Offer extended by Stoops to FSU’s Offensive Coordinator James Coley

We learned tonight that Mitch Barnhart told new Kentucky coach Mark Stoops that he will have the financial support to assemble a great coaching staff at Kentucky. The first piece of the puzzle might be falling into place soon. According to sources, Stoops has offered the current Florida State Offensive Coordinator, James Coley, the same position at Kentucky. Coley is considered one of the premier recruiters in the country and would be a great first step for Stoops.

    4) Rumors at RR (and elsewhere) that he’s unhappy with hour Jimbo treats him, not being able to make playcalls.

Including at least one defensive coach said to only be there because of Stoops, there could end up being 2-4 guys from that staff that follow Stoops, and some rumors that Jimbo himself will bail on FSU. If Coley comes, and certainly if Jimbo leaves FSU, a lot of their recruits will likely reconsider. Some will go to other schools they favored, but others could follow Coley, the big time recruiter there.

But who will be DC on the new staff I wonder? Some people are hoping for Shannon.

    6) Popular suggestion on the messageboards, but if Coley is leaving FSU, the thinking is he wants to be the playcaller.

LSU will probably just offer him enough money to make him stay… but a lot of LSU fans

  27. Jason
    10:13 pm November 27, 2012 Permalink

While it’s not a “true” jump, I’m sure there’s a pay increase being offered to him for jumping to UK and he can essentially be the full-time OC. At FSU he’s a glorified OC as Fisher calls the plays and he handles, mainly, some positional coaching duties with the title of OC.

In the end, I’m curious as to what kind of an offense he’d prefer to run (you have to hope it’s some sort of an open offense), but I am quite excited at his recruiting capabilities. I wouldn’t be lying if I didn’t say I wasn’t skeptical about what kind of an offense he’d run, though.

14,18..he doesn’t run the offense at FSU. It’s jimbo fishers offense and jimbo calls the plays. So coley is really only te OC by title. Coming to UK hivea him opportunity to run his O full preform OC duties.

Congrats Barnhart for a job well done! I am thrilled that he was able to get Mark Stoops and possibly Coley. However, it is difficult to understand why Stoops and Coley would both leave an elite program like FSU to take positions at what many consider the one of the worst programs in college football. It just does not feel right. It all seems too easy. Just hope NCAA infractions are not coming down on FSU. I can understand why Stoops might leave for Kentucky, but something doesn’t feel right about the entire thing.

  80. Bart
    11:34 pm November 27, 2012 Permalink

Do your research…..Coley is the “Unofficial” OC, he doesn’t call plays, he is realistically the TE and Recruiting Coordinator. So coming to UK with Stoops would be basically his first bona-fide OC job, at a SEC school nonetheless. Stoops must think highly of him to offer him the job, and man can this guy recruit. He makes Tee Martin look like a used car salesman.

  81. mashburnfan1
    11:36 pm November 27, 2012 Permalink

I don’t like it either but it is not because of Cal. I enjoy the top talent playing here and wish they were here 2,3 or 4 years but that is not what the NCAA says must happen. It would be an easier job for Cal if the players stayed but he encourages them to do what is best for them. When/if the rules change that will just be better for Cal and UK. Until then just keep getting the top class and playing for titles.

  84. It Ain't Just Cal
    11:45 pm November 27, 2012 Permalink

Are y’all completely forgetting what it was like in Bloomington for Cats fans last year?
IU fans love to crow about how Cal only wanted a neutral site so he can preserve his
home win streak. Even if that is partly true, it can’t be denied that IU fans were so out
of control, the game should be on a neutral site for the safety of fans of both teams.
If IU fans had acted as classy and “old school” as they are supposed to be, there would
not have needed to have been a discussion and in fact a demand that the site be
neutral or not at all. IU is not saving college basketball. IU would be doing exactly
what Cal is doing if Tommy Cream could get the recruits. Please don’t delude yourself.

85, lay down our standards? If I recall correctly, UK was going after the best recruits they could attract all the way back during Hall’s days as coach, when I first started watching UK basketball. Remember Bowie, Turpin, Minnefield, et. al.? Sure, they stayed more than one year, but times were different back then – players didn’t commonly move straight on to the NBA. Do you honestly think those same players would hang around in today’s environment? Cal is not the one who created this – he is simply doing what he thinks will give him the best chance to win. You can call it “lowering standards” if you want – the rest of us will call it “rolling with the punches”.

It is not something we are proud of as we do not condone line beards or black and milds, but; our choices are limited and Louisville has tremendous backing. We will have to create a smoking section in every arena conference wide, however; we feel it is in the best interest to include Louisville in this conference

Therefore, St. Oops MUST have a good staff ‘assembled’ or in serious consideration.

Again, IF he had a plan, and Mitch & Couch approved, then do not worry.

Guessing is fun, but the staff must have been done (assembled) – and we’re just waiting to hear.
