Monty Madaris NOT visiting UK

Yesterday, Moeller High School’s football coach ‘confirmed’ that his star wide-receiver would take an official visit to Lexington this weekend.  This was reported on KSR-friendly site BleedBlueKentucky.com.  It now appears the kid has had a quick change of heart regarding his weekend plans.  Cincinnati 2012 WR Monty Madaris texted folks today saying that he will, in fact, NOT be visiting UK this weekend.  So much for that…

Madaris is a 6’2, 190 pound 4-star playmaker who reeled in 1,137 yards to go along with his 16 touchdowns this past season.  He’s not the elite of the elite, but he is a highly talented kid who the Kentucky coaches really want.  He would fill a very important and needed role for the Wildcats – a solid receiver who can stretch the field and score the football.  Playmakers are needed ASAP to boost the struggling offense from this past season in Lexington.

This is apparently not the first time Madaris has done this to Kentucky.  While it was considered a big deal to get him on campus, I don’t think many people felt positive about him ending up at UK anyway.  Definitely a bummer that he won’t visit, but Michigan State has been the leader and probable destination for this kid for some time.  I don’t know the ins and outs of this recruitment, so maybe Aaron Cordero will stop by in a bit with an update.  Supposedly, he’s been hearing some interesting stuff in the football recruiting world re: people flipping commitments and has been tweeting about it recently.

Hmm… Where would I go to school? The Big Ten runner up with a running game, a good QB and a place where I can see 1 on 1s, or a 4-8 SEC cellar dweller with an anemic offense and a place I have to work twice as hard to get half the recognition I would receive with a better offense… Wow, that’s a tough one!

why wouldn’t he want to come here? wonder if it’s the 2 losing records in 2 years. could losing actually hurt recruiting???

Typical football news I’m afraid. Seems like we are always so close, yet so far away from signing or drawing serious interest from the 4 star players or better we need to compete in the SEC.

As a graduate of Moeller High School and one who attends almost every game, it’s a pretty known fact that Michigan State is the place he will end up. It’s going to take a miracle for anyone to change that.

People say, like was said above, that he isn’t an elite guy. That’s false. This kid is a flat out stud. I don’t know what games and practices you people have watched, but this young man catches everything in sight and even the ones you think he won’t. He’s got very good speed, is a yards after catch guy, is physically put together, and is as hard a worker you’ll find. Did I mention he catches everything in sight.

Patrick Towles throwing the ball to Monty Madaris would have went down as one of the greatest QB-WR combos to every play in a UK uniform. I hate the little ten, but this guy is going to be very fun to watch. I’m just disappointed it’s not going to happen at Kentucky.

Why do my comments on show up on the board, and say “your comment is awaiting moderation”? Come on KSR, grow a pair…no bad language or anything…maybe Matt really is a socialist.

joke needs to crown a coach in waiting (cause he’ll probably be snatched up by some elite program soon) and put him in charge of recruiting. that way when he leaves the program can transition smoothly without missing a beat.

Some of you guys(esp. #8) do realize that when they refer to UK as a “basketball school”, it’s not meant as a compliment, don’t you?

The Recruiting Coordinator, Chuck Smith, doesn’t know how to run a business. Other schools outwork and outclass Kentucky. Kentucky football is on the decline. Why would any decent high school player commit to a program that will have its entire staff fired after next season? Kentucky football has been knocked back to the stone ages since Coach Brooks left. Kentucky signs low intellect players that other SEC schools don’t want.

This is very hard to read. The football recruiting classes keep getting better and the insane commenters can’t stand ONE year where we don’t make a bowl game. Don’t forget Joker was the offensive coordinator that made the team that upset LSU, got all the good players including Cobb over the last several years; and now the commenters above are going crazy. Worse than the negative people that call in to the post-game shows.

16 – One recruiting service has our recruiting class ranked 12th out of 14 SEC schools. Another has us ranked dead last. How is that improving? I know. I know. “Stars and recruiting services don’t mean anything.” “Randall Cobb was a 2-Star.”

Would have been nice to get our foot in the door in Cincinnati. I know it’s tough going up against hometown Cincy, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan and Mich. State but Joker and Minter ( who has ties there )have to start getting some kids from here. The town is just loaded with D-1 talent and it’s just a hour away.
