I just spoke with 6’9″ 245 lb Junior Aaron Pogue tonight. Pogue is a big body whom has drawn comparisons to former UNC TarHeel Sean May. Aaron told me he has been hearing from a lot of ‘big time schools’ lately and he told me his list of favorites include Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, and Michigan State – but he noted that he hasn’t ruled out any other schools either. When I asked him what would be the deciding factor in picking a school he said ” The program, coach, and how they treat their players, not just about basketball.”
He said he has gotten a lot of attention from the Kentucky staff mostly via mail, but he has spoken with Assistant Coach Reggie Hanson via telephone. He had some nice comments about Tubby Smith as well, “I grew up watching Kentucky with my uncles and I really like Tubby Smith. He helps get players to the NBA.”
At the end of our conversation, Pogue noted to be sure that I be tuned into ESPN2 on Thursday night. Pogue and 2006 OSU commit Daequan Cook will lead Dunbar into Indianapolis to take on Mike Conley and Greg Oden’s (2 other 2006 OSU commits ) Lawrence North HS. The game will air on ESPN2 on Thursday night at 7:30 EST.
Pogue sounds like a BIG that would be a huge help inside for anyone. He is huge and it is very easy to see why he is compared to Sean May. Pogue is not only a fantastic player, but also a well’mannered young man. There may be a chance that he joins us for a Recruiting segment of the show in the coming weeks.
