The number 1 recuriting class! Drink it in! In general I’m not crazy about football recruit interviews, but I’ve been impressed with the last few. My guess is the site redesign won’t happen while they are on the tour… I think it will happen once they get back from the cruise, but before football season. If not, then I don’t think it will happen until 2014.
So how did everyone watching channel 9, 11, or 36 during the last minute of the NBA game last night? I have a feeling Paula Deen’s brother had something to do with EAS alert haha.
UK_JB, I watched it on 36 through Dish, there was a scrolling bar saying there would be a test, but they never broke away from the game.

I was on a chat with Mo Egger earlier and I asked him about UK’s recruiting class and why he didn’t have Stoops on the show. He said that he’d asked twice and was told no thanks. With Stoops doing so much recruiting why won’t he come on the radio in Cincinnati?

I admit it – I usually hate the early leavers too, but last night I was guilty of turning the game off when there was 30 seconds left and the Spurs were up 5. I gave up and went to bed.

I have DIRECTV and got the EAS test as well. It’s not your cable/satellite provider that schedules it but the local network, in this case WHAS11.

I am on AT&T UVerse and I also got the emergency broadcast test. But I wouldn’t switch due to the test.
and to expand, uverse has a small screen pop up for those emergency broadcast allowing you to ignore. it’s fantasic.
I have rabbit ears and it’s recorded on my beta vcr player so I haven’t rewinded the tape yet to see it.
Matt I have direct and we got the signal also, but they ran it across the top of the screen. So we got to see the action but the sound was beep beep beep.

I have a good friend that was my roommate at uk from NOLA. He just texted me and word is Pelicans vs Bobcats game in Rupp next year. He’s typically very reliable and is in the “know” in the big easy. Not trying to spread rumors just thought I’d pass the information along
Literally only 2 ways how those Emergency broadcast systems go off: either they are timed (randomly) or the people controlling it literally have no sports soul.
Who fouled Calathes at midcourt with no time remaining in the game? Rupp was loud when he missed those FTs.
We got hit with the emergency broadcast system test down here in Florida the year Mickelson won his first Masters. They cut to the test right as phil was setting up over the putt on 18 that he made to win.
The FCC requires broadcast TV and Radio Stations run the EAS test once a week. Some stations run it at randomly by automation, meaning it can fire at any time. Some run the test by an operator, manually at a designated time.
The emergency broadcast system is a pet peave of mine. Does it serve any purpose at this point? I picture a dusty box full of vacum tubes sitting in the corner of the TV studio that the govement installed in 1959 and has not been touched since. I don’t remember it ever actually being used for a real emergency. Just turn on one of the ten 24-hour news stations! I’m sure they would have better information than you can get from the 8-bit graphics created on a commadore 64 that come on during the “test”.
Andy Miller will be a great agent for Nerlens. The question is why Driscoll made him a “co-agent” along with his boy Frank Catapano.
Forgot to mention that it was just the sound and did not affect the picture on AT&T UVerse.
I watched the game on rabbit ears and 36 scrolled the alert on the top of the screen, but i never lost my picture or sound.

Matt – when we stayed at Marriot in Atlanta three weeks ago (the same trip I met Ryan Harrow 99% alike, the face, the hair, most impressed is the same high pitched squeak voice, the only difference would be the height I swear), the hotel alarm started beeping around 7 am and lasted (off and on with different floor) for at least 20 minutes – so annoying 🙁

Not a fashion forward gal, but those high-waisted pants/shorts look very unflattering and uncomfortable.
I went to a music festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama last month, all kinds of girls wearing those shorts. Let me tell you, never tried so hard to hide boners in my life. Dude they’re hot! But they were probably around 18-22 years old too.

Matt, if Stoops can translate his recruiting success into wins and creating a solid Top 15-25 program, would this entice Cal into staying longer than he plans? With the two working side by side with marketing, wins, etc the potential of UK becoming a Texas, Ohio State, or Florida type school is a real possibility.

I think Prep Schools are a big reason KY basketball is down overall. Dangelo Russell is a stud player from Louisville but since he is at Montverde he will not play in that all star game. Indiana High School basketball is much better across the board so not nearly as many status players leave the state to play at prep schools.

Andrew Harrison will tear apart Chris Jones. Most Louisville fans who rave about him have never seen him play.
Poor coaching and related politics has been the problem for the Kentucky All-Stars. For example about four years ago, Eric Mosley from Moore was the state’s leading scorer his senior year and he didn’t make the team because he was an inner-city kid from Louisville with some questionable history and the coaches were from out in the state. Mosley went on to play at St. Bonaventure and was one of the nation’s very best three-point shooters this past season.

Indiana just has a much bigger pool of players to choose from than Kentucky. They have Southern Indiana, Indianapolis, and the Northern Indiana-Chicago suburbs region.

Texas State started nothing but non-scholarship players, they weren’t very good in the beginning but by the end of the season they were something.

Hahaha ol’ Steve that just called in just mentioned that towel story about A&M. I played Safety in high school and wore a towel and my coach always told me that story about ND’s player’s towel getting stolen. So funny to hear about that story again.
The 12 man was started when Centre College play Texas A & M. They only had 11 players so if someone got hurt a fan was ready to play(he didn’t actually play.
OJ Mayo and Bill Walker played their last year in high school at North College Hill in Cincinnati. That school is not a basketball “academy.” They were an AWESOME team that year though, and had a great game (a loss) against Oak Hill Academy for the national championship.

I’m just listening to yesterday’s podcast, and Matt asked if you consider the John Wall season a failure. Conveniently enough, ESPN had John Wall on Sportsnation and asked him that exact same question. He said “Yes, I consider it a failure.” He said their goal was the championship, and they fell short.
