Ole Miss wants in on Darius West

Four-star safety from Ohio, Darius West has been a near-lock for Kentucky for weeks. The 6-foot, 196 pound bruising defensive back has been high on Wildcats ever since Mark Stoops arrived in Lexington. West is ranked 13th at his position nationally, and holds offers from Penn State, Louisville, Illinois, and West Virginia, among many others.

But the race is not over yet. Saturday, Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss extended a scholarship offer to West, sending a ripple into his plan to commit on May 30. West told ESPN he could take an official visit to Ole Miss before his commitment date, at this point still set for the end of the month.

He had narrowed his list to Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, and Wisconsin. We will have to wait and see what impact Ole Miss has on his final four. Getting into the recruiting game so late cannot be a good look.

Would hate to miss out on this kid. Him and McWilson could be the best safety tandem in the SEC by the time they go pro.

Remember Ole Miss had the top recruiting class last year. They are on the rise as well. At least we are in the conversation on these recruits and with this one in particular… West is still a heavy UK lean. I’m hoping he holds firm on the May 30th date.

Getting late in recruiting game doesn’t matter, who would have thought Kansas would have gotten Andrew Wiggins? I really believed he was Kentucky all the way! I am still bent over that

Thanks Dustin, still impressive for Ole Miss standards. I believe the chips are going to start to fall now that schools are finishing up and kids are planning visits. It’s incredible the level of talent that is giving serious looks at UK now; especially at WR.

I really hope we get West, McWilson, Kief, & Berrios soon!!! What would that put our class ranking up to if we did?

Anyone else see the 30 for 30 show on SMU? They came from no where and all of a sudden started signing all these studs. Kind of sounds like the current situation at Ole Miss. I doubt seriously that all of a sudden all the top players in the US are interested in an also ran SEC team that has very little football tradition.

Ole Miss appears to have deep pockets right now. Their rapid improvement in recruiting last year just seems a little shady to me.

10, Cats already got McWilson. he signed his LOI in Febuary and will be on campus here pretty soon. He was part of the 2013 class. Mike Edwards is propbably the other 4-star Ohio DB you’re thinking of.

Ole Miss is the exact model that Kentucky needs to follow. Big young coach specializing in air raid and recruiting. However I don’t believe Kentucky can sign 3 players at the top of their position (Ole Miss has #1 DE, WR, OT) all 3 of whom are five stars. So kentucky needs to be exactly like Ole Miss but they probably can’t even do that.

Rumor around here is a guy from Bay Springs, MS named Jamie Holder is helping Ole Miss to persuade players by any Mean$ necessary to play for the Rebels.
