the Unforgettables this week as being one of his teams that only played for the name on the front of the shirt. I think he was an over sight, but a big one that he probably knew he was doing at the time. What I found interesting was what came before that statement. He said, “Every group of guys you coach today the number 1 weakness is ego. Ego is the greatest killer of potential there is today. In every aspect of life ego kills.” He read an interesting quote from the 12 Step Program for AAA. “Ego is edging God out. And that is what ego is.”
Now don’t you find that interesting? I do, I think his ego is what got him into trouble with Karen Sypher. How can he stand there and talk with a straight face about ego?
