Yesterday UK announced that it will have a second basketball exhibition opponent, the fighting Southern Baptists of Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. This was my first encounter with Ouachita and I am very excited to learn more about the University (you are on the clock Mosley). From the very quick search that I went on, I found out two important facts:
1. It is a regular opponent of Division I schools, including playing Texas A&M last season (which presumably is how they ended up here). The Aggies won 85-59, although Ouachita gave a nice performance for itself. If you have ever been to Arkadelphia (which most have not), you know that the “bright lights and big city” of Lexington isnt going to intimidate these guys.
2. Ouachita Baptist is one of the few Universities in America that hosts its own preliminary for the Miss America contest, available only to its students. Last year’s winner was Brooke Daye (shown above) who went on and came in third in the Miss Arkansas contest….a regular stop on the Bill Clinton world tour. No word yet on whether Daye will be at the game.
So there you go….learn about Ouachita Baptist…not only to they have the rare “OUA” vowel combo in their name, they are also a future home for Pageant queens everywhere. What a school!
