Nerlens Noel chimes in on Kyle Wiltjer

Even in the wake of potentially being the number one pick in tomorrow night’s NBA Draft, Nerlens Noel couldn’t avoid being asked about the likely departure of his former Kentucky teammate Kyle Wiltjer. Noel chimed in with his opinion in support of Wiltjer, “He wants to go somewhere where he’s the focal point of the team. That’s definitely understandable.” Noel shared that information with Adam Zagoria, as well as a few updates on his pre-draft health status.

Noel now says he weighs 217 lbs. but wants to “put on weight gradually.” Noel also says he expects to be ready in October, but more likely by November.

Focal point of a team, but can’t play defense or create his own shot? So he will play for a team that only shoots 3s? I played on a team just like that, the Junior Hornets 8th grade team. We won every game! Hope it works out for slim shady.

You know, at first Kyle’s decision was really no big deal to me, and I go it…but the more I hear he wants to be the “focal point” of a team, the more I’m wondering why he committed here in the first place, and I’m starting to question his work ethic. I like the kid, I think he would have a role on this year’s team…a small one, a certainly not a “focal point”, but a role none the less. Or, he could have redshirted and worked on that “work ethic” part, and prepared himself like he needs to. But the more I hear that “focal point” stuff, the more I question the kid.

3)& 10) I don’t think it’s a good idea to disparage a kid that’s leaving. Be glad we had him as long as we did, and wish him well. Big Blue will be fine.
