In a move that is oddly timed and very overdue, Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton has finally handed in his resignation. UT will announce his departure in a press conference at 11 a.m.
Hamilton’s resignation comes less than one week before Tennessee meets with the NCAA Infractions Committee to learn the fate of its football and basketball programs. Needless to say, Hamilton, responsible for bringing in Lane Kiffin and Bruce Pearl, has not been a popular person in Knoxville lately. I hear he hasn’t gotten an invitation to a backyard barbeque for months.
Just last week, Hamilton attended the SEC meetings in Destin and seemed ready to face the NCAA. Guess UT Chancellor Jimmy Cheek wasn’t ready for him to do that. Either way, it’s hard to see the NCAA giving Tennessee any mercy for firing their AD a mere four days before they go to Indianapolis.
