Nerlens is courting Anthony Bennett

Stare directly into the fade, Anthony…

With the UK logo still fresh in his hair, Nerlens Noel is doing his part to fill the void left by last season’s starters Last night, Jason Jordan, ESPN’s High School Editor, tweeted that Nerlens told him that he’s actively recruiting Kentucky’s new prime target, Anthony Bennett, and that he thinks the chances at him becoming a Cat are pretty good:

I knew this kid was gold.

If I’m not mistaken, and we all know I never am, this is most likely a recruiting violation. Watch for the hammer, Kentucky.

#5 – How? There are 2 guards on the roster if I’m not mistaken. This isn’t a top 15 team.

I honestly don’t see how anyone can look at this team and see Final Four.

Glad he is working hard at making the team better already. Very good sign not going to be a selfish player. I’d still like to see that UK has his LOI in hand before I feel real comfortable with his commitment.

    8. If Harrow turns out to be what Cal brought him in for, and Twany can step up to help with D. Then you have 4 guards with Hood. Plus, who is to say Alex can play a little 2. Remember the DDMO, we don’t have to have 2 guards 2 forwards and a center. We will be dangerous if we get Alex, Kyle, and Jon shooting well. Plus throw in Archie and Ryan driving and throwing it up for Nerlens. We may not be top 5 (yet), but this team is top 10.

    9. we will not get a LOI. No point in it for him. He will sign financial aid papers and then just show up. that way if Cal goes to the NBA he can back out without problems. (Wall & Knight did the same thing).

#8 – College basketball will not be very good next year. Besides IU, maybe UL, maybe UF, and maybe 1 or 2 other teams, there isnt a team as talented as UK will have next year (Especially if they get Bennett). I dont think a lot of people realize how good Poythress and Bennett are. Could they get dropped in the sweet 16? Sure. Would i be surprised to see them in the Final 4 – Not really. Still way too early to know. Bottom line though. College basketball is DOWN

    1-Harrow
    2-goodwin
    3-Poythress
    4- Bennett/Wiltjer
    5-Nerlins
Talent wins games, I see your point but this is just another one of cals talented teams.

    8) It would give us the most talented front court in the country. If Hood/Beckham can play a few solid minutes it will be a very good team.

1 Harrow 2 Goodwin 3 Poythress 4 Bennett 5 Noel then beckham hood wiltjer Cauley off the bench, looks good to me. Harrow is a very good player.

    8. Do you see a Final Four for any other team in college basketball? Kentucky may be down from this last season, but so will everyone else. What do you expect?

    8. Didn’t we technically only have 2 guards last year too?? (Teague and lamb) hmmmmm

In my opinion, i honestly believe we snag Bennett sooner than later, than a Troy Williams commitment soon there after for the 2013 Class. This will give us our 5 freshman Nerlens, Bennett, Goodwin, Poythress, and Cauley-Stein and Harrow and Wiltjer included in a 7-Man rotation like last year. If we snag a JUCO Guard that can shoot the 3 or a transfer eligible to play immediately we will be fine. Throw in an improving Beckham and a hopeful breakout Darnell Dodson-like season out of Hood, I think we have a pretty damn good team. A deeper bench with more skill than last year with the exception of Miller, and a possibly stronger frontcourt in Nerlens, Bennett, and Poythress, and a possibly more athletic backcourt, we could be fantastic next year. Many people underestimate us, but we might be pretty damn good with or without Bennett

#14 – right, CBB is down. But even with Bennett this may be a top 15 team. No one in that group has any kind of jump shot.

#18 – yeah, I mean there are loads of teams that didn’t lose 98 percent of their scoring and will be good next year. To have high expectations for this team right now…well, there’s no backcourt depth really (and none coming it seems) and Twany isn’t the answer. I just hope we don’t hype this group against unrealistic expectations.

#17 Of that group, Hood is the key. Beckham couldn’t produce at Miss St., Cauley will be a 8-10 minute guy. I sure hope there is a combo guard available out there.

Don’t get me wrong about this team; they can be really good. But to see these rankings and “#9” talk is way premature.

Let’s all just lower our expectations for next year. We are coming off a natty champ season. That way if we stay in the top 15-20 we will still be happy. I’ll be happy hovering anywhere around the top 25 area. Especially knowing it’s all gonna get better the next year.

#22 – Wiltjer is a great shooter as we know, and Anthony Bennett is a damn good shooter for a big guy. Poythress has range too. Thats enough shooters for me with the athleticism of this team and defense that Cal will demand.

College basketball will be down next year. Duke and UNC are going to have a lot of growing pains, and they are ranked in the teens, (UNC might be ranked top 10 at the moment,) and those two are lucky to be where they are! When NC State is the ACC pick to win it, it’s a down year. They’re talented, but they are talented at the right time too. Big East will be down, with Cuse and Pitt leaving, they will get even worse in years to come.
That being said, We will likely be the most talented team in the nation, even if we don’t get Bennett, (which I hope we do).
I mean…IU and U of L are going to be ranked top five?!?! Maybe top 3?!?! U of Hell will not scare ANYone most nights, and IU still needs to learn how to win on the road. They aren’t adding THAT much with their “top 10” recruiting class. Their best incoming freshman will be backing up Jordan Hulls.
Our Cats will be just fine. 🙂 Now, Come on Bennett!! Round this class out and let’s hang no. 9!!!!

Wiltjer, Goodwinn and anything we could get from Hood or Beckham should be enough perimeter power to keep defenses honest. Granted, we won’t have a Lamb or Meeks or Knight-type shooter who’s deadly; but Archie Goodwinn can score with the best of them. And Wiltjer will only get better and that is very scary for teams that have to match up with his size on the perimeter.

21, Easy on the Hood bashing. In case you have never watched UK bball, players improve. Remember Mills, Liggins,
Harrison, and too many others to count. Hood was a top 40 player and is athletic with a Big Blue Heart. Time and will can produce amazing things. Playing time or not all of our boys work hard for the team and should be respected.

Let’s be realistic here, WE ARE KENTUCKY, with that comes lofty expectations. Why would we lower those? That is ignorant. We don’t settle for NCAA tournament appearances but we define successful season by the championship game. We play to be #1 and every recruit coming in knows BBN doesn’t settle for less..
As for Hood, the kid is a joker. If he gets productive minutes then its huge for The team but there is much more promise in Beckham. This team showed that if Cal can get 6 talented kids to play buy into strong team Defensive and sharing the Ball on offense, then we can have a winning team. If we have a 7-8 man rotation, even if the 2-3 off the bench play limited roles we can achieve success, this season made that clear. I pray Cal doesn’t have the same “oh let’s lower our expectations” attitude. I am fairly confident he doesn’t.
