Nerlens is still No. 1 on Chad Ford’s Big Board

Clay Jackson/cjackson@amnews.com

Hungry for some Nerlens Noel news? Of course you are. You love Nerlens. I love Nerlens. We all love Nerlens. That being the case, here ya go: NBA guru Chad Ford’s latest Big Board is out, and our boy is still holding on to the top spot. Not too shabby for a dude that hasn’t played basketball for two months, right? Right.

So, how exactly does one go about being the likely top pick in the draft, despite suffering a career-threatening injury and watching the NCAA tournament from the couch? Wait for every other top prospect to choke, apparently. Ford doesn’t name names, but you don’t need a press pass from the Worldwide Leader to recognize that players like Marcus Smart and Ben McLemore have seemingly gone out of their way to give teams around the league second thoughts about taking them No. 1 overall. Meanwhile, Nerlens has quietly gone about his rehab, and scouts and GM’s have reminded themselves why they fell in love with him in the first place.

Here’s what Ford had to say about the big fella:

For those keeping track at home, if Nerlens ends up being the first to shake David Stern’s hand in June, he’ll be the 4th John Calipari-coached top pick in the last 6 drafts. What did they call Coach Taylor in the last season of Friday Night Lights? Oh yeah… The Kingmaker.

Sounds about right.

Please….put the AP problem behind us and remove from the team. He is being given too much control over this situation, and he didn’t really show that he wanted to play for us past year. He is an uncoachable misfit.

Looking at the comments for the Tolly Ho competition, the other schools are claiming that there’s been some cheating going on because they don’t understand the power KSR has, or BBN when it comes to showing our pride. They are now ganging up against UK in the competition. I know this is only a food competition, but it’s still Marquette, and a dish that not even the Marquette students like (based on the comments). Follow this link and vote for Tolly Ho, we are currently losing.

Nerlens you deserve it. We will miss you but enjoy the 1 spot, and here’s a toast to the effort and leadership you provided last year. Without you the entire season would have been a bust.
