Let’s leave Joker’s job security out of the conversation for now (not that he’d address it anyway), and focus on positive changes. I don’t want to hear another word from Mitch about meeting rooms and new lights at the practice field. All those things, while needed, clearly have not translated to success on the field. I want to hear a coherent plan for achieving football success, without the corporate non-speak we always get from him. What you’ve been doing isn’t working. What are you going to change, and how? More specifically, when are you going to allocate more cash to football, and how are you going to spend it?

Serious question #1 – please ask why is it acceptable to continue to raise prices on football tickets and deliver a product that is sub par, and slipping further. As a season ticket holder and UK Alumni, I want a partial refund.

Serious question #2 – Is he aware of the financial impact his continual raising of ticket prices PLUS the K “extortion” fund has on a family wanting to go to a UK Football game? For just myself and my son to go to a game costs $150, minimum. How is that appropriate in today’s economy? It’s nothing but greed and my sincere hope is Commonwealth ends up 1/3 full the remaining home games. I personally will be at Keeneland, where I can
pay $10 for an entire after noon of entertainment with my son on a Saturday, AND have a shot at winning a little extra.

    1. Why is it that UK is only interested in scheduling non-conference opponents from non BCS conference opponents? Other than UL and Indiana, which UK stopped playing in 2005, UK has not played a non-conference regular season opponent since South Florida in 2000 and Uconn in 1999 and both of those teams were I-AA at the time. It appears that every year the formula UK uses to make a bowl is schedule 3 cupcakes, beat UL and Vandy and then hope to steal another SEC game to get to 6 wins. Why is it that the coaches and administration talk about taking UK to bigger and better bowls when the actions through scheduling don’t bear that out? Sure UK has a tough schedule already playing in the SEC, but other schools in the SEC schedule BCS opponents.

    2. Has Mitch, Joker or anyone from the staff looked at programs like Utah, Boise State, TCU and other smaller schools that have found ways to be successful. Both Boise St. and Utah are located in states without much high school talent and all 3 schools have smaller stadiums and have faced building successful programs without unlimited funds. Would it be such a bad idea to try to mimic the way these programs are run?

Think #13 is on the right track, as is #30 for the most part. What’s the plan to lift our major university’s (30K+ current students and 100K+ alumni in the immediate area alone) biggest revenue-producing team to consistent championship-contending status? If Boise State can pull that off, then no school UK’s size has an excuse, ’cause Idaho isn’t exactly a treasure trove of high-school talent. And if we’re going to remain this mediocre/awful, how do you justify consistent increases in the cost to attend a game, especially in this economy? No more lip service or company lines. I’ll even help Mitch out a little….sign a deal to get us 50 different combinations of uniforms. Seems to be helping Oregon and Oklahoma State.

With us being in the premiere football conference in America does he feel we will be able to get our football program to be playing at a championship level like basketball year in and year out, and how soon can we get there? I would like to see UK institute a policy of teaching High School Coaches across the state of Ky how to coach and train athletes better. Raise the level across the board in KHSAA. UK, I think should take the lead in offering free or very low cost 1-2 week clinics to all high school coaches over the summer that teaches coaches how to coach better, motivate athletes better, weight train and nutrition better.
When high school coaches learn to coach better and institute weight training earlier, then high schools become more capable across the board.
I think that with better coaching and early development, more actual athletes will evolve throughout the state. And I also think that UK could provide, at a small price to UK, free or very low cost DVDs to training fundamentals for the little league teams. Ky is one of the poorer states in the U.S.
If necessary, work with the other major Universities to get this done.
The traditional HS power programs in KY don’t have a better gene pool the regularly attends school there. They are better trained and better coached, making it possible to develop into athletes.

I am proud of the vast improvement in all the non-revenue producing sports, and have begun to keep up with them. In fact, I will be attending the Men’s soccer game tomorrow, which I have never done. But living in FL during football season is very tough as a Wildcat fan.
Thanks for your time and appearance in a medium like KSR Mitch. I believe KSR, and the internet, is the medium that the more rabid fans use these days.

Can you tap IMG as the Corporate sponsor of CWS to deck it out. They own the rights to everything UK it seems. Oregon tapped Nike and has worked out well for them. IMG is big money. Have them foot the majority of the bill (co-sign) the loan programs and deck CWS out with whatever is needed. Don’t wrap it up with anything else but football. I’m not talking adding normal seating, but all the bells and whistles that the FB program is short. Club seating, recruiting room, a new way to honor UK greats. Make it first class, and then I think it would be fair to expect success in the next 5 yr. from that point. (along with the program I listed above;))
