Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Mike Pratt! (Monday Show Thread)

As you can see in this photo, former UK great Mike Pratt was swatting North Carolina’s shots way before Anthony Davis was even a twinkle in the Toronto Raptors’ eye. Pratt was a two time All-SEC player for the Wildcats and today he’ll be up against his toughest competitor as he joins Matt Jones on the airwaves to talk Kentucky basketball’s big win on Saturday.

Listen in on 1080 AM in Louisville or 630 AM in Lexington and don’t forget to join in on the fun by calling (502) 571-1080.

Cats.

    Dear Matt,
I am so sick of hearing these Indiana fans who really think that they will beat Kentucky. Did they not see Calipari’s team actually dominate the second half of the Carolina game WITH patience and great half court defense? Kentucky by the minimum 15. In all reality-25.

The criticism that it took a miracle block for Kentucky to beat UNC is assuming that Henson’s shot would’ve gone in…UNC is about as clutch as Chris Webber…Thanks for not fouling, Tar Heels.

After the game, Harrison Barnes said he thought that last year’s UK team was better than this team (he was comparing the elite eight team to current one). He justified it by saying it was at the end of the year and they had been playing together – then added we’ll have to wait and see if this team will improve by the end of the year. Thought that was interesting.

Matt, Carolina shot 42% from the field. I can recall a few missed dunks, and Barnes sat half the game. I would hardly say that was Carolina’s best effort. Maybe from behind the arc but they were terrible in the paint, which is their supposed strength, not so much.

I’ll give them some credit, the Cats looked aight against Carolina. But 50% of their points came in the paint. They might be able to do that against teams like Penn St and North Carolina, but where is the scoring going to come from against teams they can’t just pound it down low against.

  28. UKGRAD
    10:28 am December 5, 2011 Permalink

22 – There strength is also our strength. Our front court did a good job of limiting their front court’s strength. And you can’t say they were terrible in the paint…. Henson was abusing us in the first half.

Yall need to get off of Marquis Teague’s back. He is a better outside shooter than KG. Matt you dont have any faith. Teague has sooo much better handles than Knight. And Wall couldnt shoot worth anything when he first started. Teague is much better finding people open and that will come even more evident the more experience he gets. And Matt, Harrison Barnes still played pretty dang good, where do you get that he was “shut down.” SMH

My only problem with Teague is that I don’t trust him at the line, if we are in a situation where we know a foul is coming I would rather see the ball in Miller or Lambs hand. I know Saturday there was still enough time on the clock that we had to run a play and Teague saw a lane to the basket he had to take, but I had zero confidence in him knocking them down when he got to the line.

The whole game Pitino had us presing and Miller kept pulling the ball out of the net and throwing it to the other end of the floor for a Hog dunk. The 96 Hogs team had the left handed point guard kareem reid or something like that. Lamb literally dropped the ball right out of his hands TWICE in the last 8 minutes. Also, he’s your best spot-up shooter. That’s your choice for PG?

Grant definitely grabbed him by the chin. I kinda saw it, but the announcers were making a big deal of it during the game broadcast.

Yep. Anthony Grant did have the guy by the throat, saw it when it happened. However, I didn’t think it was intentional or as bad as it looked. Tried to make the player look him in the eye, player didn’t acknowledge, so he grabbed him by the chin and when the player tried to wiggle away, his hand wound up on his throat. I didn’t see a Bob Knight moment, but Grant should have probably turned him loose much quicker than he did.

Matt, did anyone ever address why they didn’t switch the defensive assignments and have Jones guard Zeller and Davis guard Henson? Zeller was posting Davis so deep it was crazy.

Don’t care about Indiana, let em go. They bring down the RPI if anything. However, in the 90s when we played at the RCA Dome in INDY/Freedom Hall and it was split down the middle blue vs. red…that was cool.

I’m 24…I like the idea of continuing to play IU. I have tons of friends that are big IU fans and it’s always fun to beat them every year. The only way I would consider not wanting to play them is if we could manage to begin a yearly match up with Duke.

I’m 25. I remember when the rivaly was heated and awesome. Since Davis was initially hired…it has just been a long strand of feeling sorry for IU fans. I can’t even harass them anymore because it feels like I’m picking on a 3 year old.

Let this weekend’s game settle it. If IU wins, then they prove they are worthy of a rivalry and we keep them on the schedule. If UK beats IU (again), then IU is still irrelevant and should be dropped.

There are plenty of people in Western Kentucky that still want to beat the Hoosiers every year. Think about it – the people near Louisville hate the Cards because you have to deal with their fans constantly. The people near Evansville have to listen to all the Hoosier fans constantly and hate them as much or more than the Cards.

Indiana now is a lose-lose game. If we win we beat a bad BCS school, and if we lose, we lost to a bad BCS school.

If nothing else, they need to move it back to the neutral-site arrangement of Indy and Louisville alternating. It would allow another home game, and they would sell more tickets in Freedom Hall.

I am 30 yrs old and a life-long Cats fan. I actually voted on CoachCal.com to remove UNC from the schedule and keep Indiana. UNC is a big game because of the rankings of both teams, but there is not a rivalry. Indiana can still be a rivalry game for fans, and it defintely is in the state of IN for fans on both sides of the fence.

Coach Cal said we need an easier schedule in the future to help our young teams we are going to have, and removing UNC fixes that. I like Mike Pratt’s idea of going back to the neutral court game. Those are/were great!

Matt yes I was watching the Alabama game and yes the coach did grab his player by the neck/jaw and it looked kinda hard too…also did you hear in the post game interview with Davis when he was talking about the last play he was saying that UNC is a great team because they have Cody Zeller…hahaha i thought that was hilarious Davis referring to Tyler as his younger brother Cody because I hate Tyler bigger pansy flopper ever!
