Ole Miss Coach Shows Fighting Spirit, Mississippi Values

I don’t mean to Jones’d Beisner’s awesome expose in the wild life of Rob Bromley. But you must be made aware of this:

Cincinnati Police say 40 year old Andy Kennedy punched 25 year old cab driver Jiddou Mohammed Ould in the face with a closed fist while shouting racial slurs. The assault happened in the 500 block of Walnut Street in Downtown Cincinnati at 1 a.m. The police report states that there was an unrelated witness who saw the incident.

Kennedy is charged with misdemeanor assault. He has a court appearance set for 12:30 today but he will not have to appear if an attorney makes an appearance and enters a written plea on his behalf.

Kennedy was an assistant coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats basketball team from 2001-2005. During the 2005-06 season when he was named interim head coach after Bob Huggins resigned. He lead the Bearcats to a 21-13 record and an NIT appearance that year.

Kennedy is now the head men’s basketball coach for the Ole Miss Rebels. The Rebels play the Louisville tonight here in Cincinnati.

This outta spice up the SEC/Big East Challenge a bit. (Hat tip: Deadspin.

UPDATE: From a reader of “The Big Lead”:

“They just had the cab driver on the radio here. Apparently AK and his crew were kicked out of a bar (The Lodge Bar) in downtown Cincy. The cops were willing to let him go provided he would leave. He got in a cab and asked the driver to pick up a couple of his other friends down the street. When the cab pulled up, there were too many people and AK got pissed when the driver would not cram everyone in…that’s when the punches and name calling started.“
