The three-star QB/ATH committed to Arkansas State two weeks ago but backed out and committed to Kentucky yesterday.

Today, he made it official.

10:26 am… Landon Foster is in.

He’s a combo punter and placekicker from Tennessee. He hit 11 of 16 field goals in his senior season with a long of 49. He was first team All-State with an average of 41.3 yards per punt.

10:15 am… Joker tweets “Shawn Blaylock in the house”

Add another Stephenson player to your roster at home.

Blaylock (6’0”, 180 lbs.) played receiver and cornerback with fellow UK signee DeMarcus Sweat at Stephenson.

9:54 am… Add Jordan Swindle to the list.

Don’t let the photo fool you. That’s a large young man.

6’8″, 308 pound offensive tackle Jordan Swindle just signed with Kentucky. He’s rated by Rivals as a three-star prospect. He also held offers from Louisville, West Virginia, Vanderbilt and Southern Miss and had received interest from schools like Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame, Arkansas and Miami.

9:51 am… He’s a Cat.

Khalid Henderson signed with the Cats over Ole Miss.

Rivals.com calls him a three-star but he’s the No. 19 overall linebacker on ESPN’s board. We’re going to trust the Worldwide Leader on this one.

What a HUGE pickup for Kentucky. The Cats now have LOIs from a former Alabama commit and a former Tennessee commit.

9:36 am… Waiting on Khalid Henderson.

The former Tennessee commit was supposed to decide between Ole Miss and Kentucky at 9:00 am.

Still waiting.

9:30 am… I’m hungry. Here’s your list again.

9:20 am… Cody Quinn is in.

Cody Quinn gave a verbal commitment to Kentucky a few weeks ago; now he’s official.

Quinn, who originally committed to Illinois last summer, considered other schools after Illinois made a coaching change.

He’s a 5’10”, 170-pound cornerback out of Middletown, Ohio.

9:10 am… DeMarcus Sweat keeps the Stephenson pipeline alive.

The 6’1″ wideout comes via Stephenson High School, which produced Raymond Sanders, Jabari Johnson and Ronnie Shields for the Cats in 2010.

Sweat is a top 100 wide receiver according to ESPN.com.

9:05 am… LANGSTON NEWTON!!!

Morgan Newton’s baby bro is a Cat!

The younger Newton, a three-star defensive end, checks in at 6’5″, 240 pounds and held scholarhip offers from Purdue, Marshall, Miami (Oh.), Indiana, Bowling Green and some other smaller schools.  He also had been in contact with Florida, Georgia, Nebraska, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.

Glad to see him join the class.

9:00 am… AJ Legree is your first wide receiver.

Legree, a Florida product, is 6’0”, 180 pounds and is ranked as a three-star wide receiver. He picked Kentucky over South Florida and Iowa State and received some late interest from Arkansas and Clemson.

8:55 am… Let’s look at the list.

Daron Blaylock… DB… 6-1… 215… Marietta, Ga. (Walton)
Zack Blaylock DB… 6-0… 188… Marietta, Ga. (Walton)

Patrick Towles… QB… 6-5… 242… Ft. Thomas, Ky. (Highlands)
Jordan Watson… OL… 6-4… 315… Fayetteville, Ga. (Whitewater)

8:51 am… Zach Myers, come on down!

Offensive lineman Zach Myers, who hails from Miamisburg, Ohio, submitted is LOI to Kentucky today. Myers, the son of a former Cat is ranked as a two-star prospect and also had offers from Ohio and Toledo, but had been receiving interest from Michigan, Pitt, Cincinnati and Northwestern. He’s 6’4″, 270 pounds.

8:45 am… Kentucky steals Justin Taylor away from Bama.

Kentucky just picked up a surprise commitment from Justin Taylor, a running back who had previously committed to play for Alabama. Taylor is listed at 5’10”, 205 lbs. and he also held offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Arkansas.

Alabama wanted Taylor to greyshirt but he wanted the opportunity to see the field right away.

What a huge get for the Cats. One that softens the blow of losing Imani Cross to Nebraska.

8:30 am… Josh Harris, another Kentucky boy

Harris did it all at Mason County, playing running back, receiver, linebacker and defensive back. He rushed for 2,848 yards and 42 touchdowns in his career, despite missing most of his senior season because of injury. On top of that, he totaled 582 receiving yards and eight TDs and threw a couple of touchdown passes. He also totaled 287 tackles and six fumble recoveries on defense.

8:26 am… Dyshawn Mobley!

Dyshawn Mobley, a three-star running back out of Powell High School in Tennessee, just signed his LOI to play Kentucky. Powell is a 6’0, 205-pound back ranked as the 23rd best prospect in the Volunteer State.

“It’s a great opportunity to be able to play in the SEC at Kentucky, and I wanted to get on the field as soon as possible,” Mobley said.

He also had offers from Mississippi State, Toledo and Vanderbilt.

8:18 am… Thomas Chapman snuck in on me…

The third-ranked recruit in the state of Kentucky has joined the class. Chapman, the 6’4”, 290-pound defensive tackle out of DuPont Manual, is ranked 30th at his position, according to Rivals.com.

He’s going to be a stud on the defensive line.

8:00 am… Fred Tiller and Jonathan Reed come through at the same time.

Add two more.

Fred Tiller, a three-star athlete from Homerville, Georgia, is officially a Cat. Tiller had a lot of offers from a wide range of schools including South Carolina and Mississippi State. He’s 6’1”, 180 lbs. and played wide receiver and defensive back for Clinch County in Homerville, Georgia. Rivals.com ranks him as the 45th best athlete in the class.

The fax machine couldn’t slow down before Jonathan Reed’s fax came through after Tiller’s. Reed, a three-star cornerback from Marquis Teague’s Pike High School in Indianapolis, said the coaching staff just felt like a family when he committed last summer.  He’s 5’10”, 178 lbs. and runs a 4.42 40-yard dash.

7:52 am… Patrick Graffree’s LOI is in.

The staff just added another name to the 2012 class in the form of Patrick Graffree, a defensive lineman from Central Hardin. The 6’4″, 245 pound defensive end had received some interest from Louisville and he has a Facebook fan page, so that’s like getting two victories in one.

Welcome aboard.

7:43 am… John Toth, come on down.

Toth is an offensive tackle out of Indianapolis.  He is listed at 6’5″ and 290 lbs. and has been committed to the Cats since last summer.

7:30 am… The Blaylock twins are in!

Daron and Zack Blaylock, the sons of Atlanta Hawks great Mookie Blaylock, are the next verbal commitments to make it official.

Daron (6’0”, 218 lbs.) is projected to play outside linebacker and his Zack (5’11”, 185 lbs.) will likely play strong safety.

The duo had offers from Louisville, Cincinnati, and Illinois. Auburn and South Carolina also showed interest.

7:21 am… Jordan Watson is No. 2.

Watson is a 6’4″, 285 pound offensive lineman from Whitewater, Georgia and is a former teammate of current Cat Josh Clemons.  He had offers from Mississippi State, USF, Wake Forest and Indiana and also received interest from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee.

7:15 am… Patrick Towles is the first member of the 2012 class.

He is the star of the class and the first to submit his Letter of Intent. Patrick Towles, the quarterback out of Highlands High, is officially a Wildcat. His paperwork came through bright and early at 7:06 am.

Towles is the 31st ranked quarterback in the nation and the best player overall from the state of Kentucky.

You’re looking at the future of Kentucky football.

6:50 am… Whew. It’s early.

Today, of course, is college football’s National Signing Day and we’re going to be doing things a little differently on the website. Instead of new posts popping up on KSR all day, this running blog will stay at the top with updates as football commitments come through.

As your resident football recruiting guru (I was promoted an hour ago), I will follow every fax that comes through the UK football office and report back to you as soon as possible. Every time the fax machine spits out a new Letter Of Intent, you’ll know within minutes the name of the new Wildcat who signed it and how fast he runs the 40.

It should be fun; it might be informative. Either way, it’s the earliest I’ve been up since 7th grade and I’m ready to rock. I have a large coffee, a danish, and a live feed to a microscopic spy cam attached to the collar of Tee Martin’s UK polo.

Go Cats and Happy Signing Day 2012!

Most of you guys are morons and don’t know a cornerback from a guard. You certainly don’t have a clue about any of these recruits or football recruiting in general. This is a pretty solid class. Go ahead and chime in with 12th in the SEC but the difference between the #5 & the #12 class in the SEC is pretty slim. The top 3 or 4 are usually out of this world.

I wish everyone would quit talking about football. This is a basketball state. Hell, the word ‘Kentucky’ means college basketball. Any-hu… If uofl doesn’t stop making such a big damn deal about football recruiting (not actual wins) I will be forced to go to the media (the Lexington media) with all of the info I have about illegal recruiting practices going on here in Louisville. If people don’t think Strong is a dirty recruiter, ya NUTS. Strong was the money man for Meyer. And now, Strong has his (dirty) money man, Hurtt. It is just a matter of time till Strong either leaves uofl or gets us in trouble with the ncaa.

It would be nice to have a O-line and a running game to protect him. If UK trails often in games this year that means throwing the ball alot, and that could be bad for the Freshman

  26. Raazoul
    8:44 am February 1, 2012 Permalink

#9 you are such an idiot. WHY ARE YOU EVEN WATCHING UK FOOTBALL? We will never, ever, ever win the National Championship. Which is what we would be doing if we can compete with Bama and LSU. 99% of the country cannot and have not competed with Bama and LSU in recruiting. This isn’t a solid class, ITS THE BEST CLASS WE HAVE HAD IN MY LIFETIME. So now it’s up to how they develop and what Joker can do with them.

  27. 44 Stitches

    @23

We didn’t get Justin Taylor to flip his commit from Bama to us. Saban told Taylor he couldn’t sign with Bama with this class but his scholarship stood for next year. Taylor blew his knee out and is not ready to play football this coming season. If Taylor did sign with us he will more than likely have to redshirt.

  28. Billy
    8:53 am February 1, 2012 Permalink

What a steal by getting Justin Taylor. My only concern is look at all the running backs we now have. At least 6 on the roster. But this is by far the best class that i have ever seen by UK. Joker is more of a recruiter than a coach in my eyes. But it is always a good sign to see our main star Quarterback to be the first to sign. He needs to start day 1.

  29. Harv

We need to get the OLB Henderson. That would be a big get and be a big steal from Tennessee. Not because we didn’t beat them bad enough last night. Us getting him would rub it in their face.

I’m sure there is a lot that can change, and I’m not knowledgeable of the system, but shouldn’t we expect to be ranked on Rivals with regard to our recruiting class?

I just checked and we’re not in the top 50, but Vandy is in at #24? and Louisville is 36?

Please don’t use the “Randall Cobb clause” on star rankings etc. it goes without saying that a “FEW” players always fly in under the radar. However, we can expect a lot more of the same until the culture around football changes.

    Vandy #24…GD it, WTF!

Great recruiting class. Whoever is coaching UK in a couple of years from now will benefit from the work Joker, Tee, and others have put into recruiting this bunch. Regardless of how you feel about Joker and the job he’s done as the man in charge, you gotta give the man credit for what he and his staff have been able to accomplish on the recruiting trail. Would you say this class is “more of the same”? I would, and the bad thing about it is that these are likely good athletes, but they have to be coached in part by Joker or Hole in the Ozone Minter. “EVERYONE” will never be at that point, and you do not have to be a great prognosticator to understand that things are very likely to remain the same with regard to the results of the football program under current leadership. It’s ridiculous to think that peoples attitudes will create enough synergy to elevate our program. B & nagging got us Caliperi eventually. Maybe, just maybe, with a whole lot of luck and money it can get us someone young and innovative that understands the game in this day and age.

On the surface, this looks like one of the better classes we’ve had in a while, but let’s look at the big picture. We are not even ranked in the Rivals top 50. We are also sitting dead last in the SEC, even with Missouri and Texas A&M in the mix. I do like Patrick Towles and Khalid Henderson, as the highlights of the class, and I think we may have a couple sleepers in the group, but overall, it’s just not there. On top of that, we are being out recruited by Louisville and Vanderbilt, and will probably have to get used to that, since they have head coaches with more personable and enthusiastic personalities. I hate being a pessimist, but we have to keep things in persepctive: Kentucky Football just can’t keep up, at this point!

Yet another year where little brother is kicking our rear end in recruiting. How can be so much harder to recruit for UK when we play top 25 teams almost every week in our conference and UL plays the Little East. I love the potential of some of our recruits but for crying out loud pull a few 5 stars every once in a while and get a few more 4 stars so we can compete. I am tired of either finishing under 500 or right at 500 and going to a crappy bowl. Not asking for you to win an NCAA Championship (that would be a dream), but at least get us to a bowl game that is far enough south that it does not have the same weather as we have (i.e. Nashville or Memphis). Lets have a little more pride and really work on getting some higher recruits. Oh well, I will still be in my seat chearing as loud as I can, now that I have spoke my mind. Go Cats! Tired of everyones excuses. Oh we can’t get better recruits because we are in the SEC. That alone should get us better recruits. How hard can it be to sell a kid on the idea that you can come start for us and play/beat top 25 teams every week or you can go and sit for 3 years and wait your turn. If I am in highschool, I am going to go and play all 4 years and work hard to become the type of player that should be starting for all the other teams. Still on national TV most weeks, still playing in the SEC (top conference in football year in and year out), still playing top talent, but now I am the star or one of many stars on my team instead of all 22 starteres being stars. We don’t need 5 stars at every position, but a few 5 stars a few more 4 stars and a bunch of top three stars that can step up their game to 4 star or 5 star status and we would be rolling. Giving us a chance to win every week. Maybe not #1 in the nation, but not #14 in the SEC.

I don’t see why everyone is obsessed with the ‘stars.’ Yeah, some of the five-star guys are absolute freaks who go to camps and blow people’s minds. But there are maybe 5-10 in any given year who are everything they are hyped up to be. And Kentucky ain’t getting any of those unless they are from Kentucky. Micah Johnson, for example. And frankly, he didn’t even start to become what everyone thought he would be until late. Danny Trevathan were both two-star players who didn’t even register when they showed up on campus. Four star players can be guys who just camp well but don’t play well. Aaron Boyd, for example. Morgan Newton was a four star player on Scout and I think a five star on Rivals. And boy howdy, he is just lightyears ahead of two-star Max Smith.

Some of you need to get a grip. We’ve done way more with way less talent in years past. Of course, we didn’t have Joker as HC either, but we’ll see how that turns out. We got a solid class with a few nice surprised like Taylor. If you were expecting 20 4*s to come out of nowhere and sign today well then you’re an idiot. Kentucky football will never be Kentucky basketball and that’s just fine but some of you need to realize that. That said, there’s no reason we can’t be a 7 to 9 win team with the talent we have, BUT we need the right people on the staff to help them reach their full potential. Stars do help but they’re not everything. Would you rather have a team full of 4* Newton and Boyd or 3* like Trevathan and Cobb?

I’m just giving my opinion, not arguing for any certain side. Football is not basketball. Especially not at Kentucky. You can’t turn your program around with a class or two like you can in basketball. On one hand there are the Bamas of the world. We will never be able to compete with them on the recruiting trail, but we can and should be able to compete with them on the field with the talent we have, providing we have a passable staff (and right now I’m not sure we do).

Look at Oregon and Boise State. Honestly I don’t really like either team or their fans, but they’re doing a lot with a little and that can’t be denied.

    123. Exactly. You can’t win recruiting battles against dynastic schools in their own backyard. I promise you that Boise and Oregon did not go down to LA and try to snake out five-star players from USC. We cannot hope to do that by going down to New Orleans and trying to snatch some All-American. They are not coming here. What you do is you go down to LA, GA, and FL, and find those kids that one of the dynasties wanted, but they snubbed. For example, Alabama liked Taylor this year, but not enough to even give him the chance to see the field. UT didn’t want Cobb unless he was willing to walk-on (until they offered him right before signing day) Does that mean that we should have done the same? Look at this Legree kid: Guy jumps 6’10 inches in the high jump, had great numbers, and had a huge game in FL’s all-star game. Why didn’t Florida want him? He’s 6’1. I promise you if he was 6’5 he would have had schools lobbing hookers in his window trying to get him.

So we shouldn’t have wanted him because BAMA passed on him? BAMA?! Good God you people are delusional. Look, I love UK football even more than UK basketball, but y’all need to stop holding the football recruits to the basketball team’s standards. It will only set you up for disappointment. The key to success is to get the guys that slip through the cracks of the bigger programs and build your program that way. Hypothetically, the big name guys will get easier and easier to get.

Point is…we cannot and should not hold ourselves to the recruiting standards that programs like Bama have. Sorry for those of you who don’t think we can ever be a top tier team. That attitude guarantees that we will not be a top tier team. If we can all step up our game a little as fans and really support the team maybe we can start turning things around and stop being the dirty towel on the basement floor and start working our way up. No reason in the world we can not be a top 25 team every year with St.X, Trininty, All the Cincy Schools, Indy has great players, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida. We can get players from these areas. We just have to have the coaches that have a reputation of putting kids in the pros or at least having a reputation of helping the players elevate their games to where they have a shot. If you dont have a coaching staff that can actually teach the players and help them raise their level of play, then it will never happen. I love Joker as a UK player and an assistant coach, but we have to get a top coach who can pull the players that we need and coach them up. I for one stand firm that we can be a top tier team if we change our attitude. Go Cats!

Can somebody tell me the last UK football player that came into the program injured that made a difference and stayed healthy? Just seems like a huge risk for a program that needs all the healthy bodies we can get.

#134 Josh Clemons? People get injured all the time in high school football; the question isn’t whether players were injured, it’s whether they can heal in time without losing anything. Considering Taylor is ready to begin playing again in a couple weeks and isn’t an early enrollee, he’ll be more than healthy by the time the season comes.
