Patrick Towles Frustrated According to Father

In an interview with Kyle Tucker of the Courier Journal, Patrick Towles’ father says his son is frustrated and feels as though he could contribute immediately.

On the topic of transferring Towles’ father said.

We are not looking into anything like that at this point at all.  Patrick dearly wants to contribute to the University of Kentucky and he wants to do it now, but as far as transferring, we’ve not made any decisions on that.”

Terry Towles, also went on to say.

“All Patrick has ever wanted is just an opportunity to compete, and I think there is some definite frustration over that. He wants to contribute. He came to the University of Kentucky because he thought he could immediately help. And he’s frustrated. But he’s staying positive. I’ve talked to someone who sees practice and he’s going at it full-tilt and working hard.”

Be patient young man. A better coach will be here next year and your body will just be bigger and stonger. Besides you won’t take the pounding of this year and you’ll have 4 years to get ready for the pros. Good things come to those who wait.

If it was my son I’d advise him to jump off this train wreck too. I would bet a large sum of money that he’s gone after this year though. If the UK a.d. doesnt care to see the football program in shambles, why should he feel bad about looking elsewhere?

There is no sense in burning his redshirt on a team that is likely going to end up at 2-10. Even if Towles came in and made us significantly better, our defense would still be terrible, our receivers still wouldn’t be able to catch, and our coaching staff would still make awful decisions. Even if he came in and got us to 3-9 or 4-8 by some miracle, its simply not worth using up his redshirt.

Dude needs to relax. Even the best quarterbacks generally have to put in there time first. He didn’t play because Joker is saving him a year of eligibility. Max Smith probably isn’t going anywhere anytime soon and it would be hard to justify taking the starting job from him since hes shown to be a pretty reliable qb so far.

#8 because he will take a major beating this year. Andre Woodson sat out one year and he did pretty good in his stay. Besides maybe Petrino, or a Leach, will be here then and the kid won’t have to throw a 3 yard pass on fourth and 8.

    Mr. Towles,
Your son would have redshirted at any other school he chose to attend. While we truly suck on the field football, unlike basketball, can’t be lifted from the sh$t-pile with one awesome player. It takes 22 relatively decient players to field a competitive team. Your son will end up like Tim Couch when it is all said and done….patience mine Blue Brethren. Mitch will surely bring in a Head Man that will bring all of Patrick’s gifts and talents to the forefront……

Don’t go jumping ship when you have 4 years of awesomeness ahead of you. Patrick Towles will end up being the thing that “Legends” are made.

This bothers me a lot. If Towles can go out there and complete 75% of his passes, then he should be playing. I just don’t see that happening right now. Thus, if you’re not better than our #1 QB, you won’t play. That would be the same at any school Towles went to.

You also don’t play a guy just to play him…..he’s more valuable to the long-term health of the program than he is at the moment with Maxwell Smith playing the way he has been (High passing completion %, 8TDs, 966 yards passing in 3 games…it doesn’t get much better than that statistically).

Honestly I thought our offense would be would be much better than our defense before yesterday’s game. I don’t blame the kids, but the coaches who are running this whole debacle. seriously, I was totally embarassed by the play calling and the whole defensive scheme was so terrible that UF could’ve gotten a bunch of blue haired snow birds could’ve gained over 7 yards a carry, and 10 yards per pass.

I like Joker, but there are times like this when you should know when you’re overwhelmed, and just out coached. The best thing he should do is just resign immediately without putting a coach “in waiting”. It didn’t work for the Colts for Dungey (Caldwell) it won’t work for the Cats.

If not, then the UK administration should fire Mitch Barnhardt, Joker & Staff to bring in all new blood. I hope the UK Football Fans can see this Shipwreck and quit going to games to bring about CHANGE!!!! And I also hope Patrick Towles will not give up on the University of Kentucky and stick around long enough for this change to happen. What a shame it would be if he transfers!! To all you saying that Smith is a better QB then Towels you know nothing about football. If you are sayingTowels isn’t ready to play yet due to not being on campus untill the summer I’ll take that. Towels will be the starter for UK next year if we have a capable staff. Also none of us have no idea what this kid was promised during recruiting.
Every school has this same problem with young QB’s. Do you play them early a little unprepared and learn on the job, because this season is all ready tanked. Or do you redshirt them and let them start off prepared after a year to learn the system.

I take issue with the reporter who asked Mr. Towles these questions. Seriously, its almost like they are just trying to stir the pot. I’m not in practice, but I would be surprised if Towles was futher along than Max Smith. If Smith is clearly better than Towles, than the right decision is for Towles to redshirt. This creates two years of separation between Smith and Towles class wise.

He has a right to be pissed when someone like Newton played yesterday and had those results. And Newtons and even some fans excuse that he was just thrown in and didnt even know Max wasnt going to play is bull sh!t. He is a senior and the back up QB. And its no different if Max was hurt in the middle of the game. UKs offense is based around a passing QB and thats what Towels is. Why not play players as freshmen and sophmores so we have players all over the field that have 2 or 3 years starting experience when they are seniors rather that seniors who are starting for the first time. Thats why we always suck and dont have veteran leaders every year

Hey Uncle Larry (40): Better to keep silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!

By your own admission, you know nothing about Patrick Towles. It is abundantly obvious by your comments. I have seen Towles play. First, Patrick Towles is one of the nicest, most mannerly and maturely grounded college freshman you will ever meet. For you to call him “punk” and “spoiled little bit(h” shows you to be egregiously ignorant.

Towles is 6-5, 242 lb. and runs a 4.6 40. He was thrust into the QB position at Ft. Thomas Highlands as a sophomore, starting the last nine games of the season, throwing for 1,138 yards and 10 touchdowns with only 2 INT’s that year. He also added five touchdowns on the ground. By the way, he led Highlands to the state championship that year and Highlands ended the year as the #3 team in the national USA Today Super 25! He added two more state championships to his resume before he graduated (5 straight championships for Highlands, 21 SC’s ties Trinity). Towles was named MVP of the last two state championship games. Towles career record at Highlands was 38-1.

Senior year stats: 3,820 passing yd, 42 TD, 64.9 completion %, 1 INT, 589 yd rushing, 5.9 yd per carry, 15 TD. Highlands ended the season #34 nationally. Towles was rated in the nation’s top 25 Pro-style QB’s (#9 at Rivals) and was selected for the Nike Elite 11 camp.

Patrick Towles had many college football programs knocking. He chose UK because the kid bleeds blue just like Tim Couch. If he weren’t an athlete, he would still be at UK in pre-med or pre-law. I cannot argue with the coaches that Towles is better than Max Smith at this point, but in time he has much higher potential.

Your imbecilic thoughts are completely negated by the Tweet from Patrick Towles. Since your foot is in your mouth already, just finish gnawing off your foot so you can’t walk to your internet keyboard again!

First thing we need to do is hire an offensive passing guru of a coach. Either Petrino or Leach and then Towles will be set to do good things. He/we are way better off not wasting a year of him this year. He gets one year to get stronger and mature. Joker’s best move as head coach of UK football.

A freshman can’t learn this offense. Max went through Spring Practice in 2011, Fall Camp in 2011, and played with some effectiveness late in the 2011 season when Newton was injured (Coach Sanders said he was using less then 25% of the playbook if I remember correctly). Max has now had a 2nd year of Spring Practice and Fall Camp in 2012 and still only knows about 75% of the playbook (if memory serves). Towles should be about where Max was this time last year and is supposed to have a stronger arm and better accuracy with similar skills reading defenses. If all that is true, he should beat out Max next year. We could have competed better against FL if Towles had played (OR Jalen Whitlow) instead of Newton (unless there would be NO PASSING as in the TN game with Roark) but still would have lost. So why WASTE a year of Towles’ eligibility to lose a game “closer” than we did? His time is NEXT YEAR unless he slacks off and doesn’t clearly surpass Max.

Hold your horses there Mr. Towles. Patrick being red shirted is the best thing for him or almost any freshman quarterback. The quarterback position is the most important and most complex position on the team.He must have not only a firm grip on his offense but also a firm grip on the opposing teams defensive schemes. He has to be able to see their defensive alignment and get into a play from our complex playbook that will be effective against their defensive play. All the while, their team is trying to disguise their defensive call to mix the young quarterback up. How can a quarterback fresh out of high school master all these in just a few practices with his new college team? Max Smith is just now starting to play like an SEC quarterback should be playing. Let Smith do his job and let Towles earn his way up the depth chart. If he is truly as talented as everyone seems to think, he will earn his way on the field in due time.

The quotes above are interesting but the other quotes in the article are even more so.
““Patrick has always been about one thing, and that’s winning — winning now,” his father said. “He’s not concerned about playing part of one year taking about a year of eligibility. He’s not concerned about that at all. He wants to play now. Right now.”

    But what if he doesn’t?

“We’ll make determinations later in the year, but I know he wants nothing more than to be at the University of Kentucky,” Terry Towles said. “We’ll see how this season continues to play out. If we feel this program is headed in the right direction, then Patrick I know certainly wants to be a part of it.”

For those saying he is being outperformed in practice-remember you’re getting the info from the same source that couldn’t see much separation between Max and Morgan.

58: No one says Towles is quitting. If you read the article, his father says Pat is working as hard as ever in practice. He tweets that he wants to play only for Kentucky. So who’s a punk and who’s a chump? BTW, Towles won 2 5A championships before HHS reclassified to 4A his senior year. He beat every 6A team he faced but one (2-pt loss to Ryle in 2010 after a failed 2-pt conversion attempt for the win). Do national team rankings (without classification) and national player evaluations mean nothing to you? Seriously, stop embarrassing yourself. Argue with the others if you will that Smith, Newton or Whitlow are more game-ready at this point, but with your severely limited knowledge, stop with the punk-calling. Towles will never be a punk. Class act all the way. You could learn something from him.
