Ole Miss wins, Kentucky clinches the #2 seed in the SEC Tournament

Ole Miss gave a helpful push for Kentucky to clinch the #2 seed in next week’s SEC Tournament. Although the muck of the SEC season has caused for a confusing bracket breakdown, between the win over Florida, and Ole Miss’ win over LSU (81-67), the consensus is that Kentucky will be the #2 seed in Nashville and face the winner of the 7/10 match-up. Kentucky will also benefit from a double-bye.

Kentucky’s opening game will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night. Stay tuned for the rest of today’s SEC results. We will update you on Kentucky’s road in the SEC tournament as the results roll in…

*IF the results hold as they do now, Kentucky would play the winner of the Arkansas/Vandy game. Kentucky would also be on the opposite side of the bracket from both Florida and Missouri. Again, that’s “IF” things hold…

I’m more interested in who gets the #4 seeds if both the Vols and Bama wins today. And my wallet hopes that the Vols stay out of UK’s session on Friday night! 🙂

Dave Baker on the SEC Network just said if Alabama wins they get the #2 seed…

he’s wrong. Bama can get NO HIGHER than the #4. So now I hope Bama loses and UT gets the #4 seed.

If Alabama wins we will be the #3. They will have the same conference record at 12-6 and they have the tie breaker over us.

I’m so confused. I’ve seen tweets from about 5 difference SEC beat guys, and they ALL are saying something different.

I almost hope we are in the same bracket as Mizzou. I loss to them would not KILL us, but a win would cement us in. Whereas if we lose to Bama, that’s another bad loss.

    From the SEC website

    2. Three-Team Tie (or more). When three or more teams are tied, the following procedure
will be used in the following order until the tie is broken. If two teams remain tied after a
tiebreaker provision, the two-team tiebreaker formula will be used.
    A. Best winning percentage of games played among the tied teams (Example: Team
    A is 3-1, Team B is 2-2 and Team C is 1-3 – – Team A would be seeded highest,
Team B second-highest and Team C lowest of the three).
    B. Best winning percentage of the tied teams versus the No. 1 seed (and proceeding
through the No. 12 seed, if necessary).
    C. If two teams remain, coin flip by the Commissioner.
    D. If three or more teams remain, draw by the Commissioner.

How does Ole Miss win help us ………. They are now tied with us and LSU is no where in the running……..

Too many variables right now. TT had a good post (maybe yesterday) that covered all the scenarios.

That means even if Alabama wins we would be in a 3 way tie with Ole Miss and Alabama. Each of the tied teams have a 1-1 record against each other (criteria A). It would then move to criteria B starting with the #1 seed Florida. With our win we are the only one of the three with a win over FL and therefore get the #2 seed. All others are just wrong, do not listen to them!

OLE Miss has tie-breaker against Bama… UK over OleMiss… UK gets #2 seed no matter if Bama has it over UK… All have a 12-6 conf record

  13. B-man

#9…because if Ole Miss wins, there’s at least a 3 way tie for 2nd place. If it comes down to just UK and Bama…Bama gets the 2 seed cuz they beat UK.

8, All three are 1-1 vs each other but UK is the only team to beat the one seed so we are 2 seed

And by the way, if Missouri happens to win too and create a four way tie, we win under criteria A as we have the best record (winning %) among the games those teams have played against each other Kentucky (2-1), Missouri (2-2), Ole Miss(2-2), Alabama (1-2)

If Ole miss had of lost they would be 1 game behind so they had no bearing on us until they won !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We would be better off if they lost !!!!!!!!!!

Unless you are talking NCAA tourney we didn’t need Ole Miss to lose. For the SEC tourney it is nothing but a good thing.

Cats, just WIN the SEC tourney and make everyone just STFU.

I’M_confused: relax bud. UK is the #2 seed because of the tiebreakers. If Ole Miss had not won, we would have potentially lost the tiebreaker to Bama. Because Ole Miss joined UK in the teams tied for the 2 seed, we are locked in at #2. Doesn’t matter what Alabama does. Read the link below and take a deep breath.

I am so proud of how Uk “as a team” played today. That is what the fans want to see. If you give it all your heart and play with passion, fans will love this team regardless if they win or lose. But, if they play this way, this team is going to win more games. I just wanted to say “thank you” to all the players for playing with “heart and passion” and representing UK and the BBN!!!!! A big “thank you” to Coach Cal for not giving up on this team!!!
