…..Pete Thamel…..

You’ve undoubtedly seen or heard about the horrific injury to Louisville’s Kevin Ware by now.  First and foremost, we here at KSR wish nothing but the best to Mr. Ware.

However, Pete Thamel had a different spin on the injury. He took the opportunity to link a story regarding Kevin Ware’s recruitment at Central Florida and how it, in part, led to their probation. I’m truly at a loss for words on how a human being can be so insensitive. Absolutely unreal.

First, to Kevin Ware, my best wishes and hope for a speedy recovry. I hate to see an injury to any player. As far as Pete Thamel goes, I am not a Louisville fan. I enjoy seeing them lose, but even the Cards deserve better than having that scumbag write about them. Even their fans deserve better. I wish he would go somewhere and do some hard manuel labor. Maybe he could sweat some of the poison out of his system, so that it wouldn’t come out in his writing.
50, I guess we’ll never really know what would have happened if Pitino had stayed at Kentucky. But I think we would have fired him by now. He wouldn’t stop flirting with the NBA and it was affecting his recruiting. Coaches at other schools would tell a recruit, “Hey, don’t go to Kentucky. Pitino’s goinjg to take an NBA job, and then you’ll have to switch coaches in the middle of your college career.”

Guys like this that love to hate in the aftermath are truly pittiful. The boy had an injury that will be played over and over again on tv as one of the worst. You choose to play a story that was not really an issue. At no time can one kid take a program down. In order to take a program down some one at a (level) higher than a player has to make a decision. These kids are not responsible for the problem, the profiteers and those like are the responsible for the problems. Any MAN who writes a story about a boy taking advantage of a multi million dollar university is obliviously not a real journalist, but only a glorified blogger.

It’s a joke to see UK fans referring to Coach “Cal” as the Godfather of college basketball, when Rick has been called that for 20 years. When will the jealousy ever end for those people? A bag full of money got his national title for him from alumni to get the top players. He is never going to be the coach Rick is. They hired Gillispie only because he put Louisville out of the tournament the year before. He was a class act. Calipari has had everything he won erased because of cheating. He’s the best at that, and now knows how not to get caught. And for UK fans to celebrate Kevin Ware’s injury shows what a bunch of first class jerk offs they all are. Go Cardinals!

CaptWill, you’re a douchebag. All KY fans are behind Kevin Ware. Haven’t you ever heard of a Indiana fan? They masquerade here all the time. You see how we’ve ripped into anyone who’s said anything about Ware. As far as jealousy? Why would the winning-est BB program with 8 titles EVER be jealous of U of L? That’s entirely laughable! I’m not sure you’re even a U of L fan. You must be an IU fan masquerading as a U of L fan. Therefore YOU SUCK!!!

I pray for Kevin Ware’s full recovery this evening. I know I’m almost 3 hours late but the poster “ridge runner” can go to hell for that comment. That “person” is not welcome in the Big Blue Nation.

Godspeed Mr Ware and as always Go Big Blue.

Hey, I hope that everyone understands that KSR not only permits the trolls to come here but they encourage them by not forcing registration. They do so because that adds to the revenue stream…every troll that comes here puts extra $$$ in the KSR bank. So please don’t look for name registration because it would lead to a loss in income and that is not going to happen. I think the best thing to start doing is to simply IGNORE the people who make the outrageous comments. They simply make them to get a rise out of us. If we ignore them and act like they do not exist, they will eventually go away because they crave the attention.

64,you may be right. As I said we’ll never know now what would have happened if he had stayed. But the last two years pitino was here, he signed a total of 4 recruits. The one recruit he got in his next to last year, Jamaal Maglorie, was a good one for us, but that’s they only time I can ever remember Kentucky signing just one player. None of the 3 recruits he signed in his last year panned out for us. One of them, Michael Bradley was a real good player for the school he transfered to. Ryan Hogan was never going to get more than spot minutes for us. And as for Myron Anthony, the one Pitino was so high on, he may have had talent, but he was sadly lacking in good character. All three of these were gone after two years, and not to the NBA. They had transfered to other schools. Had this continued for another two or three years, the program would have been in bad shape, probably worse than when Pitino got here.

#104 Corey take a breath. There might have been a few UK fans that were happy about Ware’s injury but I’m sure it wasn’t very many. About the same as Nerlenes injury.

Just sent this to SI customer service. [thanks to 105 Travis for the link.]

    To Whom It May Concern:

    Dear Sir/Madam,

Your staff sportswriter, Pete Thamel issued a tweet regarding Kevin Ware of the University of Louisville Cardinals that was reprehensible, considering his timing. His total lack of empathy, his lack of concern for Kevin Ware and his family is one of the most pathetic displays of insensitivity and callousness I’ve witnessed in my life from another human being.

I’ve long been a fan of SI magazine and I’m not against sports media. We need you. What we don’t need is someone like Mr. Thamel, who evidently lacks the character to cover anything that has to do with so much human emotions as college sports in America. I am a KY wildcat fan and am speaking on behalf of a Louisville Cardinal player, so, as you can imagine, sports hatred or rivalry only goes so far. When something happens like what happened to Kevin Ware, Nerlens Noel, or ANY player of ANY sport, we have to show support, decency and integrity to convey our gratitude toward the student athlete, professional athlete or ANY athlete for all that THEY put on the line for our entertainment.

If you believe what Pete Thamel wrote represents the best of Sports Illustrated, keep him on your staff. But if you find within your humanity, decency and integrity that what he did was indeed going too far, then please set an example, show the world what you really stand for and FIRE PETE THAMEL.

I sent an email to SI (I won’t bore all of by printing it here) and I wanted to let you know you can send an email through the “contact us” link also, not just the SI customer service link. The reason I mention this is that I tried the customer service link and I would have needed an account and would have needed to log in to send an email. With the “contact us” link on their homepage, you do not need to have an account to send a message. I do think we all should let SI know know how we feel about Thamel…a classless human being. Corey, I really like what you said in your email, mine was very similar.

109…’re right…the recruits did suffer that last year…i had not realized the actual names… While i acknowledge that….i still believe that Pitino would have maintained a very high level of success here…i really believe he would have more final fours and possible championships had he stayed….i do think he would have had to finally rebuff all NBA questions to quiet possible recruits…i guess my main thought is that had he stayed…great things would have occurred!

All the best to kevin Ware and family. As was the case with Dereck Anderson’s injury and welfare Rick Pinto will do his best to insure Kevin Ware receives the best of care and guidance. I hope all fans, Kentucky and otherwise will join in wishing Kevin Ware a speedy and productive recovery. Good luck to the Louisville Cardinals and Keep that championship trophy in Kentucky.
