More details on the Michael Porter story

I’ll be honest, this is not a subject I enjoy writing about. I’d much rather write about how awesome Nerlens Noel is or post a video of Kyle Wiltjer singing “Call Me Maybe” with Brian Long. But, as sad and disgusting as Porter’s arrest is, it is news so let’s just get it over with…

More details from Michael Porter’s arrest have surfaced, including his addiction to porn and the sting operation that took him down. According to The Herald-Leader, the Lexington police engaged in a “phone/text” sting operation with Porter to get information from him that would corroborate with what the girl told them in an interview. During the sting, Porter asked the girl to send a picture because he “deleted the old one” and he confirmed that the two engaged in oral sex in her bedroom. Porter was arrested the next day.

Read more over at Kentucky.com if you’re interested. We’re not going to dwell on this awful story over here.

so the girl decides she wants to get with him and then she decides to have him put in jail. ya, she was an underage high schooler, but she’s just as guilty as him

  4. seriously dude?

3 just as guilty as him? uh she didn’t commit a crime, he did, so therefore she is not just as guilty.

    3. She is certainly not “just as guilty as him”. She was an impressionable child who was taken advantage of by a predator. Most of these kids don’t even realize what they’re involved in. This has been clinically proven.

doing that with underage people is just plain wrong. liggins should have started freshman year instead of porter. then billy g seriously still might be employed here at UK.

#3 N0 she is not just as guilty. We as adults are held to a higher standard than our children who are often easily influenced or intimidated. He is/was an adult that was entrusted to mentor youth at his church. He is held at a much higher standard especially in his role as teacher.

3 thats just stupid. It’s the parents who is putting him in jail I assume. When a father hears a 30 year old is banging his 16 year old daughter, he has to decide 1)Kill him 2)Have him arrested. This guy was a better man than me. Then I would of slapped the teeth out of my daughter…

5 – I am in no way defending anyone here, as Porter was obviously way in the wrong and should be punished accordingly. But would you say the same thing about this girl acting in the same way with boys of her own age? I think most of us would not be so naive to say that this kind of stuff doesn’t happen all the time in high schools. As someone who deals with high schoolers on a consistent basis, I can tell you it does. However, in no way is the minor in this incident “guilty” of anything.

With that said, Porter should have obviously known better and stuck to dealing with women of legal age.

She was 15 years old. She knew wtf she’s doing. don’t give me that crap. ya, he’s more guilty and should get jail time. it was wrong, but it’s not like he is one of those sick pukes who do this kind of thing to little kids. i can’t justify those kind of people being able to live.

  12. Hoss_Cat
    1:28 pm May 23, 2012 Permalink

#9 I agree completely with what you said. I just don’t like it when a lot of these people are putting him in the same category as other sick monsters who should be put down.

  13. Hoss_Cat
    1:30 pm May 23, 2012 Permalink

If I was the girl’s dad, jail time would be the best thing for him to keep him away from me. Until something comes out that he’s been with even younger girls, I don’t think people should be calling him a monster.

  14. UKGirl
    1:30 pm May 23, 2012 Permalink

He was a point guard for the University of Kentucky in Lexington. You don’t think it’s sick to use that and the trust that he built being in a leadership position as a way to get an impressionable 15 year old to do whatever he wanted? That is sick. And it’s against that law. He knows the law. Don’t use someone else’s actions to justify things that you are probably doing that are illegal as well.

  15. Perspective
    1:31 pm May 23, 2012 Permalink

I think what 3 is saying is that age is an arbitrary metric on which to hold people accountable. 17 years 11 months, you’re an impressionable babe of the world who has no concept of right wrong and then 1 month later you are fully accountable for all of your actions and understand all of the related consequences. Is Porter a creep job for perving on girls half his age and under the law as written is certainly the only one criminally guilty of anything. However, although the 16 year old isn’t required to have any legal responsibility to say she doesn’t have some personal accountability and understanding that she would magically gain in 2 years is ludicrous.

#19 – #3 is not a typical UK fan. The typical UK fan knows that if Porter is guilty of the actions of which he is accused then he is TOTALLY the one to blame and should be punished as severely as possible for his actions. Maybe the young lady led him on; maybe the young lady initiated things. However that does not make her guilty of crimes. If he is guilty then it was TOTALLY his responsibility and he should not have allowed such actions to take place.
