No clear-cut favorite at quarterback

Max Smith might be taking snaps with the first team when fall camp starts, but that doesn’t mean Smith has a huge advantage over the others to start against Louisville in the season opener. Joker Phillips told reporters today that there is no clear-cut favorite at the quarterback position heading into the season. He said, “It’s the best competition from top to bottom we have.”

Whoever ends up taking the snaps could expect to see some young talent protecting him from the pass rush. Joker also said that some of the incoming freshmen linemen are already as strong as some of Kentucky’s departing seniors.

We’ll have more as he says it…

I hope Joker is feeling desperate, because if he is he will go with Towles. That would be the only reason I would be excited to watch this team if he plays.

Max Smith deserves to start. Period. Morgan Newton already proved to us that he cannot compete in the SEC, he can barely compete against Western Kentucky. It’s worth giving Smith that chance for the season. We should literally expect nothing from Towles, a freshman QB, in the SEC. Our offense isn’t good enough for him to succeed… Yet. So if Smith falters, Newton will surely fall soon after that, and then I fully expect Matt Jones-LaRod King combo to work beautifully. At least we’ll be .500 to start the season…

Max Smith is the only one that looks and acts like a quarterback, Joker is blowing smoke! Give everyone a chance to earn the job on the field but I believe Smith will be the winner!

Obviously, none of our QB’s have distinguished themselves in practice to date. Is 2-10 out of the question?

I take everything Joker says with a grain of salt. He told us last year that newton was getting it before the season started and we seen how that turned out

Maxwell Smith should be our starter. If that doesn’t work out, Patrick Towles should replace him. That’s all there is to it.

“It’s the best competition from top to bottom we have.”

We all know what that means!

This is what makes KY, KY. Every year we have a competition for QB. As everyone saw last year, we Maxwell was 10 times better than Morgan Newton. How is it possible that our QB’s suck so much that we have to have a competition every year. You should know before going in to the season who your QB is going to be unless you have a Stud coming in as a Freshman.
Pick a QB and go with it.

Really not interested in anything Joker has to say after all he said last preseason. Let’s see it on the field.

If Morgan Newton is starting for any reason other than injury to Smith and Towles, I’m out. Won’t be going to another home game. If we totally suck, at least totally suck with the qb of the future getting game experience. Newton is never going to be a winner.

I have been said this before. Morgan Newton will be your starting QB next year. Everyone just needs to accept it.
