Losing talent from last years team is no excuse. It is the responsibility of the coaches to keep a certain level of talent on a major college football team. Athletics still has to go by university/state regulations for facilities financing, for example Bonds. Second, if people want a new stadium or facilities then it is time to put your money where your mouth is. Because it is gonna take donations from the fans to get UK there. So what you all like to complain about the UK Extortion K Fund, this is where the money needs to go to make it happen. Matt asked what it will take to compete with the LSU, Bama, Florida, and even UT then when you compare budgets, look at what their respective fundraising departments are bringing in. It is hell of lot more, and there fans want to give, not call it extortion.

I love how Mitch tried to justify having one of the lowest paid HC in the SEC with “well, we’re in the top 30’s across college FB”. That’s fine and all, except that we’re in a conference with programs who pay their coaches (save Vandy) top 10 money. It’s the same in FB recruiting. Our top 40 class is great until you realize we’ve only topped Vandy and that half of the conference is top 15 or better. Mitch needs to evaluate us vs. our conference competition, not against what Big East, CUSA or MAC (same conference) schools are doing. Sometimes afer hearing Mitch speak about FB, I feel like UK FB is in a gun fight with butter knife.

  106. disgruntled

@103 – It isn’t extortion at those other schools because they actually use the money to put a quality product on the field. It is extortion at UK because the money is wasted on sports for which the fans have no interest.

He should get zero credit for hiring Cal, he had to in order to keep his job after the Biily G debacle. But he didn’t want Cal or he would have gone after him 2 years before. Bottom line is that Mitch needs to be shown the door ASAP. He is not even a decent AD. He is a disaster waiting to happen

Mitch states the obvious and we are supposed to think he is capable of change??? HE IS FULL OF CRAP AND INCAPABLE OF MAKING A REALLY SHREWD HIRE. The ONLY way anything will change is when it starts to hit the Athletics Dept., and UK in the pocket. Stay home from the games, bombard the new Predident at UK, Dr. Eli Capiluto with emails wanting change (and be respectful).
Dr. Capiluto is not beholden to Barnhart in any way, so he is the guy to press. Also, let the Alumni know how you feel, post on Facebook, Twitter, and all of the other sports sites that CHANGE HAS GOT TO COME AND SOON, VERY SOON. Joker and staff have got to go, more money has to be spenton an SEC CALIBUR COACH and new facilities have to have a REAL priority. In the SEC you get as good as you give, and that holds true with money and talent.

On the removal of the Hall of Honor names from the football stadium. It was an example of poor planning by UK’s powers to be, there should have been a well thought plan to superseed the installment of the electronic ribbons – by preplanning they could taken advantage of a strong PR event to introduce the program.
