New Rutgers AD (former UofL employee) has history of abuse

“Oops.” – Julie Hermann
When you’ve recently fired your AD and basketball coach due to video evidence of player abuse, the next logical step is to hire a new AD who has experience with abuse. However, that step is not so logical if this new AD’s experience is as the perpetrator of such abuse.
In a developing story, it looks like the new Rutgers’ AD has a bit of a past – and not in a good way. While there’s no video evidence (yet), new Rutgers’ AD Julie Hermann is now facing allegations of abuse while at Tennessee. Hermann left her position as assistant AD at the University of Louisville recently to take over at Rutgers and clean up the mess left behind from the Mike Rice dodgeball situation. However, it seems she has a not-so-noble departure in her past.
The Newark Star Ledger is reporting that Hermann quit her job as the Tennessee women’s volleyball coach after her entire team submitted a letter to the coach complaining about Hermann’s emotional abuse, humiliation, and fear. The players wrote, “The mental cruelty that we as a team have suffered is unbearable. […] It has been unanimously decided that this is an irreconcilable issue.” They claim that Hermann called them “whores, alcoholics and learning disabled.”
The players presented Hermann this letter in person. She read their comments, and took the high road coward’s out, saying, “I choose not to coach you guys.”
While hard-headed and “aggressive” coaches permeate the entire sporting world in some fashion due to the nature of the beast, it’s hard to say where one can draw the line. I’ve had some great coaches who were terrifying at times, but I am sure Bobby Knight convinced a lot of his players that his tirades were worthwhile too.
Hermann’s case will be interesting. She was the AD protege of Tom Jurich at Louisville, as some have called her his ‘right hand woman.’ And wouldn’t you know it – Jurich has already stood up for her, as he does for all of his cronies who come under fire: “I’ve never seen anything but impeccable behavior. I knew things didn’t end well, but that happens to a lot of coaches at a lot of places.”
Even Governor Chris Christie has already chimed in: “Listen, I’m as curious as anybody and given my position, I get to ask questions more quickly than others. So I’ll be asking questions and we’ll see what happens.”
Stay tuned to see how Rutgers handles this situation, as player abuse has quickly become a hot topic.

“What we have here, is a failure to communicate”..
I will not try and bash T.J for defending this person. Bottom line people do things in their past, that they later in life regret. She is no different than any athlete that has done bad things. Their are so many examples of these things. And a majority of them go on to have clean careers without further incident. She has been a very explempary asst Ad, so this is what should matter most. The former president of the Inited States had extramarital aFFAIRS WHILE IN THE WHITE HOUSE! And he hasturned out to be glorified by the BBN own Calipari. So let’s nlot throw stones at someone elses house.
She was employed by UL in April and that means their title will be vacated
What in Sam Hill is going on at Rutgers?
BigBluSoTru take your cardinal trolling ass somewhere else.
It is called tough love when it is someone else kid. It is abuse when it is my kid.
2. GTFO, fckn moron
The HR department at Rutgers needs to clean house as well.
This is the second hire that they didn’t vet.
1st – The replacement basketball coach. No college degree even though he claimed he had one on his resume (from Rutgers, no doubt).
2nd – The replacement AD. Who is a past people abuser hired to clean up a program damaged by a people abuser.
This can’t be made up!
3,5 This is why Matt makes so much money off us idiots. Only fools cater to these articles that are written by KSR. If Matt, told us Calipari has never done anything wrong we believe him. Considering Matt at one time bashed Cal while he was at Memphis. LOL I am old but tell it like I see it now. Unbiased
7, Haha you nuts really take offense to this shit!
I can’t believe we hired some Tennessee reject as our AD. BigBluSoTru, would u b interested in the position?
Just UT’s latest contribution to the Keep Sportswriters Working Foundation. In other news, expect Governor Chris Christie (R?)-NJ to ask for federal aid to clean up the Rutgers mess.
Rutgers, please go back to the Big East!
Chris your a pu$$y without the hair.
Fat people have rights also.
My first announcement is that all Students wishing to play sports, will sign a letter stating they will not report any coach that are mistreating them.
Thanks BigBluSoTru, ur a true Fan!
How old are you #14? Are you for real????
Maybe we all should just play a nice game of dodgeball
now #18, dont take it personal chris. I know you cant play no ball.
Did #2, who I assume is a Louisville fan, just try to invoke Bill Clinton against Calipari? The same Bill Clinton who was taking pictures in the locker room with the U of L team on their way to the Championship this year?
And #2, if you’re not a Louisville fan, my bad. But still… link Clinton to Cal WITHOUT linking him to Pitino, who actually did cheat on his wife and was dragged into court because of his crazy ex-mistress? Come on…
those thin lips will make any chick look like a raging bitch.
If a member of the Louisville media had this brought to their attention while she was an employee of the UL athletic department they could not report on it because Tommy Turtleneck would threaten to take away their press credentials. I cannot imagine the things that athletes at UL have gotten away with while he has been there. He has bullied the local media into being an arm of the Sports Information Department. Other than the arenas financial problems when have you seen a negative about the UL athletic department? Been a LONG time.
I’m huge UK basketball fan but have followed Julie’s career at UL bc i played d1 volleyball and thought she was Actually an awesome assist AD. I don’t consider it abuse to make fat players get in shape and punish losses with push ups. No showers after games? Probably terrible losses to bad teams. Do it at your hotel. These winey girls on her TN team in 1990-whatever probably had a terrible record Lets look into that. I’m sick of women athletes demanding equal respect and not holding themselves to equal standards. This isn’t abuse. This is ridiculous.
Do we remember that night at Porcini, well Pitino was told to “LOCKUP” not “KNOCKUP”!
@23- Conspiracy theorists often interpret a lack of evidence for their paranoid beliefs to be confirmation that their beliefs are true. “No bad press about the UofL Athletic Department? That proves that they’re obviously doing something shady!”
The ridiculousness of this type of reasoning probably will be missed by you, but I’m sure your more intelligent friends on KSR will be happy to explain it to you if you have any trouble.
I don’t care! UK blog & all I see mentioned is Rutgers & UL. Don’t give a rat’s ass!
Very relevant to Kentucky Sports. Did they bring out the “D” team for Memorial Day weekend? Get it together. And the Vols players were pansies.
It looks like she’s the whore. Look at that whore mouth. Also, I bet that isn’t her first pearl necklace.
What about the woman that sued the UL athletic department and won a large sum of money?. This wasn’t even covered by the local media until AFTER the trial was over, and then a passing mention. Rick Bozich takes his two weeks of vacation during Rick Pitino’s trial. How convenient. A UL basketball player is arrested, but an assistant coach comes in and takes him out before he is processed and it’s not even mentioned in the local media. Poor Tony Vanetti who is the biggest UL fan around is “persona non-grata” around UL because he dared to criticize them.
