Patrick Patterson wants you to chill out and listen to Matt Jones

patrick-patterson-tweet

It seems like we go through this routine pretty often, so I’m assuming you’re used to it.  The Cats lost on the road.  It was close.  They made critical errors down the stretch.  You’re mad.  We’re mad.  Now we talk about it.  The only difference this time around, though, is that it appears that a certain head coach might have a little heat headed his way on tonight’s show.  You can tune in and listen to Matt Jones on the 840 WHAS airwaves shortly or listen online here.  And as always, you can let the world hear your thoughts by calling (502) 571-8484.

The show will start in a few minutes.

PPat, we will freak out…losing on the road costs you seeding. Yeah, I agree SEC tourney is a home/neutral game but you can’t rely on that. No excuse to lose to either Ole Miss or Arkansas. In game coaching was poor. No excuse. Bad seeding means we win first round game and face a real good opponent in second round who WILL bring a crowd. So you need to settle down, chief.

If home court is worth 2.5 points, we have only 3 losses. Trust me, any team that draws us in the NCAA on a neutral court will dread facing us. Go Cats!

We can support through losses to Alabama, Ole’ Miss, Vandy, Florida and Georgia, but Arkansas is too much. This team will be lucky to see it to the second round of both tournaments. Anyone who thinks differently is kidding themselves.

    I agree completely.
I’m pissed we lost but the tournaments are not road games. They’re nuetral courts, and Kentucky fans always have and always will travel for their team. We can still make a deep run. No one has more talent then us.
    GO CATS!

I’ve tried to tell you guys the vacater cannot coach. He is inept. In fact, he doesn’t recruit. He is lazy. He lets the real coaches recruit, then he swoops in at the 11th hour and has his peeps buy players. the fact that he didn’t suspend Orton for walking off the court last year, tells you everyting you need to know about Cal. He can’t coach up average players. He doesn’t draw up plays. He tells his star players to make a play. A real coach would have benched Liggins after the T. But not Cal. He wants to win at all costs and it bit him. Dribble drive is a fraud. Cal needs 6 or 7 NBA players to make up for his pathetic coaching.

This team is simply soft. That’s the issue. They don’t have the toughness to go out and win a road game, regardless of whether the team they are playing is even good. Let’s hope that we can take care of Florida and Vandy at home otherwise we’re really in trouble.

We need more Pattersons – guys who will stay at UK for 3-4 years.

Talent alone does not win games.

I hate that UK loses – but I hate worse that UK has a coach who thinks NBA lottery picks are more important than banners and who is trying to recruit his way to a NCAA Title because he simply cannot coach.

Fans need to continue to love the blue, support the players – but recognize we have a coach that is setting us up for many disappointments and possible embarassment.

The team is wimpy and so is the coaching down the stretch. Rebounds to win go right thru our hands and we set up a play to shoot the outside shot. Tournament success is doubtful. Cheating Bruce and UT will manhandle us. I’m afraid the home win streak will be out the window. Very disappointing!!!

When’s the next High School game on ESPN. That seems to get UK fans more excited that our current team – and that’s a shame.

When a coach build’s his entire strategy on 17-year-old kids – it’s a recipe for disaster.

I’ll take Clarke over Lamb any day of the week. I’ll take Vandy’s Jenkins over Jones.

What bothers me worse than anything, is that we have regressed instead of progressed. This team simply doesn’t know how to win when things are tight. Last years team had the ability to will a win. Players like Wall just simply has that ora that would shine thru when the $hit got thick. We don’t have that. Knight played his A$$ off and should be commended for the effort as a whole. Jorts also, hats off. Jones is not living up to his billing, and Lamb has fell off the face of the earth. When you have little margin for error, you have to play your best game to win. We just don’t do that very often. It is what it is. I don’t think we have much chance in Atlanta, hope I’m wrong, and if we make it to the sweet 16 in the dance, it’ll be a miracle. Let’s just look forward to next year. Just one more thing, to be outshooting your opponent in a half 52% to 28% and be outscored by 7 points is a stat that I cannot comprehend.

#13…. so cal shouldn’t get the best players in the country? He should go to tates creek and get all their seniors? I agree we need more Pattersons… But you can’t blame the man for getting the best players. And yes, developing his players is more important than a banner. That’s a true coach. He cares about his players and wants them to succeed personally. If I was a player I would run to cal cause he knows how to prepare people for the next level, not to coach k so I can get a banner…

Cal cannot coach a lick. It’s really that simple. A real coach would be able to get something out of Poole, Hood and Vargas. Cal cannot coach players that aren’t ready made for the NBA.

35 – He has only six players. Cal has not developed his bench and last Spring I was urging concern because of all the departures. It was obvious this was going to be a VERY shallow team – and when your strategy is to recruit one-and-dones – that’s what you have.

Cal doesn’t seem intereseted in developing his bench either – because has he has plainly stated – his priority is to get his high school studs into the NBA. That means making sure they get those stats up – which can be done against Dillard, Mississippi Valley State and Coppin States – games that should’ve/could’ve been used to develope Hood and Poole.

It is what it is and what it is – is pathetic for a program like Kentucky.

Cal….we are tired of you being “outcoached” at the end of the game….we are tired of hearing the word YOUNG….we are tired of hearing “we are playing not to lose”…..we are tired of only having a 6 man rotation, and we are very tired of hearing and believing in the words “once and done”. Our confidence has to be so shaken now that the chances of us pulling out a W in Knoxville would have to be extremely remote, and there probably is also a very high probability of our home streak ending during the next 2 games.

    39. First of all there isn’t a coach in the world that can fix a train wreck such as vargas. Second, coaching young players most usually takes time. What has happened is last year we got fed the silver spoon immediately and now everyone has expectations based on last year.

News flash: Lottery pick 1&done = 4 year average player.

If Cal stops recruiting the best players, then the bad stuff happens. Tubby anyone? Gillespie? Hmmmm?

Talent is what wins games. Experience supplements talent. But tell me, would you really rather have a guy like Brian Williams just for the sake of having seniority?

Or would you rather have guys like Wall, Bledsoe, Cousins, Orton, Knight, Jones, Lamb, Kanter*, Davis, Wiltjer, Teague, Gilchrist, and Lacey? Honestly.

geez, did anyone really expect this season to be a huge success after last season and considering who our players were? A lot of UK fans are still experiencing the hangover from John Wall & company. Realistically if we get out of the first weekend and to the Sweet 16 I consider it a success. I still think we will be a tough draw due to the neutral court that comes with the NCAA tourney. On everyone cashing in their chips for next year, its to early to know how that experiment will turn on. On paper it looks like we have potential with our recruits and potentially Knight and Lamb both returning (depends on NBA lockout potential) but you never know. As far as the current team goes, I still think their biggest problem has been chemistry and not clicking and I don’t think they will figure that out before the end of the season either.

People just need to chillax. Last year was supposed to be the rebuilding year and look how good we were. It was a fluke really. Nobody thought at the beginning of last year that anyone other than Wall and PPat would go pro but look what happened. Cal could not predict that. No one could. This year is actually more like last year should have been. we have good players but no real leadership. Next year we will be back on track.

I have 2 things. One…this fan base is full of shit! I see now why everyone hates our guts. I guess the idiot that made the “BCG was 2 and 0 against Ark” comment would like to have the Clyde back. Cause he was able to beat the hogs. Never mind that he couldnt beat anybody else. We win and all is fine and normal. We lose and Cal can’t coach, our top players, who should win every game regardless of the lack of exp, suck. We just need to get rid of Cal and bring in who? The Louisville fans that are on here are just that, Louisville fans. Look around the country people. Look at all the top programs that have as many losses as we do. I have no clue why the yards are on here running their mouths cause they only have one less loss than we do, and I would bet my soul that on selection Sunday they end up with more losses than us. The comments on here have me embarressed to be a UK fan.

Totally agree 98. We are still soooo much better off than with BCG. Would rather have Cal over BCG ANY DAY. And the BBN should support the Cats regardless.

Thank god 98 posted that, you are 100% right, although its not the yards fans that are bothering me, it is this complete nonsense about cal being worthless, if they were to make a run all these talk would go away, reading half these comments make me realize whh UK fans are hated

#91 Louisville is on a decent run “sort of, kind of I think, they did get assaulted by ND recently” but they will go NOWHERE in the tourney just like us. Stop drinkin the red kool laid.

Stop bashing on Cal. You guys are ridiculous. They almost won every game except for the Uconn game using a six man rotation, and the worst player in UK-ball history (Vargas). How is that not great coaching?

First team to put 5 guys in first round, and the season after that they are still a top 25 team? If that is not great coaching, then nothing is.

Oh wait, I’m sure you want four year players for the NIT with Billy G, and NCAA second rounds with Tubby.

Lastly, the guys losing these games for KY are ALL CLYDE RECRUITS.

    STFU.

I think Patterson is one of the best players to put on the uniform, in terms of being a good guy and a decent player. But he left. He had a year left, and left. So if he wants us as fans to be cool with losing on a team he could have opted to be on, he can go F himself. I don’t care that he left for the NBA and money, and probably a great and long career. But dude, I don’t want to hear what you have to say about this. Nor would I want to here what Wall, Cousins, Bledsoe…etc.,etc. has to say either. You were loved, you left when you had a chance, congrats. Now go play in the NBA and cheer for your old college on the coach like the rest of us. I don’t care to hear what you have to offer! Sorry.

Coach can X and O all he wants but when you have a team and players who refuses to change their ways what do you guys want him to do. He has 6 guys rotation I would love for him to throw a game just to prove a point and let Polson and Hood play an entire game. We have a good shooting team but I don’t thing they get it that once you put a basket through a hoop you have to run to the other end and prevent opponents from getting a bucket. There is always some sort of weakness in a team last year it was perimeter shooting this year it is the depth and front court presence. Maybe next year we will have a complete team.

    106. He had a year left? Left of what? He finished his degree…What would he come back for? You go to college to get your degree. On top of that he took KY to #1 in the nation. Don’t think you are in the same “couch” as Patterson. This is his program. He put sweat, work, health, effort, heart, and dedication to this team. What did you do for the team? “Sit on the couch”?

I hope you choke and die.

#105 is exactly right…all u haters want a bunch of 3-4 year players then go b Minnesota gopher fans with tubby…or wherever BCG lands. I will take young talented guys over the upper classmen we got any day. Our experienced players don’t step up down the stretch or any other time for that matter, so y does everyone want a bounch of bad juniors and seniors so much? If ur not satisfied with 5 star recruits then what do u want? Unbelievable

Wow. I thought I was bad after a loss. I didn’t realize the number of idiots we have in our fan base. Cal is not the best X and O coach out there, however he is a very good coach. Don’t let the fact that this team has let these road woes get in their heads and control the way they play. You can blame him for not playing Hood, Poole and Vargas more in the preseason against the Bostons, and Coppin St.’s I do myself. You can blame him for his stubbornness in not playing a zone. But Cal can’t rebound the ball, Cal isn’t the one repeatedly getting T’ed up for arguing calls. You can draw up sure fire plays and game plans all day long but if the guys can’t execute it or won’t how can you blame the coach? He has been screaming and begging for more effort but they are not listening. Why? Because they know they can’t be pulled. This team doesn’t have the passion or competitive fire last year’s team had and that’s what pisses me off the most. Knight and Harrellson gave a ton of efffort, Miller too at times. But Jones, Lamb, and Liggins acted like they were wondering where they were going to eat after the game.

You beat this team by out hustling them! It is pure and simple that less tallented teams can beat KY this year if they want it more! We will lose to either Florida or Vandy at home, because one or both will out hustle us and expose our weakness. We will lose at TN. We will win two games in the SECC Tourney and lose the third. We will enter the NCAA Tourney with 11 losses and a 6 to 8 seed.

    91) Louisville has a “nice” class coming in next year. That’s nice. KY has what most are calling “the best ever”! You’ll always be little brother. You may win some games here and there. That’s nice. You’ll always be a ghetto school and as long as Pitino’s there you’ll have a two-timing, VD ridden, slime-ball for a coach who’s not hung one banner in the 10 years he’s slutted himself around town.
