University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Oscar Combs! (Tuesday Show Thread)

Good morning and welcome to the Tuesday Show Thread brought to you by Oscar Comb’s hat. Oscar will be co-hosting with Matt today for two hours of awesomeness, including a brief appearance by Lexington Mayor Jim Gray to discuss the status of the Rupp Arena project. Plus, Oscar will more than likely tell an old UK story you’ve never heard before. It’s what he does.

Join in on the fun by calling (502) 571-1080.

Topics include:

— Why there is a horse running loose in front of the new Rupp Arena

— KSR goes to the King of the Bluegrass

— UK recruiting updates

— A little something about Samford (maybe)

The money for the arena is puzzling without specifics. The city already owns the land that Rupp sits on and will presumably keep the existing foundation and shell of Rupp, yet its several million more than Yum!? Is the city’s bond rating worse than Louisville’s? What features in the renovation are creating these costs?

Second great question Matt about having a real fan on the committee! EXCELLENT QUESTION!

    some questions for Jim,

    a) NET live seats after renovation (number of seats minus those allotted for “corporate” seats) ?

    b) Of the 120 million how much is just Rupp renovation? Any of that current debt rollover part of the 120? Any of the shops / hotel part of that 120 Million?

    c) How will they pay for it as Lexington has no Humana, Brown Foreman, YUM, Pappa Johns?

    d) why did they schedule the meeting on wednesday at the same time the UK women play Samford, and yet they are talking about the women being a tennant.

It is all about the surrounding developers making $$$$ just look at who is on the committee and go to some zoning meetings. That speaks volumes about what is really going on here

PS, Oscar, a big part of construction is the concrete in the foundation and the cost of the land acquired in construction. If they renovate, they do not have to buy all that CONCRETE. To the mayors credit he did say the place had good bones, which probably translates to better concrete in the 70’s than what they mix today.
