Moving Up the ESPN SEC Power Rankings

It’s heartbreaking to see Randall Cobb and Mike Hartline get snubbed out of SEC Offensive Player of the Week but at least the Cats are making their way up the power rankings (slowly but surely).  ESPN’s Chris Low moved Kentucky up a spot to #8 on the SEC power rankings this week and, like everyone else, Low is impressed with the UK offense:

1. Alabama

2. South Carolina

3. Florida

4. Arkansas

5. Auburn

6. LSU

7. Georgia

8. Kentucky – Nobody’s going to confuse Kentucky’s schedule for murderer’s row to this point, and the Wildcats should have another built-in win this week against Akron. Nonetheless, the Randall Cobb-Derrick Locke combo is the real deal. Senior quarterback Mike Hartline is playing well, and Chris Matthews is making a name for himself at the other receiver spot. To beat these Wildcats, you’re going to have to score some point.

9. Mississippi State

10. Tennessee

11. Vanderbilt

12. Ole Miss

Chris Low had even more kind words to say about The Legend of Cobb on his “Hot or Not” feature:

Kentucky receiver Randall Cobb: You hesitate to even put a position beside his name. It took the versatile Cobb all of two games to score touchdowns four different ways. In the blowout of Western Kentucky last week, he returned a punt for a touchdown, caught a touchdown pass and threw a touchdown pass. In the opener, Cobb had a 51-yard touchdown run. What’s next? Maybe the Wildcats will put him in on defense, and he’ll return an interception for a touchdown.

I can’t wait to hit conference play in a few weeks to see how good this offense really is. For now, I guess we’ll just have to hope for another 60+ point performance against Akron.

Go Cats.
