Orlando welcomes DeAndre Liggins

liggins-magic

The Magic introduced DeAndre Liggins and Justin Harper to the Orlando media today. Magic GM Otis Smith and Stan Van Gundy had very good things to say about DeAndre and both men seem genuinely excited about their pick. Smith said he didn’t expect Liggins to be on the board and that they were very lucky to pick both him and Justin Harper.

Stan Van Gundy raved about Liggins’ work ethic and maturity. Van Gundy said he knew he was getting a solid defender in DeAndre, but DeAndre shot the ball much, much better in his three workouts than what he was led to believe.

“I didn’t expect to be picked at 53”

Did you honestly believe that you were a first round pick? I think we all liked Liggins as a player and wished we could have had him back for another year, but this was a classic case of a player thinking he was better than he really was.

#4. I think he meant he didnt think he would be picked as high as 53. if he did mean what you think.. there is nothing wrong with him having high expectations. also… there were 20 picks in front of him in second round.. so your first round comment isnt quite accurate.

Don’t you guys think it’s almost better to go undrafted than to go in the second round? Gives you more options and opportunities to make a team. If you go drafted in the second round you are basically stuck trying to make the one team that drafted you, but with no guarantee. Then if you don’t make it, you are behind the eight ball with all the other teams.

On the other hand, I do understand that if a team drafts you, they probably genuinely expect you to make the roster.

    Just giving a different perspective.

11- haha exactly what I was thinking. love Liggins to death but he really isn’t a great speaker. He called Stan van Gundy “Stan.” he also said “it’s a pleasance to be here.” Just goes to show how good of a trash talker he is though.. GL LIGGINS.

Operation win is a joke. Pay no mind to UK football. What many people haven’t said is Charlie Strong had a top 25 recruiting class which was a lot higher than UK’s.

Second round is great this year since no competition from summer league players he is likely to make roster unless season is cancelled.
