Meet Jai Lucas a 5-10 silky smooth PG at Bellaire HS (Houston, TX) who is receiving a great deal of attention from many elite programs. Jai comes from a genetic pool of talent with a family that is no stranger to basketball. His father John Lucas was an NBA All-Star and his brother John Lucas II was an All-American at Oklahoma State.
Jai has heard from Kentucky, Texas, Connecticut (offered), Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Clemson, and Baylor.
I recently had a chance to speak with Jai and his father John about Jai’s recruiting process and their thoughts on Kentucky. Jai hears from UK consistently through mail and according to his father, UK assistant Reggie Hanson called him this week (Monday). Both Jai and his father have a huge amount of respect for Tubby. At least Jai’s father has built a relationship with Tubby, “Tubby has been a good friend of mine for a long time. He is a great man that I have a lot of respect for,” John Lucas said.
What stands out to Jai about Kentucky? They’re just right up there with North Carolina and Duke and when I watched them play Carolina Saturday, they had a sell-out crowd at Rupp Arena.” When asked what style of play he preferred Jai responded quickly stating “I like the up tempo style and the way Tubby uses Rajon Rondo, I can see that I would be able to push the ball if I went to Kentucky.”
Jai is averaging 26 PPG and 7 APG for Bellaire HS who is currently 4-1. Jai may join KSR Radio for a recruiting segment in the coming weeks.
