With the support Kentucky has, they can realistically be a middle of the SEC pack school and go to a bowl year in and year out, with an occasional year that they challenge for a title and an a occasional year they are in the cellar and miss a bowl.

Seems to me that no other SEC school is going after Petrino because of his character issues. At least that is what the reports are. So, if he has to many character issues to be the head coach, maybe he will have to start lower and prove that he is a changed person. Maybe take am OC job at a school that is trying to get respect and win back a lot of fan support. Anyone know of a school like that could use an OC with a proven track record of success?

    22) Yeah, it’s amazing how quickly people have forgotten that. Brooks wasn’t pulling in tons of 5 stars and yet he managed to make Kentucky a threat. We still lost to Florida and Tennessee every year somehow, but he had a couple significant wins, and got us to multiple bowl games in a row. He didn’t then take the next step, but it’s not like Kentucky can never beat a good team.

    25) Yeah, Coley was OC in name only. Remains to be seen what he’ll do if he has the real reins, and also remains to be seen who else we’d have on staff. The name Shannon for DC sounds really good, but that’s only message board wishful thinking so far.

ahhhh the dawn of a new day. Fresh start. New beginnings. LOL, gotta love the bipolar nature of this site. Just reading posts on here the last few weeks, we went from a program beyond repair to a coaching graveyard, to hopeless program with no tradition, history and no chance. Now, it looks like the projections are (HAHAHA) chances for an SEC championship. You guys are like listening to a 4 year old on Christmas Eve. Here’s the bet I’d love to make… ain’t nothing gonna change. Not much anyway. We might jump over Mizzou in the East. We might tussle with Franklin to tie with Vandy for 6th in the SEC East in the next few years. UK is NOT going to compete with Bama/LSU/UGA/FL/USC and probably Tenn. Put down the kool aid and wake up. Just not gonna happen. Now bash me, but write it down and revisit in 3 years. The word then will be “well we can live with 7-5 records, 6th place SEC East finishes, 3-5 league marks, and low level bowls. Stoops is acceptable. Its what we are. When does basketball start?”. Mark. It. Down.

12 – I don’t think that is unrealistic if (1) Stoops and Coley are able to pull good recruits from FL up here, (2) if this coaching staff stays here that long and doesn’t leave for greener pastures when they begin to win, and (3) Barnhart and UK commit to creating a great football program and doesn’t settle for 7 win seasons. Or i could be completely wrong and Stoops underachieves as head coach and we continue to suck, ha. But I truly believe this coaching staff could have the potential to put UK on the map in football and refuse to believe that UK is destined to be mediocre at best and could never have a good football program.

The Guy Morriss gatorade bath on the LSU hail mary at Commonwealth that is replayed MORE than the lark of a game vs. #1? How about UK’s overall football winning % of under .500 for ITS ENTIRE HISTORY? Prognosticate that.

Who know if Stoops will work out or not? I think he has a chance to at least take the program a little further than a Grampa Brooks level of respectability if he has the “coat tails” to bring along a good coaching staff. Either way, I think any most UK football fans should feel a hell of a lot more optimistic about the Stoops hire than the ridiculous “coach in waiting” scenario with Joker that no one believed was a good idea — well, except for Barnhart, I guess.

Coley is not an elite OC but were talking a top 5 recruiter nationally .

None of the current players will be asked to leave .

Expect the DC to be an elite recruiter as well with less emphasis on being a veteran play caller because Stoops will call most of defensive plays.

Looks to me like Stoops plan is to bring much better recruits in then we’ve ever had and play old Baltimore ravens football… defense first…win field position… run the ball to set up play action and use a great kicker to take every 3 points we get

I would still take Neal Brown over Coley, but would obviously be happy with either one. I think Coley is by far the better recruiter, but would like seeing Brown’s offense in Lexington much better.

Jimbo Fisher calls most of the plays at FSU, so that is the downside with Coley as he doesn’t have much experience play calling. He is supposed to be a BEAST of a recruiter last night.

#47 If that’s true, that’s not a good recipe. I don’t care if he brings in the best 4 classes UK has ever had, his first 4 years in a row. It will still be ranked in the lower tier of SEC. Didn’t Joker show you that trying to bring players in to play conventional FB in the SEC won’t work for UK?? The only hope to compete is to be unconventional. Spread offense. Playing Baltimore Ravens FB with 3 star recruits vs. Bama/LSU/UGA/USC/TX A&M etc. ain’t gonna work. We will NOT outathlete the traditional SEC powers. Ever.

My goal? doesn’t matter. Reality dictates best case scenario at UK is 5th or 6th in SEC East. Better get 3 OOC wins (UofL not feasible at least for 2-3 years), cause .500 in conference rarely if ever will happen. Here’s what you don’t get, it doesn’t appear. Better recruits at UK is great when compared to PAST UK recruiting efforts. Doesn’t mean jack, tho, when compared with rest of SEC. What was this past year’s UK class ranked? 52nd or something? So Stoops remarkably improves UK to a 28th ranked class. Still will be 11th – 14th in SEC. Will that translate into better performance? probably. More SEC wins? NO, No and heck no. Overall better record? Maybe 6-6. Heck no I don’t worry about Natinal Title every year. Not any year. Not gonna happen in our lifetime unless state boundaries are redrawn. LOL

Last one since my welcome is worn out. You can mark this down too: lather, rinse, repeat in 3 years or so. Scenario 1 = Stoops and staff do what no other coaches have done at UK in 65 years or so. UK will have losing record next year. But best case, he puts a couple years back to back of 6-6, 7-5. Then he’s gone to greener pastures and back to square one. Scenario 2 = he doesn’t and back to square one anyway. Enjoy the honeymoon sunshiners!

#69 Cynical? Probably. Predict the future? How would one do that? How do economists, politicians, scientists predict the future? Study the past. Make educated guesses based on past results in experiments where the variables are unchanged. There are many variables inherent in the mess of UK football. Lack of recruiting base, northernmost SEC school, lack of funding compared to MOST other SEC teams, lack of tradition, lack of history, poor facilities, and lastly below average coaching (but not always..UK has had some good coaches that couldnt’ turn it around). So we change the coaching variable. Changes nothing about the rest of the issues. So I predict the future based on the past. Who is more likely right? What does an overall FB record of under .500 suggest? That I am more likely to hit the Powerball than you guys. LOL

Johnny Manziel was a 2 star qb and he made Alabama look like fools. It’s all about coaching… At the end of brooks’ tenure he wasn’t getting outstanding recruits… He was developing players. These coaches we are bringing in have deep ties to Florida and Texas. That’s where the players are. You get them up here and you develop them like stoops has shown he can do. Kentucky’s big selling point is if u go to an SEC power it is almost mandatory that u are redshirt… Not at UK. COLEY runs a mech of the spread and pro offense… And will manipulate the offense to play to our strengths. You obviously have no clue what you are talking about so take ur negative ass elsewhere.

Maybe get us on par with Carolina that should be our goal. Tennessee will be back in the top tier no way their AD will whiff agian. That’s not being negative it’s being realistic
#75 how do you know these guys know how to run a program? Stoops has never been a head coach and Coley hasn’t ran a offence. If the FSU recruits don’t go to FSU because of the coaches leaving don’t be so sure they would come here. There is a huge difference between recruiting to FSU and Uk.i hope this all works out but the jury is still out on this hire. What if our coach is more like Mike instead of Bob.
