Mislav Brzoja’s coach dissects UK visit

Mislav Brzoja’s high school coach spoke with CatsIllustrated.com recently about Brzoja’s visit to UK’s campus this past week. Kentucky played host to the 6-5 shooting guard who arrived Wednesday night before leaving Thursday evening. Though according to Brzoja’s coach the visit went well, he has still not received an official offer from the Kentucky coaching staff.
His high school coach, David Jamerson, had the following to say about the visit:
“I think (Brzoja and his host family are) hopeful and excited, and they’re just going to wait and see in the next four or five days what direction Kentucky wants to go…They loved (Calipari). Honestly they loved everything.”
While on his visit, Brzoja worked out with some of the Kentucky players (though which players were in attendance could not be verified). His coach admitted that the level of play in some of the drills during the workout were a test for Brzoja. His coach seemed to feel like the visit overall was very positive, but the Kentucky coaches still have some decisions to make before offering Brzoja. His coach did seem to believe that Kentucky might have an opening for a shooting role for Brzoja to fill on their roster.
The decision on whether or not to offer Mislav Brzoja very well might hinge on how the Anthony Bennett and Mark Lyons recruitment processes pan out. Brzoja seems very impressed though with Kentucky. To read the full article of Brzoja’s coach’s recap, check out the CatsIllustrated.com here.

Thx Ally, as I was curious to a bit more detail on what transpired during this visit.
We have how many available scholarships? I say, if the numbers are there, bring him in and beat defense into the kid. I’ve see videos of him and he can flat out shoot the ball!!
There is always room on a team for a pure shooter, just got to be careful to leave spots for next years haul of *****’s.
Ridge, you’re thanking Ally for paraphrasing another article?
#4 what’s the **** is wrong with saying thank you for doing the work to find the article and then post it on the website. Your sir are a jackass.
4) haha –No, just being courteous as she did think to post it without me (many of us) having to go search for it. The comments she poses are good reads as well.
Actually, the visit had slipped my mind as well, till she posted this and reminded me.
Thank s for linking the article. I never could have found it without you.
5) yessir and thats another way to put it my friend.
Some of you guys are real butt holes. 4 & 7 come to mind immediately.
2) Hood, Harrow, Wiltjer, Goodwin, Poythress, Cauley, Noel
Polson, Beckham are Preferred Walkons (get a schollie if one available)
That means we have 6 schollies available. Cal won’t want to committ to many to players who will be here more than 1 year, though, as the 2013 class is a monster, and Cal prefers to play 6-7 guys anyway.
I assume Bennett and Lyons are both welcome, but if neither comes, Cal probably only takes 1 from the other players he’s looking at since most are multi-year types.
Please pick this kid up and forget about the punk from Xavier. We don’t need anyone that is a gangster.
10) Thanks Han, I still think you take the kid because he’ll be here a while most likely!
Bennett and Lyons would not matter because they both are probably only here one year….. We need a couple guys that are not 1 year players though so I like this kid and maybe the v tech kid….. Poythress and Noel are outta here for sure. So we should have room for about 7/8 Guys next year or 5/6 if he signed a couple of the other guys not being Lyons or bennett. The preferred walk on can be exactly that of need be
I hope Lyons does not commit…I do not think he is the type we need at UK.
Hope to god we can beat Florida for Bennett..I think he would be GREAT for us.
As far as Brzoja…if he is a great shooter I say we get him…defense can be taught…but we NEED another shooter for next year.
My vote is let’s get Bennett and lock up Brzoja now. That will nicely compliment what we have for next year. Forget about the Lyons kid, first, he is probably going to Zona anyway, and second, too many issues.
BigBlue, Look up the videos on this kid!! He can shoot from anywhere at any time. He’s impressive!
To me all the people on here complaining about lyons past are saying we should not have given boogie or Bledsoe a shot as both had problems…. Not to mention wall getting arrested his senior year. Cal never has problems with his guys….. Quit talking negative about kids we are recruiting. If he can ball he can ball…. As long as he can make it a year without gettig in trouble I’m in…… Boogie was great here and has already had multiple problems in the nba. I didn’t follow cal so much at memphis or umass but I cannot remember cal players getting in trouble or being a cancer to the team…. I may be wrong but I don’t remember it. If he thinks he g
Fits we should shut up. He offered him so he likes something about him
we may pick this kid up, the key is, what’s his gpa?
18) If he’s here as an exchange student it has to be pretty good because that’s how the system works!!
i think its pretty clear this guy can not play Cals style or at UKs level, hes not a 3 star kid because hes Croatian, hes a 3 star because thats about where he is talent wise. Also, for all of you that think defense can just be taught, youre crazy, you have to have alot of physical attributes to be a great defender at this level. You guys have post dramatic Gillispie disorder when its comes to recruits. Even after 3 years of Cal bringing in the best, you guys want to sign anyone up.
20- Chris Lofton called and he wants his 3 stars back
hmmmm, a big white kid who can shoot from anywhere on the floor but lacks defense… don’t we already have one of those?
…but better?
20) So you think Cal brought the kid in and is stringing him along because he’s not interested? Who’s the idiot here?
21. yeah, and where is he at? what did he ever do? Lofton wouldnt see the floor on a Cal team
24. Yes, has he offered him, well idiot? well?
22) No Mislav Brzoja is a true 6’4″ shooting guard. Not a big man that can shoot.
24. Whats it cost Cal for him to visit? does it out pressure or develop a sense of urgency in other? Yes, does it make other coaches go crazy for nothing yes. You have no clue how things work. Im sorry, but youre the idiot and the sad part is, you think you know, you actually think you know how things work.
Have heard that Torian Graham is still a distinct possibility as well if Bennett falls through (and maybe even if he comes).
No you have no understanding that you wait for what is out there, and make a decision. But, yes he is very interested or the kid would have been told that! You obviously have a very low opinion of Cal’s ethics.
30. has nothing to do with Cals ethics, has to do with Cals genius. He knows there are multiple dimensions to the psyche of the other players and if you think for 1 pee brained minute, that Cal doesnt play games by acting interested in kids that he doesnt want or isnt going to offer, you are just crazy. You dont know how it works.
30. and before you start with grammar, i meant pee instead of pea because I think thats what you have in your (i think i freakin know everything) head.
25- he got cancer. He would definitely be in the pros if not for this. He was a career 52% 3 point shooter in the SEC. He would see the floor for any team in the country
Ok, i’m sure you are correct. Have a lovely evening and life with your pleasant demeanor!
34. hey, you called me out….twice buddy, so dont act all holier than thou.
33. i disagree, and even if that were the case, people want to look at one kid for their arguments. Stupid, what do people want, 3star kids…no. If you want and think you can hang banners with that, go see how many gillispie has, go look at who wins it and who goes home.
33. and btw, cancer isnt what derailed his career, hell he had that in college, hes floated around the ukraine and wherever else playing. So dont act like cancer ended his career, hes just not good enough to play in the NBA…no shame in that, but lets not act like we should recruit 3 star kids because of Lofton
37. I find it amusing that most people get on here to enjoy the UK Athletic programs and some just to argue, or put down, the other folks that post. BTW, Josh Harrellson was a 3 star and was the only person on the Knicks roster with a ‘+’ beside his name today!
then obviously you must laugh at yourself alot, since you cant leave it alone. You take the 3stars, I will take the 5 stars and I will win. Just stop trying to act like you know something that you dont. And you started the whole thing.
“for all of you that think defense can just be taught, youre crazy, you have to have alot of physical attributes to be a great defender at this level. Right?
so what if he has 3 stars. only reason for only 3 star is that he is white and can’t jump to the roof. it does not matter that his iq is better then most of nba players, his above average passing, court vision, ball control and shooting. it is about jumping. so what? 5 stars have that fat kid tony parker and i do not se him playing in any croatian u18 team. kaleb tarcevski also… no quality but 5 stars are there. even best ranked player noel shows how bad he can play in nike hoops sumit. archie goodwin. he surely shows shooting touch. brzoja is one of best euro players in his grup of age, imo he is better then any euro guard in 2012. nike sumit. he already beat some 5 star us players, even if he is 2 year younger than his 5 star opponents
The kid clearly has the physical attributes to play defense…and it can be and is taught. We need another SHOOTER for next season in order to have a shot at the title. If Cal thinks this kid is up to the level we need, he will offer him…and no doubt the kid will be developed.
