Ole Miss downs Florida 66-63 for third SEC Tournament Championship

The Marshall Henderson show rolls on in Nashville. After trailing 38-26 at the half the Rebels stormed out of the gate to capture their third SEC tournament title in school history. Henderson and big man Murphy Holloway torched the Gators for 44 points as they scored and taunted at will. It’s the first title for Ole Miss in 32 years.

Florida has now lost 4 of their last 9 and has not won a game that was decided by 10 points or less. So if the Gators aren’t able to blow anybody out in the tournament they could be trouble.

Ole Miss is now in the tournament which takes another spot away from our Kentucky Wildcats. Now we have several teams fighting for even fewer spots.

Thoughts on Henderson leading the Rebs to SEC glory?

Ole Miss winning was the nail in our coffin, no way Kentucky makes it in, too few spots left. Good for Ole Miss, they played hard and did what they had to in order to make it to the dance. Had a few of our guys learned this lesson we wouldn’t be in the position we’re in today.

Since Cal likes to give to charity (where everyone can see and pat him on the back), will he donate his 6 million dollar salary? He has 5 all-americans on this team, plus Stein. He [email protected] his pants this year. Cal would have lost 16 or 17 games if he played in a real league.

I’d rather a passionate tool like Henderson go to the dance and appreciate it than our lackluster, disinterested bunch. Our kids need to learn a few life lessons, and learning once and for all that they won’t succeed on their names alone will only help serve as a true humbler. With their comments after the Vandy game it seemed they thought they deserved to be in based on talent and who they are. This will open their eyes and when they come back next year (because they can’t all leave, not even Cal thinks so) they will hopefully be more malleable and ready to lead. Plus Cal will have his object lesson.

@7, Yes we are going too have an ungodly amount of talent next season. But guess what this team, was still the number 1 class in the country. Lost one defensivley important player but the team was medicore with him .But you still had Poythress,Goodwin,Wiltjer three mcdonalds all americans. And two of those with Stein, are suppose to be first round nba players.

Cal, still had more talent than any other team especially within conference, so no he shouldn’t be praised next season for a turn around. How can this next group be as bad as this one, it won’t. Because Cal, will not have to do something he had to do this year. “COACH” a team all the way through . Well it showed he needs the best of the best.

    34. 2011 Final Four team. The only first rounder was Brandon Knight. Jones and Lamb needed another year. Josh Harrellson led the team on heart. He definitely did not have the best of the best. That was Ohio State, whom we beat. Cal needs guys that are willing to learn and listen. These guys he got bought into their own hype and he couldn’t get them back to Earth. He might not be the best game plan coach, but he is a heck of a practice coach with guys who are willing to work hard. The amount of time this group spent in the gym on their own tells the story.

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard! By all accounts (players and coaches) these players were coached hard, did one on one workouts with coaches and never bought in. They never bought in to how hard you have to work to be successful at this level. Look at the bench, it’s not like we had players to put these guys on the bench if they didn’t perform. Say whatever you want but Cal isn’t the problem. Lets see what Louisville fans about Pitino when they don’t win the championship (their best opportunity) this year… Laugh now, but next years group has the right attitude, we have weapons at each position, and most importantly we have a PG!

8- the majority of the money and time Cal donates to charity is never publicized and intentionally so because Cal does not seek or want any “praise” or “recognition”; if it were up to Cal, none of it would be known. But since he is in such a fishbowl, with all eyes on him…sometimes the media does grab hold of it…

This team just just didn’t have “IT” for whatever reason … I believe a lack of mental toughness has been obvious all year. Good enough talent but several of these KIDS need to forgo the draft and work on their skills, bodies and mentality, then come back next year (and possibly the year after that too) ready to battle. Since when was 2-3 years college before NBA a bad thing if you weren’t ready after one year. Anyone who says Cal can’t coach is clueless. Sometimes even the most talented freshman KIDS need a few years to grow and develop their games.
And besides … Football season is only 5 months away!!!! GO CATS!!!!

    66) I understand that but fans will whine and moan regardless… This season has been disappointing, the players’ performance has been mediocre at best. But what’s the point of being bitter. We won the championship last year for God’s sake. We had a ton of challenges this year and cal made some mistakes in recruiting… Lets just move on, focus on getting Julius Randle on the 20th. Let Louisville (who hasn’t won a championship since I was 10 yrs old) and Indiana (Wikipedia doesn’t even have record of their last championship) talk and have fun. We have a bright future. Lets get ready for UK/BBN domination next year. SN: Cal told everyone that we weren’t a top 5 team and we would struggle. We see those 5-stars and forget that they still have to work. I can see if Cal said, we are the best and we will repeat. My expectations were low, that’s why I’m not about to jump off the deep end.

    67. Because they showed heart. The problem with this team was they didn’t show consistent heart. Many of their losses were more than double digits.

And in March, it is survive and advance. Know who was booted in the first round that year? Louisville. I’m sure they would have loved a last second layup to win against Morehead. It doesn’t matter how close the W is as long as it’s a W, and Cal got it done that year quite well and unexpectedly. He didn’t win it all, but that group overachieved.

Being just a little older than them, I absolutely can blame them for certain things. Like the time spent in the gym on their own. Cal has said these guys didn’t love the gym like last year’s team. Talent has to work, and these guys did not give 100 percent all the time. If they had, the losses would have been competitive.

    71. Xs and Os wouldn’t have helped this crew. He’s moderate at Xs and Os, but to say he rolls the ball out is inaccurate. He is a great practice coach with tough guys. He works better with Harrellsons, not Harrows. Harrow isn’t a bad kid, but he’s too sensitive for Cal.

I’m glad the Ole Miss rebels/black bears are in. Let KY die in the NIT. I don’t want to go to the NCAA and be embarrassed. KY is not good this year. KY will be good next year. Go WKU and SEC! (and Cats!)

Remind me how many National Championships that Dwight Schrute, er, Tom Crean has? How many Final Fours has he made it to without riding D-Wade? IU just got beat by double digits yesterday. Can we at least have a relevant team that has a shot at actually winning the title talk $hit here?

The way I see it, only 1 team is happy at the end of the season… Just getting there (Louisville) means nothing unless you win. So sure our bubble may pop but you guys aren’t going to win either. So we are in the same boat. Unless you win it all, we all are losers!!! Lol

Wiltjer and Willis. The ONLY reason he got Willis was to irritate Pitino. 2 White guys in 5 recruiting classes!!! Ha… I don’t care if they are what color they are, as long as they play with heart and pride!!!!!

I find it funny when IU and UL fans refer to UK fans as hillbillies. Unless I’ve missed out on something, the city of Louisville and the state of Indiana are not, and never will be, paragons of culture. Hey IU/UL fans: paragon means “something real good.”

Well the Cats are in. I say we don’t support them though. Don’t tweet about them, don’t travel to game, and don’t watch them on tv. We can’t reward this bunch with out attention.

NCAA really sucks, UK doesn’t deserve to be in!

Ole Miss is the only team I’ll go for in the tournament because we already beat them, Marshall Henderson respects us, and he puts on a good show.

Oh for Christ’s sake – they are a bunch of 18-year-old kids. “I say we dont support them. Don’t travel to the game”. SHUT UP! They don’t OWE you anything. If you don’t want to travel or support them, don’t. And if you don’t – you’re not a fan. You are a bandwaggoner that jumps on to celebrate during the good times and throw rocks during the bad times.

And all the dipshitz out there saying they hope this year’s players move on or transfer need to remember that we only started three freshman last year …. no matter how good next year’s freshman are we will need WCS Goodwin Poythress Kyle and Ryan to be the team everyone is hoping for…. and football season is only 5 months away!!! GO CATS! !!

I guess we need to pull for Western Ky and UofL. Lets keep it in state. If UofL doesn’t win it I’d like to see Miami win it. I love watching them play. Larkin is really good. I think it will be someone no one expects to win it, win it all. VCU, Wisconsin,Miami. There will be no Duke, Kansas, North Carolina,UCLA. None of the big boys this year.

Henderson is a SENIOR. He has heart and I love him. He plays like he cares. He obviously was not a 10 ten pick coming out of college, but you cannot measure heart on a star system. Look at Chuck Hayes or Randall Cobb. Would you have traded them for anyone.

I hate arrogance in any form but I have to say I was really glad for Ole Miss. I thought they did work really hard and deserved the victory. Didn’t really care for Henderson’s antics but hey can’t really blame the guy. 32 years is a long time. My hats off to them. I’m for every team that plays Louisville. I really hope theyblow it and don’t win.
