Nerlens Noel Joins Team Lane Goodwin

Many of you know the story of Lane Goodwin, the young man from Kentucky who is battling cancer and is a huge UK fan. An internet campaign has gone on for the past couple of weeks to give “Thumbs Up to Lane”, wishing the young man well and letting him know that people are pulling for him. Hundreds of people, including John Calipari, Jacob Tamme and even Matchbox 20, have sent “thumbs up” pictures to Lane via his Facebook page and on Twitter. And tonight, Nerlens Noel tweeted that he Facetimed with Lane Goodwin to wish him luck. That is a tremendous act by Nerlens, a player who obviously has great talent, but as we have seen since arriving on campus, a great heart as well.

We at KSR all give Lane a Thumbs Up and also a round of applause to the Flat Top.

Lane is from my county. He is a brave young man who has brought hundreds of thousands of people together to pray for common cause. His strength and fight is epic. And all his struggles have showed that there is still good in this world, that people still have good in their hearts. God is working through Lane. He may not provide a miracle to save Lane, but this whole movement is a miracle in itself. God bless you Nerlens and God bless you Lane!! #thumbsupforLane

Everyone wants to talk about the level of talent of the recruits Cal brings in…but, enough cannot be said about their character.

Great character shown here. I’m assuming this is in the lodge. Not to rustle any feathers, but is it a violation to put all of this extremely nice stuff in the Lodge as bribery? I mean they took this gold standard stuff to a new level!!

Truly a class act. Praying for that young man. I seen Nerlens today at Qdoba and he was interacting with a few fans. Didn’t seem to bother him at all to be answering questions.

These young men do a great job of representing the University and the state! Calipari gets it, and he does more than anyone in his position should and could do. The facts are this though, we’ve been battling cancer as a country very long and very hard! And since the 1970s the rate of cancer has tripled! The real and only way to get rid of this self inflicted disease, is to be educated properly on why and how its attacking these poor kids immune systems. And the real way to eliminate it, which is the natural way with what God put on this earth for us. There has always been a cure, in fact a cure is done by finding out the source of the disease instead of a cure itself. Prevention is a major factor! If you are open minded and do not buy into the whole propaganda of the pharmaceutical companies. Which makes its money from the disease itself and would go bankrupt if a cure was found. Give these links here a shot and take them seriously, because there is a war out there going on! One that is a silent killer and one that we have no idea about. Its disinformation to its best, and the only way to defeat it is to rise up against it! Trust me Ive seen first hand what cancer treatment can do to a person. Its very criminal and very sad! All I want is for this horrible disease to be stopped in its tracks. Just think one day you or a loved one close to you could need this information…

Like all the classes Cal has brought in at UK, this current crop of young men seem to be endowed with great character to go along with their talent on the court. Nerlens seems to be genuinely enjoying being on campus at UK, which is great to see. As Cal has said, it takes a certain type of player to thrive in the fishbowl that is UK basketball. Give Cal credit for having a keen eye to identify these kids and to get them to want to play for UK. Sure wish we could find a football coach who could do the same.

#15, unfortunately many of the “advances” of modern society are behind the large increase in the number of cancer cases appearing in the world. There are so many chemicals being added to our food, water, air, and even the containers that hold them that it is no wonder that the number of cancer cases has gone up so much. Yes, there is something to be said about getting as much of our nourishment as possible from natural sources, but it is just not very practical for most of us to get ALL of our nutrition from such sources, or to avoid exposure to all of the possible carcinogens out there. The best solution I can think of is to try to make smart decisions whenever the chance presents itself, and to take your own individual health seriously. In regards to treating cancer, I think a lot of the holistic approaches can be combined with some of the more traditional treatments to give oneself the best chance of beating the disease. You have to become educated about the disease if you are ever diagnosed, and do your own research and get several opinions from major research institutions instead of just accepting what is spoon-fed locally. I do agree that some of the lasting side-effects from some of the treatments can almost be as bad as the disease itself – especially radiation.

Oh yeah – support St Baldrick’s on St Patty’s day next year!
