Orlando Antigua watches Dominique Hawkins of Madison Central

Why? Just based on who he’s being recruited by, there’s no way he’d be a backup upgrade over Harrow followed by Polson.

Get a couple to try, no need to go through the problems we have had this year. This year may work out—-may—However, if they do not have potential, then let them go elsewhere. We need potential, not white boy bench setters either. Think Coach Cal now finally sees the importance of building a team with a couple of left overs from previous teams. Send lead foot KW back to where ever, he is a waste of time–sad part we need him this year.

    1. I think Orlando Antigua is trying to build some relationships of his own in preparation for a move to a head coaching job. These are likely the kinds of kids he will start out getting.

And as much as we’d like to keep him, if we want him as our next HC someday when Cal gets too tired, he needs experience.

  6. what?
    3:32 pm February 24, 2013 Permalink

#5 Did you just suggest Orlando Antigua as next HC at UK after Cal? REALLY? Exactly who would want that? Antigua is a great assistant coach. He relates well to players, teaches the game, recruits well. He’d be a great HC. Just not at KY. Not yet. Think Joker Phillips. You want a career assistant coach to step into the HC job at UK for his first job? Not gonna happen. Antigua would have to go mid major, then high major elsewhere to prove he could handle the rigors of the UK job. Don’t worry, UK could name its coach from dozens of possibles (as long as we are clean with the NCAA).

A guy named Mack was recruited by Butler, but what did he ever do? It is amazing what a Kentucky kid can do with an opportunity and a few years of experience…..just ask the unforgettables.

uh #4 I can’t really tell what you point you are trying to make, but seems to be something to do with white boys not measuring up. You do realize Dominique Hawkins is not white? see picture above.

#4-“White Boy Bench Setters”? What does that mean? Aside from that you are a Moron.

#4- You said one true thing: there is nothing wrong with getting players that are not considered one-and-done in order to build depth/bench. However, the rest of your post about “white boy bench setters” (I think you meant sitters, not dogs) and your attack on Wiltjer is pretty lame and a bit racist. Kyle is good offensive player and is getting better on D. Why attack him?

I graduated with Marquis at Madison Central. I have watched this kid several times and he would be a solid addition to our team. Sure we have tons of talent coming in next year, but this is a kid that can give minutes down the road. He’s way better than Polson and is a lot physically stronger than Harrow. It would be nice having the two best players in the state in him and Willis. Everybody was upset when Tubby passed on Lofton. Think of Hawkins like that. I am in no way stating he is better than Lofton and we are definitely not hurting in terms of bringing in top talent like Tubby days, but the kid can play and having solid in state kids is good for the program. Look at some of the walk-ons and even Hood. They don’t log any minutes. This kid is better than all of them and could get some minutes and become solid contributor down road. Polson gets minutes because he plays hard and works hard. This kid does that and is more talented. Pitino offered him a walkon spot with chance for scholarship the next year. He’s a good player.

“based on who is recruiting him” Well 2 of those are Ovc schools and Murray has 1 of the best pg in the country and no big school recruited him and he will be drafted ahead of harrow and polson

I’m perfectly fine with having recruits who need to be developed & are willing to stick around for 3-4 years. Just a bonus if they are Kentucky kids. They typically have the heart of a wildcat– more likely to know the tradition, history, passion & pride of UK basketball. If Cal considers this guy’s talents worthy, then I’ll trust his judgement to evaluate him and whether or not to extend an offer to him.

Geez, the same people who bitch about us having only one & done kids are the same who bitch about recruiting guys who only have offers from lower tier D1 schools. And seriously, bashing Kyle? Get over yourself. He’s continuing to improve and played extremely valuable minutes on the team that brought a national championship home to UK. It’s ok to have some veterans on the floor who continue to play better & better and will be role players by the time they are seniors.

    6. I said someday, like in the distant future. That’s why Orlando needs to go to a nice mid major, which means he will need relationships with mid major kids. I want to avoid the Joker experience by maybe letting him spread his wings.

    4:20 pm February 24, 2013 Permalink

I’ve seen this guy play for the past 2 years and he’s a player, he dropped 33 on the Harrison twins. They got him listed at 6’1 but his wingspan make him look like he’s 6’6. He couldn’t help us much next year but down the line he could

Hawkins contacted uofl a couple weeks ago and asked uofl to recruit him. He said he would be willing to walk-on there for a year and then earn a scholly. He has also been seen around town wearing uofl gear.

I would like to see us get some big guys with potential who may take 3 or 4 years to develop. Seems like we have way too may guards already especially point guards. Harrison, Harrow and Polson. Unless Cal thinks Polson or Harrow is going to transfer.

Looks like Cal might be changing his recruiting philosophy. We need more quality veteran players to go along with the 1 & done’s. Hawkins can play!

    11) You guys speak of Polson like he was a bench player in high school. Polson was a very good high school player who scored 50 points a couple of times. Was he UK material, no but he had some skills to build on.
I wonder how much his success has had on recruiting other kids to walk on. There is nothing wrong with offering the better kids from Kentucky a chance to walk on. The worst that could happen is they ride the bench for 4 years. Hell even Tod is proving his self worthy of his spot!

#6) if you read what 5 said, he is saying we need to get Coach O some HC experience so he can be our next coach. Who would want that! I don’t know only about 75% of BBN. That is, if he gets a HC job a proves his worth. No body wants anther situation like Joker was in. Barnhart needes to take a page from CM Newton and start grooming the next guy now so we are ready if coach moves on. Every job Tubby and Billy D got prior to Tubby taking UK was done with the aid of CM. he groomed these guys for yeas so they would be ready!

He’d be higher rated if MCHS were able to get out of the state and play against more distinguished teams. Every time he plays against elite competition in the state he’s typically the best player on the floor. The summer going into his junior year he lead The Ville AAU team to the finals in the Adidas tourney in Indy; that lost by 5 to a good team out of NY. He gave the 2013 #1 PG and #1 SG all they wanted. He fits into Cals offense. Physical point guard that has a variety of shots inside of 15 feet and can play above the rim as well. I hope UK takes a serious look at having him come on.

I heard some people say Cal got Willis away from pitino just to show him he could. Lol.. nothing different here. Move along loserville, Cal has laid claim to yet another one…lol Go Cats!

About time we RECRUIT a kid that might stay over a year! Major part of our problem this year. And to get a Kentucky kid that plays for the front of the jersey over the back is a solid sale for me…..

  42. I know the kid
    9:33 am February 25, 2013 Permalink

I know this kid. My wife is a cheerleading coach at Madison Central and we are great friends with the Feldhaus family.

He DOES NOT want to go to UofL. Pitino wants him to walk on there then give him a scholly in 2015. He doesn’t like Louisville at all and stated he will go to WKU over UL. BUT, he wants to play at KY.

This kid put up 30 something against the Harrison Twins and he can straight ball. I think he would be a great asset to our team and our future. Not to mention he is a good kid. I hope UK offers him because he told us he doesnt want to walk on.
