Patterson’s stock rises at the combine

SEC Mississippi Kentucky Basketball

With all of the buzz around people trying to figure out DeMarcus Cousins and drooling over John Wall, Patrick Patterson’s name hasn’t been bantered about in the leadup to the NBA draft quite as much as it probably should. However, that doesn’t mean that NBA people haven’t taken notice of the well-rounded big man, and it seems he made an impression on everyone at the Chicago pre-draft camp. In a combine-wrapup podcast, Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress talked about how much Patterson helped himself over the weekend in the Windy City. A couple of telling quotes:

The guy that really helped himself the most was Patrick Patterson. Out of the 14 players in our mock draft lottery right now, 13 of them decided not to do any basketball activities whatsoever. The only guy that did was Patrick Patterson. Talking to NBA teams, he helped himself tremendously by doing that because he just showed that the guy is a competitor. He’s not afraid of a challenge. Interviewing him, talking to him, I mean, he could run for President in ten years. He’s that impressive of a person. So I really think that he’s going to go a lot higher than people think at this point and he’s gonna be a great NBA player.

You’re socks are going to be knocked off by how impressive of a guy Patrick Patterson is.

He’s coming to the NBA ready to play right away. There’s no doubts about this guy. He’s going to be a starting power forward from day one.

I’d say, if Givony’s words are any indication, Pat stock skyrocketed this weekend. And the best part? It skyrocketed just based on him being the Patrick Patterson we know and love: Hard working, engaging, intelligent and hard working. NBA teams have seemingly caught on and it looks like he might even creep into the top ten by the time the June 24th draft comes around.

The podcast also includes some tidbits on what actually goes on at the combine, how John Wall performed and NBA teams’ comfort level with one-and-done players. Now I’ll link it and get out of the way so you can hear for yourself.
