John Wall, Wizards Look to be Exciting and Successful
The Wizards spent most of last season trying to catch their breath as they stumbled, sides splitting, to a 29-53 record. But three years of solid backcourt draft picks and better luck with injuries make them one of the more intriguing young teams in a beleaguered Eastern Conference.
Two of five NBA analysts predict that the Wizards will make the biggest leap in the East, citing a healthy John Wall as step one in making a playoff run:
Dan Feldman: Washington Wizards. The Wizards don’t need to get dramatically better to make the East’s biggest jump. They just need to stay healthy. Despite its 29-53 record last year, Washington would have made the playoffs if John Wall, Nene and Bradley Beal had even average injury luck. With Wall: 24-25. With Wall and Nene: 22-19. With Wall, Nene and Beal: 15-7. That’s a playoff team lurking.
Jeremy Schmidt: Wizards. The Wizards seem the safest bet to make a double-digit improvement in wins. They closed last season strong, added a well-regarded/ready-to-play-now draft pick in Otto Porter and should get a full season from a Wall with something to prove. Eclipsing .500 in a still-weak East doesn’t seem unreasonable.
And most exciting team in the East? That might be the Wizards, too:
Gutierrez: Wizards. It’s a tough call, but I’m always looking for new and exciting. And with Wall coming into the season healthy, Beal, Porter and a quality frontcourt, the Wizards should be fun. And they might win.
Three seasons of less than 30 wins can make things tough, but this might be the year that the Wall comes tumbling down.
That doesn’t make any sense. Whatever.
Demarcus Cousins Doesn’t Feel Pain Like Normal People
What you see there is Boogie getting his newest ink: a Native American-style dreamcatcher to represent his ancient Cherokee heritage.
…well, you tell me. I don’t know. The best part, though, is the caption included by the tattoo artist: “New client @boogiecousins gettin inked, fell asleep on me,tough dude, real as they come! #tattoosbyrandy#Vegas” That’s right, what you’re really seeing there is Demarcus Cousins falling asleep as he gets the tender inside of his bicep tattooed.
I’ve got a couple tattoos. They hurt okay; I mean I didn’t cry (a lot). I didn’t fall asleep, either.
In case you didn’t know, Boogie is tough. He likes the pain, welcomes it like soft embrace. The skulls of those he has conquered bleach on the beaches of a thousand worlds.
He’s like a super-talented Johnny Knoxville. Things that should hurt him just… don’t. That’s what this country needs. #BoogieForAmerica
