Darius Miller and his USA World University Games team saw their first action in the far east today in an exhibition game against Chinese professional team New Century. Team USA managed a comfortable 88-61 win in in the contest, with Miller chipping in 7 points and 8 rebounds on the day. He was 2-of-4 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line for Team USA, which used some ridiculously hot three-point shooting to take care of business.
The team was 14-of-25 from outside as a whole, with Vanderbilt’s John Jenkins doing most of the damage. Jenkins scored all 24 of his points from outside, hitting 8 of his 10 three-point attempts in the game. He knocked down three in a row to lead a 14-0 run in the second quarter that helped the USA take the lead and eventually cruise to the win. Hopefully he’ll get all that out of his system before it’s time to play Kentucky this fall.
Team USA is in group D for the University Games, along with Finland, Hungary, Israel, Mexico and South Korea. They open the competition against Mexico on Saturday.
