NBA Player Rankings

It’s no secret that there is a Kentucky Wildcat or two in the NBA right now. It’s also no secret that our man John Calipari has had a lot to do with that. Coach Cal has preached a player’s first message since arriving in Lexington and has followed through with that by sending players to the NBA when they were ready to go, not when the fans were ready to let them go.

It has been great to see Kentucky involved with so many young people that are achieving their dreams and changing the lives of their families.  As shown by the number of players who returned last weekend for the Alumni game, Kentucky was not merely a stepping stone to the NBA for them. The University and the state of Kentucky mean something to them.

On August 17th, the @NBAonESPN twitter account began rolling out their rankings of the top 500 players in the NBA.  Thus far, they have released numbers 54-500. As you can guess, there were quite a few former UK greats included in that list.  You, the fans, can interact on twitter under the hash tag “#NBARank.”

See if you agree or disagree with the 104 “experts” polled.  They were ranked on “the current quality of each player.”

#55 John Wall- Washington Wizards

#62 Anthony Davis- New Orleans Hornets

#122 Eric Bledsoe- Los Angeles Clippers

#128 Michael Kidd-Gilchrist- Charlotte Bobcats

#144 Tayshaun Prince- Detroit Pistons

#177 Brandon Knight- Detroit Pistons

#178 Chuck Hayes- Sacramento Kings

#205 Enes Kanter- Utah Jazz

#231 Patrick Patterson- Houston Rockets

#248 Jodie Meeks- Los Angeles Lakers

#302 Nazr Mohammed- Chicago Bulls

#311 Terrence Jones- Houston Rockets

#345 Kelenna Azubuike- Cleveland Cavaliers

#356 Marquis Teague- Chicago Bulls

#387 Doron Lamb- Milwaukee Bucks

#403 Josh Harrellson- Miami Heat

#425 Darius Miller- New Orleans Hornets

#426 Daniel Orton- Oklahoma City Thunder

#465 DeAndre Liggins- Oklahoma City Thunder

In the top 50 will be the likes of Demarcus Cousins and Rajon Rondo. Where do you expect to see each of them ranked?

John, I was first team All-State. I can put the ball anywhere I want to. I'll make it rain out here.

They seem so low, but I guess if you’re better than #150, then you’re starting material. #300 means you’re good enough for 2nd string. If 12 dress, then I guess you want to be better than #360. Would love to see all the young sub-300 guys take a step forward this year.

still impressed with just how many from UK we have in the league right now. i knew there were many, and i probably could have named them all if you asked me. but something about seeing the list written out in this form, makes me say 2 things:
    1: “Holy shit!”
2: “WHY would a top 5 player in his position NOT take a scholarship from Cal when offered???” Having grown-up near Syracuse, and living and breathing with both programs for the last 20 years…if my son had an offer from both Cal and Jimmy B on the table, there is no choice whatsoever which one he takes (and that is with ALL the respect in the world for Boeheim and the number of young men that have gone to the League from SU).

At least this post didn’t require Aaron to make any predictions. They’ll never let him do that again.

DLiggins is 6th man material as is DMill; two of my all-time fav players along with Ravi Moss and my ULTIMATE ALL-TIME #1 fav – Wayne Turner-Burner. And BK will break the top-50 w/in the next 3yrs.

#3, okay we get it. We lost by 1 to WKU on a powderpuff play. Our QB threw 4 INT’s and we still could/should have won the game. It was an upset. Happens. Didn’t your team lose to Marshall and FIU last season?

    10) No love for Heshimu Evans?!? DLiggins is all hustle and heart and defense….DMill is class individual who you could always count on to be the consumate teammate. Seems like Heshimu embodies the best of those worlds. He’s my number 1 non-headline making Wildcat. (Note: I am not Heshimu Evans, nor am I his parents/brother/cousin/etc.)

Rondo Top 12 and Cousins Top 25. I think that it is pretty awesome that 1/25 of the NBAs Best came from UK. The way we are going in 5 more years with the players that retire or whatnot we could have that down 1/20 of the NBA.
