Nobody’s Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper

This picture of formerly popular tailgate spots on Cooper Drive was taken at around 2:30 this afternoon by @tshirt_tim.  Eli Capilouto’s ridiculously circuitous plan to get fans to like him after he rescinds the ban is now one quarter complete.

It may help to listen to this while looking at the picture.  Maybe throw in a tumbleweed or two for effect.

If Capilouto manages to improve UK’s academic reputation and standing as a Research University, he may gain favor with the board regardless of what fans of its sports may think of him. All he has to do is replace athletic revenue with research grants and maintain student enrollment while implementing tuition increases and he’s done his job. Sorry, but its true…

I turned down 4 free tickets and a free red lot parking pass for tonight from a fed up regular attendee…

UK Football Accounting 101 – 4 Lower Bowl tickets plus parking pass with an acquired cost approximately $300, less depreciation of being 1-3 with no hope of being any better and no coeds in blue sundresses($300)no scrap value = net book value of $0.

It is so sad that 2 friends have offered me FREE tickets to the game, yet I choose to sit on my couch instead.

Whats disheartening is that TBone is correct. The university of Miami (TheU) not Ohio is currently going through that process. Look at the amount of fans at that once great football school, and does the administration or board care? No. They want to be known for academic reasons. This is what happens when you hire a pure academic administration. For the University of Kentucky, this may be a good trend, but for the large majority of people in the state AND transplanted across this country who put so much emotion into the Athletics, this may prove to be a giant slap in the face.

Now there is a proven record that successful sports teams in football and basketball help to grow enrollment. This is true. However, some administrations see it more fortuitous to not seek that all time class enrollment, but rather a certain “quality of student.”. I can see Capilouto going for this route. Basically, as a proud member of the BBN and fiancé of a proud graduate of the University of Kentucky, I am hoping someone kicks ol Eli in the nuts and he comes to his senses. The school is great already. Hire Petrino, upgrade our facilities, improve the football team, let Cal do his thing and watch that enrollment grow.

From a students stand point, It’s sad to see Capilouto clearly taking any and all fun out of what it means to be a college student. We work hard monday-friday and just want the weekend to relax and make memories. Now our most recent memories of Capilouto is him not canceling a single day of classes to celebrate #8 and now pretty much taking away a football tradition in tailgating. Eli Capilouto is HEARTLESS.

Or maybe it’s nutless, I took French 20 years ago.

    11. Suspending academic obligations to celebrate a schools athletic accomplishments is a clear cut example of one’s lack of priorities. You said it yourself… Monday-Friday work hard. Celebrate on the weekend. Capilouto was right on that one.

He got this one wrong. What students and fans do on Saturdays is none of his concern unless it reflects poorly on the school. If it is the case that he truly looking out for the best interest of the school. This is a non-academic related decision and I see little benefit towards other non-sports related initiatives.

I was offered a free ticket, free ride to the game, all the ribs and wings I could eat, and I am sitting on my couch watching good football. Until we change styles of play (i.e. Baylor/WVU today) what is there to get excited about? I could take losing if it was at least entertaining (the Mumme years were fun!) but I watch us run it up the middle on 3rd and 8, or sometimes we’ll get real creative and throw a screen. Point is, I like many other fans are fed up with this whole situation. The UK president certainly didn’t help the cause either with his actions this week – what a boring old dude he is! Let Calipari be the president of the university too!

Eli Capilouto was embedded in controversy during his time as Provost at UAB. UK fans have only seen the “tip of the iceberg” so to speak as to what he will do to damage UK and its image long term according to our legal experiences at UAB. Your attendance and tailgating issues are just the beginning. Check out some more damaging information by using Google to look up “Legal Schnauzer”, and see what this site reports about fraudulent activity occurring through the UAB Provost office to the tune of more than $600 million dollars during his leadership. Also, the university spent large sums of money to pay for a prominent Washington, D.C. law firm to negotiate a multi-million dollar settlement. The university finally settled with the Department of Justice during the Bush Administration due to criminal activity regarding federal grants and medical billing fraud under Capilouto’s watch. There is much more negative information to this man than the good folks of Kentucky were ever provided. Finally, research the lawsuits regarding faculty and administrators against him currently in the Birmingham, Alabama court system. We are certainly appreciative to the University of Kentucky for taking this major problem away from UAB! South Birmingham has hope now that we had not experienced in several years.
