The 2010 NBA Draft is just over 24 hours away and Yahoo! Sports thinks Daniel Orton has turned into a freefalling draft prospect. Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Marc Spears say Orton’s knee issues, poor conditioning, and personal turmoil are a major red flag for NBA teams and Orton could fall all the way out of the first round.
But as Kentucky fans, we expect D.O. to be drafted in the top 20 and we’ll be rooting for him the whole way. We can look past his 0.0 spring semester GPA and cheer Daniel on because we believe in the old saying, “Once a Wildcat, Always a Wildc… Wait… he said WHAT?
From Yahoo! Sports:
Orton played one season at Kentucky, where he averaged just 13 minutes and 3.4 points behind DeMarcus Cousins. He left on relatively poor terms with coach John Calipari, and even told front offices in the predraft process that he wished he had chosen Kansas over Kentucky. Despite the belief he would be represented by agent Raymond Brothers, Orton hasn’t used him. He’s gone without an agent, using his family and former NBA coach Bob Hill to guide him through the process. That’s been a disastrous choice for him.
Now where I come from, those are fightin’ words. I pray to our Lord and Savior Adolph Rupp this isn’t true. I realize that Allen Fieldhouse is a much better arena for goaltending big men with slow footwork and no post moves, but surely Daniel Orton wouldn’t stab Big Blue Nation in the back by admitting he regrets coming to Lexington. Would he?
Whether it’s true or not, I don’t believe this recent postseason fallout with UK fans is a reason to turn on Daniel. But you won’t catch me lining up to buy his jersey, either.
Discuss and tune in tomorrow night to see where D.O. and the rest of the Cats end up.
