Nerlens Noel taken out of O’Connell Center in a wheelchair

According to Sports Illustrated’s Andy Staples, Nerlens Noel was taken out of the O’Connell Center in a wheelchair.

In the postgame press conference, John Calipari didn’t have much more information other than “We took him to the hospital, we’re going to get him looked at. We don’t know yet.” Cal said the team also gathered after the game to pray for Noel to be okay: “I’m physically sick right now for him. What I’m hoping for is it’s not the extreme. I’m hoping it’s just a twist.”

More updates as we know them.

Terrible thing to happen to such a fine young man (and a pretty good ball player too!)

Did Poythress set the all time UK record for stepping out of bounds on the baseline in a single season?

Prayers go out to Noel. He’s the only player on this team that plays night in and night out. Poythress is the biggest bust UK has ever seen!!!!!! Kyle Wiltjer is scared to death and slow as Christmas!!!! Archie is the turnover king, and he can’t spell defense. I’ve seen enough. This team will be lucky to make the NIT!!!! These players better enjoy the playing time this year, because they won’t play a lick next year!!!!!

If it’s just a bad hyper extension (and not ACL), what’s the timetable for his return?

He was screaming out in pain for a reason…he done some major damage. Makes you think about the “one and done” rule. He should of had the chance to collect a guaranteed million dollar+ check coming out of high school. All these rules are B.S.!

I just feel sick for Nerlens. Of all the kids on this team, he plays his ass off every night and he’s constantly going out of his way to do things for other people.

Prayers from Memphis for a quick recovery for Noel, also prayers for Archie to have a shot and share the basketball, Alex to have a heart, Kyle to become quicker, Ryan to not be afraid of contact, and a bench that helps.

Poythress is the biggest 5* WUSS in america. He is too stupid to realize that he is costing himself and his family many thousands of future dollars because of his pathetic, apathetic play. We have also got to have the worst tamden of overrated guards in america as well. Goodwin is nothing more than an “out of control” trainwreck. This game and this season to date rests sorely on the shoulders of our great coach. He has not developed this team or bench and has not coached anyone up at all. The same would hold true for the complete coaching staff. Cal has got to take the blame for only chasing star ratings and trying to sign studs that other teams want. He has got to be smart enough to know that he needs, heart, passion, guts, and the will to win in these prospects. Does he not really focus on this while he is burning thousands of air miles trying to watch these duds. You heard it correctly…these so called stud recruits are nothing more than duds with exception of NN and possibly WCS. The rest are not really qualified to wear the big blue. Nice knowing you “Top 25”. May you make a respectable showing in the NIT.

If he Noel is out for year, I hate to say it but we are done as well. As for the CINCY fan, I live up close to Cincy Ohio and Bearcat fans hate anything to with UK. Their Jealousy is pathetic.

Yeah, I didn’t see the hyper extension they kept talking about on replays. I just hope it isn’t a fractured patella, which is lingering and can possibly sideline rehab after surgery for a couple months.

Oh, Noel has a sprained or hyper extended knee. 4-8 weeks. Done. He’s great. He will be ok. But might be done . It’s a shame. He will be a good pro.

20 – Poythress’s only mistake was coming to play for Cal. He got bad advice. 95 percent of high school super stars are much better off having the opportunity to gradually acclimate to the college game. Cal rushes these 18-year-old kids and expects them to excel against 22-year-old men.

Poythress will be a fine player – he simply needs time to mature as a person and as a player. But of course – that’s not the Kentucky Effect now is it?

We have no bench – whose fault is that?
The bench we have is inexperienced – whose fault is that? How many games did we win earlier in the season by 20 plus points – but yet guys like Hood still got precious few minutes.

    This is all on Cal.

If that was Harrow who had gotten hurt, he would have been on a stretcher, in a neck brace, attached to an iron lung, with the outgoing Pope reading him his last rites!

    24. You can’t develop a bench and teach your starters to play 40 minutes. By giving the bench a lot of minutes, the starters don’t build up the kind of stamina needed for games, because that kind of stamina is different for practice.

    # 24 what a unrealistic view we need more dumb asses like u so every time we are not a top five team u can get on here and point fingers and vent just change teams every year so u can tell everyone who your favorite team is . we need coach cal a lot more than he needs your sorry ass mouthing , remember coach cal can go anywhere he wants u can only get on here and bitch .

26 – There are plenty of Hall of Fame coaches who would beg to differ with you. Depth is vital. Don’t you wish UK had a viable substitute for Goodwin or a guy who could mentor Poythress or a guy who could step in for an injured Noel?

  28. Rae
    9:51 pm February 12, 2013 Permalink

    24. And these guys don’t want to wait to develop. They want to play coming out of high school. They don’t want to ride the pine just because they are freshmen. That is why Cal gets them. Most of these freshmen thrive off the responsibility. Noel was doing brilliantly. Goodwin and Poythress just need more time, and that is more on the individual than Cal’s system as a whole. For some guys it works. Some it doesn’t. Neither system is all good or all bad. We will have more experience next year and be fine. This year is an anomaly since everyone left, and that doesn’t normally happen even to Cal’s teams.

28 – We’ll see. Let’s revisit this issue in 5 years if Cal is still here.

So now Cal sucks after delivering a final 4 and a title? And now he sucks even though UNC with Williams has down yrs all the time? This team is frustrating as hell but man, give it a rest. On top of that, we have what could be the strongest team in the history of the game starting THIS Fall. Incredible how bad y’all are as fans. Incredible…..

  31. Rae
    9:55 pm February 12, 2013 Permalink

    27. But you sacrifice talent for depth. There is no perfect system. We had experience with Tubby, but not as much talent. Cal chooses the other way.

Again, if Poythress was told he would get maybe 10 minutes a game so he could be “mentored,” he wouldn’t have come to UK.

As sure as the sun rises oldschool is here to post following a UK loss. He’s like a Swiss watch in that he is so predictable even though what he serves up is purely BS. Does Butler have a board?

    29. Look at Cal’s Memphis teams. He had some experience there. He isnt going to have an entirely new starting lineup every year. And look at his recruiting. Willis isn’t a one-and-done. Neither was Wiltjer. WCS is up in the air but we all expected him to come back. Of course they will get lasted for not being as good, but they are supposed to stick around. Poole would have been a major contributor this year.

old school must be a closet fan of another team because no one who has seen joe b , sutton , pitino , tubby , billy g , could intellectually come to the conclusion that calipari is not the hardest working person or uk coach on the court most nights . i hope he is old enough to remember us not getting a top 20 recruit under tubby or billy clyde most years what an embarrasment
