Perry Ellis to announce this afternoon

perryellis

Make sure you’re either near a computer or Wichita, Kansas this afternoon for Perry Ellis’ big announcement. Ellis will announce his commitment today at 3:45 ET (2:45 if you’re in Kansas) from his high school gym. Ellis is choosing from Kansas, Kansas State, Wichita State, and Kentucky.

Perry’s mother, Fonda Ellis, says Kansas and Kentucky are in the mix because of their tradition. Look for it to be one of those two schools in the end. Kansas State has a slim chance because he really likes Frank Martin and how his players play for him. Wichita State, well, let’s be real here. Perry Ellis isn’t going to Wichita State.

The Wichita-Leader says Kansas is the favorite. I say it’s not over ’til it’s over.

4 1/2 hours…

Wouldn’t be a bad pick up, but no way this kid play as a freshman and I’d say he’d see limited minutes as a sophmore. Still would be a solid recruit.

It’s going to be UK. I saw Mrs. Ellis in Kentucky looking at real estate and enrolling her kids at LCA.

Its Kansas……why go through your senior season being booed every game for choosing Ky. If it were Ky he would wait til the spring. IMO

    4. are you serious? this kid is a monster, he sees SIGNIFICANT minutes as a true freshman! it will be no different than any of the other freshman players Cal has brought in since day one.

    6. good logic, and i think it would be tough to be sitting in a presser at your HS in wichita and announce UK, if he does go UK, I gained respect for the kid for having balls.

It’s Kentucky moving to Louisville to play his senior year of High School and to let Rickie see what he missed!

We are not getting this guy. Not a chance in hell. Better off watching Magnum PI re-runs at 2:45.

6- I thought the same thing, but Archie Goodwin just committed to us over his home school, so you never know. Having said that, I think it’s KU.

    9. Thats why Goodwin decided to go to Arkansas. Oh wait… He chose UK.

Its “Cal’s World”…..we just live in it. We will get who Cal really “wants”….now…continue to party on Wayne.

I think it will be KU, but I don’t buy the he would wait if it were UK argument. First, UK is recruiting his position, just like we are Goddwin’s position. Second, the same logic would apply to Goodwin (see #13 comment above), but he chose UK. The logic would also apply to all 4 of our freshmen this year, but they all chose UK in the summer/fall before senior season, and all were recruited by more local schools. So I don’t see that being a big factor.

#6 Yeah, that’s exactly why Archie Goodwin from Little Rock Arkansas, who was pretty much down to UK, Ark, and Memphis waited til spring to announce for UK…. except for he didn’t. If a kid has the cojones to come to the spotlight of UK, and will work his butt off to make the NBA, he isn’t going to worry about playing out his Senior season in his homestate after announcing for another school. Ellis may decide to stay in Kansas, but don’t think it would be because he fears boos in his Senior HS season…

I’d rather see him choose Kansas and leave room for Poythress. Poythress is much better! Not impressed by an of Perry’s videos.

Goodwin also didn’t announce he was leaving his home state in front of his high school. He tweeted it. Not taking anything away from him but at least the threats Goodwin heard from were on the internet. Ellis might here them from the principle lol

He’s coming to UK because that is all his mom has talked about since Cal and the other coaches was there. UK gets him and the rest starts to fall into place for next year. GO UK CATS!!!

  34. William Braskey
    2:27 pm September 21, 2011 Permalink

All those saying he won’t pick UK because of being booed were the same people saying Goodwin would pick Arkansas for the same reason last week. I don’t think we’ll get him, but the PF/C positions are still loaded with available impact players.

I don’t know that we can get Muhammed off of the west coast, but a great class is still there to be had.

Think how rugged a lineup could be with Polythress playing the 3, a guy like Bennett playing the 4, and Coleman at center.
